Also, how much did it cost lol, that kind of fixture was torn out by the thousands in the early 90s, which is a shame, the originals were built to outlast humanity!
Cory. Let’s go for a pint! I’m a QS and find this kind of work very interesting and if I had the personal time I would retrain as an electrician. I’ve just bought a 1900 terrace which has no electrical work carried out only a consumer box change. Would love someone as passionate as you to carry out the rewire it’s worth the extra money in the long run.
Big fan of explaining your work, you need to keep that up, even if you've done it a thousand times before there are students coming into the trade that won't know you've done those before and won't go searching for them and miss out on good quality technical knowledge, keep up the work... if only other employers that teach teach as much as you guys do to your audience and employees, I think that the world is going to be so much safer in terms of electrics.
I love how all the RU-vid sparkys have banter between each other, but also help each other if needed. Tom Nagy is highly respected by the other RU-vidrs and viewers, he doesn’t seem to want to get drawn into the banter between other channels m, but his content is different, talks about small things that electricians may face everyday but don’t think to talk about. Nick’s channel, Artisan’s and another good one - Green Hawk Construction offer good tips for learners, and once these smaller channels get bigger, they’ll end up being the start of banter I’m sure!
Indeed.... i really hope tom isn't thinking people hate on him... he works in London, which is a lot different to most yt sparks... so what works for them, doesn't work for others...
I think all the channels are great, all have their own ways of doing things and their banter between each other is great. It’s nice to see different perspectives from different people, it helps everyone’s knowledge grow together.
So a terraced or a £350 k semi detached house with a driveway and a looped supply a Home charger no chance ,so a granny charger on a lead in a waterproof freezer box it is then for about 60% of UK properties with off street parking
Possibly one of the best videos you guys have done a bit of teaching some reaching out but best of all the giggles. Love it. I hope @Tom Nagy is ok. I guess most of us live in the protected world that everyone on you tube is best buddies and would love that to be the case. Take care all.
Once again you’ve demonstrated your experience and abilities to provide high quality all while being educational and fun at the same time. Oh where’s the link for the portable work bench?
Nice Job. Out of interest, if they were wiring up that garage CU as a new install, what size SWA would you recommend is run to futureproof an EV charger install? I'm guessing that was 4mm
woww okheyy this video has been really successful, I will watch it 3-4 times with great attention especially last parts. Becouse ı m also trying to be an electrician and even my instructors cant epxlain so clear. BİG THANKS
Hello from Germany, in case of a connection between a live and a metal housing, do you really use an MCB in a TT for protection? The German regulations say that the resistance from the earthing rod to the ground is too high to have enough current to trigger the MCB in time. And during my time as an electrician the ZS was always way too high in a TT to use the MCB for that. Do you do better earthing rods on your side of the chanel???
cable tie round the inner bedding to stop it splitting is a good call, i typically use tape, but i'm with you, I leave the bedding on to 'behind the DIN rail, just for appearance sake :) tip for 'needing a different size hole' overlapping with an existing knockout, the bolt up metal hole 'punches' can work where a normal holesaw will cause the original knockout to fall out and ruin your day. Also, keep a stock of conduit size adaptors for when you need to put a 20mm into a 32 ;)
Back in the 16th Edition Regs course, the figure was given as 1 Mohm with a recommendation for 2 Mohm, because the JPEL committee and HSE agreed to disagree. (IET 1 HSE 2). I still feel anything below 2 Mohm indicates damaged insulation.
@@corynoahmac thanks for the reply. Can’t speak for 16th edition as started training under 17th which is 1M ohm but I do agree that it is a very low reading and agree readings that low would indicate problems and not acceptable for continued use 👍
Any idea why Cory moved the Garage Supply from one side of the Fuseboard to the other? It was a split RCD Fuseboard, both sides were protected by a RCD.
He moved it so it was not covered by an RCD, it could be that the RCD in the board is not type A, even if it was its not great if there is an issue with the car charger that it takes out half the house electrics and all garage electrics, at least the way it is now it will only take out the garage electrics, although surprised they didnt put in an RCBO board in the garage.. The supply cable was armoured so does not required RCD 30ma protection.
As to your stripping back the cable too far comment Corey, it's interesting because I always note how clamps and strain relief don't seem to be mandatory in Britain... In Canada/America generally you're Required to have all cables coming into a box of any sort under clamp to provide for strain relief and the outer jacket Must be under the clamp so that the inner cable insulation won't be damaged.
With regard to the cores of the swa chafing. I agree with a little inner sheath being visible, but is it any different than running singles in steel conduit ?
Couldn’t agree more with you Cory in terms of working / meeting up with Tom Nagy brilliant guy. All the RU-vids you mention have helped me so much and really appreciate all your different views and styles of work.
Hi great Video guys as they all all. Quick question as you’ve just thrown me (29 mins in) your discussing earth fault loop and quote maximum disconnection of 0.4 seconds. As the example is a TT system isn’t max disconnection times 0.2s up to 32A and 1s for circuits over 32A? Or am I misunderstanding the regs??
Quick question as I come across this the other day. Internally the garage circuit was run in pvc twin and earth within the building fabric then swa via a wiska box, so I deemed it best to keep that circuit protected via the rcd in the main dB I just wondered weather this was the same situation with the consumer unit looking like it was on an internal wall?

@@corynoahmac oh yeah It was more for apprentices doing the exams that the number is 1, thanks for the reply mate and loving educational side of the vids 🙌
@@GeoB24 It's section 643.3 and specifically table 64. And you're correct the number is 1MΩ, but if I'd just installed two meters of cable and had a reading of anything other than off scale high I'd be wondering why. I don't think 2MΩ is at all unreasonable as a one stage more stringent than the absolute minimum. There are situations in which it can be a lot lower, the IR of solar installations (conductors to earth / the array frame) can be well down in the tens or hundreds of kΩ range depending on array sizes.
@@tceng9449 like I say I know from regs it was 1 and I wouldn’t accept anything more than 999, but as exams ask this question a lot wanted to clear it up for apprentices 👌
Hi as an electrician looking to break into the EV market I want to find a product I can stand behind. This looks like it could be it, do you mind me asking where you source them and stock availability. Also what you sell them for, to consumer not purchase price as I’m sure you don’t want to give that away! Just to give me an idea on costing. Also think a video with broken down pricing that you offer for an install of this type would help us all massively! Anyway thanks for the content really enjoy watching, look forward to your response!! Sam from Bournemouth
Nicely put Cory 😉😊 I can’t watch Nagy anymore, good luck to him but the negativity to sparky’s not following his practices and judging that they’re sub standard and plucked nonsense from the regs to justify just annoyed me. His wall chaser praise was getting a little out of hand (2 episodes🙄😂) CJR, Nick and yourselves go the different way of getting sparkys to up their game😊 Anyway at least your not knifing him in the back (where ever his comment came from ??) I have seen a lot of cable ties in boards which I’m not a fan of so I’m glad you guys aren’t doing it😊 Merry Christmas artisans (and keep your wires straight😊😂)
I’m not sure if Nagy referred specifically to some comments by Cory, but I’d imagine he find the monologue a bit patronising. He’s a decent guy and obviously has a beef about something?
Tool of the day in the video is the folding work bench...tool of the day in the description is a Unilite product....where can I get one of those work benches???
CORRIE IF YOUR NOT ON £80k+ your getting robbed . Can easy make £80k without utube just self employed nowadays. Even labourers on sites are on £20ph trades get £27.50-£32.50 .. Point being u can get a very nice EV CAR FOR THAT
And remember that’s without any extra £ for utube . Crazy £ available ( not even London rates they are even higher) £75-£100 PH for any self employed tradesmen
@@corynoahmac if you are good at your trade u can get these rates easy .. on price works on sites u get £1300-1850 a week easy .. throw in putting a small squad together and u can add more .. look at brickies just now most can make £450-600 a day on price work ( lots of utube brickies that will prove that point
Relax mate, the stench of desperation off you is unreal...calm down from tongue punching the fartbox off the YT Electricians in the hope of some recognition from them. If you genuinely enjoy the content then watch & enjoy, but keep your tongue in your mouth.
@@Cablesmith mate, iv seen enough of your comments on all these channels and all you're trying to do is ride on the coat tails of the more "popular" channels. Melt? Yeah OK... 🔔🔚
Nice. But, my big worry with this is how close it is to the gutter down pipe? In a perfect world the down pipe is perfect, but we know the world isn't perfect. Sooo, down pipe fills with moss, or otter crud. And the rain floods over the EV charger, Charger may be IP 68, but would you be 100% happy? I don't have an answer, but please debate.
Also as a model(&helicopter, electrical transmission line technician😁)I am not a fan of Cory's new haircut,it would never work in the modelling world as it is too limiting, but oh well, looks good on Cory!😁
