Before airline pilots we had maritime pilots (the word comes from ancient greek for "oar"). They're skilled mariners with local expertise who *guide* ships through harbours, river mouths, and other dangerous or congested waters based on their knowledge of depths, currents, and other hazards.

I was thinking of a pilot episode of a series, ie the first one. Other explanations that the smaller hole 'pilots' the bigger one make sense too. Interesting that it is an established technique, i retrained to be an electrician recently (in belgium) and couple week ago i used it without having been taught or explained:) Seemed like a prudent thing to do, instead of jamming the big one through right away. Didn't know about the angled drilling, that was nice to see. Hope there's plenty more Reuben teaching moments that we can all benefit from!

I believe the use of pilot is from the person who steers the small boat that guides larger ships into, and out of, ports. This person is called a pilot, and I assume the use of that term for initial drill holes was that they are used to guide the larger drill bits.

Interesting video as always Jordan. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 You really are making great strides with the renewables and prosumer side of things. One tip, ideally you should address that damaged base because in a harsh winter that damaged plinth will fail under freeze and thaw elements ( has happened to me twice) potentially leaving you with a hanging live charge point. Better to do it now before you get it up and running as it maybe a pig later having to put the charge point out of use imo. Keep up the good work.

@Mr1997stefan

I'm not an electrician, just curious as to why not L1 as surely the three phase is over all phases, so the single phase wouldn't be suitable over all phases?
@azzurrielectrical2317
@azzurrielectrical2317 2 года назад
@@Mr1997stefan When fitting a number of Zappi EV charger on three phase supply you have to make sure that if a number of car with only single phase charger hook up to them they don't all pull the power from only L1. So if you install two 3 phase chargers and one single phase charger, you would fit the 3 phase chargers, the first one L1, L2, L3 the second one L2, L3, L1 and the single phase charger on L3, thus if three cars hook up the load is shared across all three phases. Hope this helps.

Just borrow some cable jack's from one of your suppliers, if you spend enough there and on good terms they will lend then to you, that's all I ever do. Just from a quick glimpse of that place, it's your typical commercial installation, cables been lashed in over the years, one cable gets fixed, then everything gets hung from it, the grouping factor goes out the window in those places.

Re clipping cables not being skilled, any spark that has worked in shipyards would disagree. When I was in my first year in the training centre, as an apprentice spark, in H&W shipyard in Belfast, there was a lot of effort put into teaching us how to work out cable runs so that the job looked neat, as almost all cabling was on the surface. This meant we had to think about which cables would be going the furthest, so they would be on the bottom, we had to ensure the cable would be on the correct side of the run for dropping off at branches, etc. Bear in mind, we used single core cable for lighting & power (220V) circuits, so there could be a lot of cables in a given run, depending on where it was. We also had to learn to use a stud welding gun, as these were used to attach the clips for the cable (which we also learned how to make). No cable band or slotted tray for us!
