It is so easy to become completely disillusioned with the world, yet someone with a heart overflowing with generosity of spirit returned this painting. I believe to my depth of my soul, Mercy is given back ten fold to those who show it. Whoever got this painting back for the dear family, will be blessed, when he/she cries for it most. I have seen it happen in my lifetime. The power of mercy is never ending. Always give show and be part of mercy!
More Julie please! She is just incredible and her love and enthusiasm for historical homes is infectious! When the home owner and Julie teared up when talking about how they got the home back, i teared up too! 🥹 what an amazing story, very rare!
I am so escited to have discovered Julie and her love for these historic mansions! I loved this one about Pitchford Hall and the family's story about reclaiming their ancestral home. I particularly enjoyed seeing her son going on the tour with them. He was entertaining and respectful - a lovely family. I'm glad they were able to buy the house back and I wish them well in restoring it, especially in finding resources to help in that quest. I am Native American, but I've loved reading about the royals and British aristocracy since Princess Diana came on the scene. There are no records of my ancestry older than the establishment of the reservations in the mid 1800's, so I am a little envious of Europeans and their centuries old records. Great story and thank you for offering these videos.
Yes! Very well put! It's very nice and comforting having an American in the British Aristocracy. She's able to put everything into terms that we can understand a lot easier lol!
This has to be my favorite episode. It was great to be part of the families excitement, wonder and love for regaining her families ancestral home. All the emotion just leap from the screen. Great job
Yes! He's adorable and I love how his Mother encourages him to love the Old House/palace. It's so important to save these Homes, im American and I can appreciate the history of our Mother Country. I love seeing where we came from. He is an adorable little boy, ND he should be proud of himself he loves his Heritage, Props to Mommy3❤❤❤
@@sabrinapineda6824 I agree!! I'm American, too. I love our history and how many of our stories (mine included) go back to Britain. That's one of the many reasons I enjoy shows like Julie's that showcase both the British and American ties to their family's history 😊😊
So very delighted to find you, Julie, and this incredible programming. I almost hesitate to write this as others will think I'm making it up. As a small child, I didn't have a 'play house', I built myself a 'mansion' in the trees. As a young woman my exploration took me to every book about the aristocracy, the way of life (which was very familiar), and their holdings. Living three years in Europe and Great Britain.I visited every stately home and property I could find. It simply never grew old. In the past, when the aristocracy began to lose their estates because of high taxes, I cried many many times. Living in London, Hampton Court Palace became a recurring event in my life. Simply taking in the hammer beam ceiling on every visit was a great source of joy, as was getting lost in the maze. I'm an old woman now. My love and interest has never wavered. Did I live this life in past lifetimes? Whatever the reason, you have come into my life with this incredible production. I wanted to thank you. Each episode is an indepth study and absolutely fascinating. I walk there beside you. It warms my heart. Thank you, Julie.
Well, you certainly make a case for past lives! Honestly, sometimes that is the only explanation that fits. I'm an Anglophile, always have been (I'm old, too 😮) I can't watch the film of the destruction of estate homes in England after WWI, literally have to turn my head. But you are VERY emotionally involved here. Maybe someday you'll have a past life regression that will explain your attachment to these glorious structures.
Yes, yes, yes, I agree, pretty please more Julie. I was tearing up and overjoyed with seeing how remarkable people can be and giving back items most especially, the painting. Thank you so much for sharing this journey. ❤
As a pitchford descendant in the states it makes my heart happy to know that one day I might be able to visit this home. My great grandma was the last of our family that carried the pitchford name. And her family settled in field store Tx just outside of Houston. ❤
So wonderful to watch two genuine and articulate storytellers engage and share everything that’s happened to this beautiful house. Including the painful history of losing everything, which happened to my family in the 1920s, when they were forced out of their ancestral home.
Just want to say how much I enjoy your videos! I’m restoring a Victorian home with my Mother in upstate NY and your videos give me so much inspiration. Thanks for doing what you do!
Oh my gosh Julie’s back!!❤ I absolutely love American Viscountess and Real Royalty teaming up together. I wish I could sit down and have tea with Julie, I have just so many questions I wish I could ask her! This was a real treat to watch, thank you! Dare I ask is there another show/program due to be released with Julie in it?
Such a lovely family Rowena and James are. What a wonderful story of how they have regained this beautiful home. and restoring it. I love Julies enthusiasm she is so friendly , This was so nice to watch . The tree house was stunning!!! Thankyou Julie for sharing with us this amazing stately home.
What a wonderful story! So happy the generous gentleman in Houston TX provided the funding for the treasured painting. 🤗 I’m appalled the family did NOT take items of historical nature prior to selling to an individual. Good Luck on recovering the lost items!
As an American daughter of a British war bride I am a devoted watcher of British restorations/renovations. Last evening I watched a special presented by Time Team and English Heritage about Dover Castle and the work done there. The gorgeous library here at Pitchford Hall was very similar to the designs and colors they used in King Henry's Great Hall, Bedchamber and other rooms. The way the colors were explained and used was brilliant! I loved how you seamlessly met with the family and interacted with them; you seemed to be natural and to be having a great deal of fun! Thank you for taking us touring and exploring, not to mention visiting Pitchford Hall. It's magnificent!
Julia Montague' s passion is fantastic. Her American perspective on ancient British houses adds an extra level of interest as a viewer. Her enthusiasm is also a great additive.
I can't believe that I'm the only person who finds it truly disturbing how obviously infantilized the boy is. Please buy him a real dog. At his age carrying around a stuffed animal is oddly strange.
@@RoseMary-vs3io absolutely not,I had a precious little step daughter who I loved and adored, she lived with her mother and me and my partner had her at the weekends, she loved her cuddly toys and very often carried one or another about with her under her arms until she was about twelve, she’s now 26yrs old, she’s an extremely mature level headed young lady, she’s kind thoughtful and very empathetic towards other people, therefore I would say it’s you who doesn’t know what you’re talking about
@@bk1986 it’s anything but oddly strange,my precious and adored stepdaughter carried her stuffed toys under her arms until she was twelve, she’s now 26yrs old and she’s now a wonderful mature level headed, kind, caring and empathetic young lady who any mother or stepmother would be extremely proud of,who knows if she wasn’t allowed to carry her soft toys if she would’ve turned out to be such a wonderful young lady,
Such a beautiful and remarkable home, family and story. I am truly chearing for them. I hope to see this lovely old girl again further down the track, and see all the work they have done to lovingly restore her. Great episode, it's true, you can absolutely feel the joy eminating from that home. I can feel it all the way in Australia 😊❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! How fabulous Julie Montague is! I follow her channel and find her so fun and interesting. As an historian, I am enthralled in the history of Pitchford. As a Texan who lives not far from Houston, I'm very proud that Texas has a little part to play in that the painting was purchased by a fellow Texan so that it might hang in the house once more. I'm curious if fossils have ever been found in or near the where the pitch is. We have tar pits in the US in which many dinosaur bones are located. It would be so fascinating to find out. Thank you for this video. It was marvelous!
What a thrilling place to grow up!!! Those dark wood floors in the first living room stole my heart!! The children will grow into very cultured adults with rich imaginations because of this place - the stories before, and then the reality of living there. I love the Viscountess' enthusiasm, too - it's contagious! Of important note, however, is that - and forgive me if I'm wrong - wooden floor boards do not flap in the wind!!! Is that a ghost captured by the cameraman at 17:25 ???
I had to go back and watch it again, because I hadn't noticed the flapping board. I did see it the 2nd time through, which was very exciting! Thank you for pointing that out @HawkqOjOp.
It’s a very stunning house but there are others that can hold their own; Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire, Plas Mawr in Conwy and if you want an original Tudor castle, try Tattershall in Lincolnshire, (which is built with some of the oldest bricks of the country). What l have come away with is the resilience of the soul and the kindness of strangers - bringing this place back to life is a lovely, lovely story.
Thank you for showing this beautiful home! I doubt I will ever be able to come in person to see but you give me the opportunity from home and I am so thankful that you do!!! Keep making videos - they warm my soul.
Absolutely loved this episode. It must have been heartbreaking to watch your your possessions being sold off. I just can't imagine. I teared up watching that beautiful painting being hung in its rightful place. Seeing Rowena in her delightful swimsuit gave me a giggle. And that gorgeous library. I would easily spend hours in there. It must be an absolute joy living in that house. More of these episodes please. Warm greetings from Australia.
Thank goodness for people like this in this world. I love visiting historic homes like these. But restoration and upkeep would absolutely be beyond me. I only wish I had this passion and work ethic.
Thanks Julie, one of your more interesting films...loved it all especially the hands on restoration! Just think hands over 500 years ago were plastering the panel you just did...WOW!
American Viscountess, Dear Super Julie, never stop making these videos!! I learn so much about all this beautiful houses and their history. The proud families telling us their old stories, problems and joys of living in such an amazing houses. You put so much enthusiasm and interest in it, it´s contagious!!
What a lovely place, it’s beautiful. I love the Tudor period. Julia is so lovely. Am really glad the family were able to get it back. A rescue story ❤ edited to add…..such a worthy, hard working, pleasant family.
I make mosaics using stone, Venetian glass, all cut with hammer and Harris and set in mortar, the exact same way mosaics were done millennia ago. I would love to work on the walls with the hair and lime and trowel. How wonderful that people still learn and use these hundreds of years old techniques and materials! I am thrilled to see this!
What an amazing story, so happy they have it back and their children seem most interested in the history of home and country, brilliant...and that library is stunning...thank you for the tour...!
Dear Julie, great video, the oldest tree house in the world with Queen VIctoria as a visitor. Goodluck with all your projects and Happy New Year. B.~~~~~♧~~~~~
What a fabulous episode! Loved each piece of it. But the water episode at the end was my favorite! Thank you to everyone for this peek into the-distant past-meets-the-present.
It’s very nice to see that families keep to their ancestral homes. It’s inspiring and shows their respect to their ancestors. Whether it’s a manor or just an ordinary home. At 56:59 there is a face on the tree towards the right…
I love this special home in the British countryside. I’m so glad this one was saved!! I would love to have spent whatever I could have to bring it back into the family. It became an Egyptian stud farm. Heaven on earth!!!
i was glued to my screen , all sorts of emotions were present at this episode. lady of the house is lovely and really shoesd her love for her family house. the host julie was destined to do this! about the ghosts im not so sure iud e this cool about ir lol
Oh my goodness, I am so happy to have found another Julie Montagu video since I stumbled across one a day ago. What an utter delight these two ladies are and how brave of the Colthursts to re-acquire and restore Pitchford Hall. I'm afraid I would have simply stood there and gaped at the fallen ceilings wondering what the heck I should do about it. The room Rowena Colthurst painted bright red at age 13 made me laugh. I can completely picture a 13-year-old girl determined to make the room her own and different from everything and everybody else's space. I was rather sad to see that not much seemed to have been done to the house in the interim ownership and wondered why that was. What an idyllic place to live. Congratulations to the Colthurst family and all good wishes to you as you restore your diamond in the rough.
Wow this is amazing, they're keeping everything original . Right down to the Mortar. I would volunteer work and learn . That has always been my dream since a little girl. ❤❤❤
These presentations are very interesting indeed. One minor detail regarding the audio component: in between videotaped sections, there are quite a few 'background' narrations, and we are strikingly reminded that these snippets have been recorded separately because we can hear a bit of echo in the recording venue; moreover, the microphone must be of a different type, because Julie's voice almost sounds like that of a different person. If the echo could be suppressed acoustically during those narrations, and if the voice tone characteristics were more similar to what we hear during the video parts, the entire production would seem to flow seamlessly; this would enhance the quality of your productions, which are already excellent.
I love this episode I can tell that the energy of this house is really magical because even the video has an enchanting feel to it. Maybe it’s the ghosts’ energies
Oh and I think this is my favorite video on this channel the history the the family were absolutely wonerful .. Do you think you could ever do a video with updates on any restoration. That's you have made videos on?
Just no words! 25 yrs to get their heritage back. I could simply cry at the pain of seeing their heritage sold off by Christie’s. There are simply things in life you can’t possibly believe the heart can bear. Complete total admiration for these people. I know their heritage is long gone under the hammer, but their dirt, their land their history they won back! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have not seen anything that touched my heart like this. The English are not known for their taste in paint, however 😅
Fantastic video!! I have learned so much!!! The plunge pool looks wonderful!!! I am from Texas and Oklahoma….. even my American experiences are a little different from your Midwest ( near the Great Lakes ) experiences! Fun!!😊
Wow, that was so good. Btw, how did your pants stay white 😮😝. They are the sweetest family and I am so happy for them that they were able to acquire the home back. Never give up, right? And thank you Mr.Texan, for your kind and generous donation 😍
I absolutely loved this video!! Thank you for sharing this!! And it feels like to me. You have made life long friends with this family❤.I have been watching you since the ladies of London day!! I'm not a stalker so don't worry😂 its just that your personality is so infectious. I'm in a wheelchair now and have been for the last 10 years. So I have depression and to watch you videos.. On both channels. Well it make me laugh, and smile, and sometimes cry! So thank you my dear for sharing your life doing that for me! Also not sure if you have a room that is handicap accessible. But I have put maperton on my bucket list! Hopefully someday I will make it over to England😀
This place is fantastic! I hope it works out for them to have guests come & stay to help fund the restorations & upkeep. It's so sad but the taxes & cost of upkeep it what causes these places to be abandoned, it's jam packed with history. Wouldn't it be something if this program were seen & people would gift back some of their ancestors paintings & belongings? It's the paintings I would most treasure since they were the photographs of their day. Thanks for such a fun visit, you sure are one to enjoy every moment like the hidden plunge pool!
Uno de los episodios que más me ha gustado, creo que se pudiera llevar al género cinematográfico todo lo que ellos saben y cuentan porque me parece que un mundo maravilloso rodea a los personajes, gracias lo he disfrutado mucho Saludos
I didn't really understand exactly how her ancestral home got suddenly sold out from under them, including it's contents? It is so sad, but I am very happy that she and her husband persevered and were able to get it back into the family.
