How cool is this?? Love seeing all these amazing creators under one roof. I did this many years ago with some close friends of mine trying to create our own characters and books. I can't tell you how much I loved the creative vibe we would all get from each other as we stayed up til 3 or or 4 in the morning drawing, talking comics and listening to music. I miss those days dearly, so I thank you for sharing this with us!
As an artist This was super lovely to see! Just a bunch of creative people with passion for comic making together in one place working on their projects, love to see it!
You know what the absolute best part of this is? The fact that you have people doing high-profile, mainstream stuff right next alongside people doing creator-owned, indie stuff.
Being able to work with people with the same profession, the same minds and same vibes are just one of my dreams! I wanna be a manga/comic creator someday and you guys ignited my fire a lot more for art!
Wow, it’s awesome to see so many talented people in such a comfy, laid back environment! It’s also super cool to see Vana in the wild, I’ve been really impressed with his stuff so far. ❤
I wish I had a studio like that :c too bad I live in a different country and have no money. Very cool and very warm video. I did not expect to see so many great artists there! I am reading Once Upon a TIme and I love stuff Steve Lieber produces! This is honestly insane
This video surprised me. I mean, you have a whole staff of different artists gathered in one place, but everyone draws something different. Including personal work. I always thought that people only go to the offices for one common project and... it's cool, to be honest, to be in a circle of people like you, but to be able to live your own project!
Before COVID hit, I was a freelance designer/developer, so, I was used to working alone or remotely, then after COVID hit, my work slowed down and I had to get a job. After joining an ad agency, I went to the office for like 3 months then it was announced that we could now work from home or remotely, so, I basically went back to how my life used to be before COVID, only now I have a boss.

Oh to be that young again, with that kind of energy and drive. Takes me back to the days in the early 90’s when I was a colorist with a comic book publishing company. We were all in over 20’s and staying up to all hours trying to make our deadlines fueled on high octane spanish coffee!
look at those huge desk and T-squares. Reminds me of the days at SVA. Tens years after graduation, Some of my classmates don't get to do comic or art full-time. Neither do I, after failing to get my work VISA, I went into graphic design for years, doing mediocre work, absolutely miserable, and now I am hanging on the outskirt of illustration, trying so hard to get in full-time again.
well ok maybe not so miserable... I was also in grad school learning communications design theory, pure theory and no skills, which didn't help me land any jobs in the first few crucial years but it started to pay off at the age of 31.
Lol we do this in Japan with my friends, we have our own different series, instead of competing for the monthly rankings we encourage each other. This is so wholesome, i miss my friends.
This looks so cool! This would be my dream comics work. How I imagined it to be when I was a kid wanting to be comic artist.... Unfortunately its usually nothing like that. These guys are really lucky to have found this place :)
Ugh! I miss this type of environment, harken back to my days at the Kubert school. Lol, I miss drawing comics too but I'll watch you guys until I can get there again
@@Captain_MonsterFart Technically, I've done some pin-up work but went into a different direction. However, I've used other skills like storyboarding and just sequential/narrative art an animation too. I'm still planning on doing self-publish work someday. With all that said the friendships and the experience can't be beat.
Thanks for asking! Back in 2002 when we formed the studio, several of us spent a few weeks going through real estate listings and walking through office buildings with "for rent" signs. As for how we afford it, we have several dozen members, many of whom have been working full-time in comics for decades. When you split the rent between 30+ people, the monthly expense isn't too bad.
@@SteveLieber this is so weird meeting someone online you only knew as a name on the cover. Hi Steve! Your work on Superior Foes and Civil War Frontline was great!! ^^
@@looniemoonie5955 Thanks! Being part of this studio was a huge help on both of those books. When you need a model to take a pose to sketch from, it's great having other cartoonists around who know how to exaggerate their gestures.
How can I join this group of talent? I believe I’m very talented and am a self taught artist out of poverty. I’ve worked on my art since I was 9 yrs old and have struggled through hardships but my art has gotten me through it. Art is the only thing that ever took me out of my reality and made life a bit more worth living. How can I get in touch with this group?
Is this work place for multi artist create a different comics? Which mean if I make my own comic at the same I can see other artists progress in their own storytelling? I'm so confused...
It’s a co-working space! Right now we’re not looking for any more members, and we typically only accept already vetted friends, or friend of a friend thing.
Drawing is like breathing for me, I'm by no means a fantastic artist (although I am getting better through practice), and as great as these talented guys are and heaps of fun too, I wouldn't want to work in this "open plan" type way of working, I'd be much happier working in my own enclosed space/office and would struggle to concentrate or produce work of any worth in this way, but no disrespect to these brilliant artists, I guess some artists flourish with others around them, whereas some of us prefer the peace & quiet and solitude, it's just personal preference.
We hear ya. Oftentimes our members stay home if they get too distracted and have to purely focus on work. Most days there are less people in the studio than this, but can still be a distraction.
@Helioscope PDX Thanks for that, I was going to delete my comment as I didn't want to offend anyone, but i got distracted as I'm working on a complicated drawing of a dragon's face, and the amount of detail is insane....so I never had a chance to delete it. Everyone has their own way of working. Thankyou so much for your reply, as I've already said, you guys are awesome and are so talented, I wish you all great health and may you all prosper in life and as artists. You guys ROCK!!
