On the floor of the Ex-Robots factory in China's northeastern coastal city of Dalian, engineers develop humanoid robots with a focus on representing enhanced facial expressions and emotions. The company said it takes from two weeks to a month to produce one, with prices up to 2 million yuan (US$280,000). Most of the company's robots so far are for display in museums, but Ex-Robots aims to integrate them into every industry.

I know it's humanity's fascination to make humanoid robots but I don't see the point of making them to help us do our jobs. Would you design a robot to drive a truck or would you simply just make a truck that can operate by itselt ?

Both ideas are a solution in search of a problem. I find these robots creepy, but they may find use in the medical field and caring for the elderly.

Obviously when doing jobs purpose-built machine are better than humanoid machine. But its the research done in the pursuit of making them that is useful and can be applied in other areas. Its kinda like space. Most of the benefit that we got from going to space is from the research done in order to get there. For example in this case in order to simulate face muscle they keep getting smaller and smaller motor. A lot of the research would also be pretty useful when transferred to bionics prosthetics too.

A humanoid machine could, in theory, drive any car, truck, bus, boat, plane, or any other vehicle... forklifts, dock loaders, cranes, and even LMV's, tanks, migs, apache attack helicopters... And if it can pilot these, it can also exit, disembark, or parachute from... And then proceed to ground assault... And from a distance, you might think you're dealing with a human target. Massively underestimating their ability, strength, lack of pain response, etc... until it's too late and they are upon you. So why is China building these things again???

so unevolved. they are slowing it on purpose. just look at those hollywood bodies... no one said "they have to look metallic, like the films". doesn't make sense at all. so silly movements, when its easy to program an analogue movement and copy it from humans. i think these factories are just working for the cameras, and not to really show how real a robot could look today
