I know I wasn't supposed to tell, but it was arranged for Dwight to visit my dying mom in a nursing home in Austin, Tx in the early 1990s. I wasn't there, but I was given a picture by my brother of them together, and I proudly have it all these years later. She was so thrilled. She passed away shortly after his visit. What a wonderful man.
@@DJK-cq2uy I don't care if you believe me or not. I have photos of my mom and Dwight together in her nursing home room. with family present, so you're a thousand miles from nowhere buddy!
That is amazing, wow! I love Dwight so much I’ve seen him live five times, the most recent a couple weeks ago in Sugarland TX. He is such an amazing and true artist. One of a kind. And evidently a very amazing person, how awesome of him to visit your mom like that, that is absolutely lovely!
I got to meet Dwight around 3 years ago at a concert. My husband surprised me with a meet and greet experience for my birthday. He didn’t tell me until we got to the venue and I was so nervous! I’ve been a fan since I was around 9. When we went back to see him, my husband told him it was my birthday and he was so sweet! He hugged me and signed my T-shirt. Which isn’t something they tell you isn’t “allowed” during the meet and greet. But he did it because it was my birthday. He also told me I smelled really good and I said “it’s Shalimar.” (Which made me feel like a complete moron because by that time I was ready to melt into the floor) and he was holding my hand and he put it to his heart and said “Oh my! Like Lauren Bacall.” I said “yes! Exactly.” His eyes are so blue and he is tall. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times and his shows are just as good now as the first time I saw him when I was 13. He’s a darling and I will always love him. ❤
That’s awesome!! He’s the best! I’ve seen him live five times now, most recently a couple weeks ago in Sugarland TX! He’s one of my all time favorite artists ever!! Puts on great shows!
I met him years ago, and I was surprised that he's tall. I'm a tall female, and it seems that whenever I've met my male musical heroes, they've turned out to be relatively short. Waylon Jennings was also tall. Great country outlaws, both of them.
Yea, The Bakersfield sound had been pretty much over since Don rich Died in July 1974. Having Dwight come around when he did absolutely was a benefit not only to the Bakersfield sound and its continuation but it pulled Buck out of a deep depression he had been in since Don was killed. Way to go Dwight!
I’ve always loved the sound of Dwight’s voice before I ever saw him in person seeing him finally in a video!! Yes, I thought he was sexy looking, however, when I finally saw him in person he was past that stage in his. No more tight jeans but slacks, shirt and jacket!! The voice was the same and that was what I liked to begin with!! I like the sound of his honky Tonk voice.
I’ve seen him twice in the last five years and I think he’s phenomenal!!! I’m 35 I’ve been listening to him since 1992. Sizable part of my life. He’s traditional country music with elements of classic rock and I love it!!!!!!!
Forever, greatful that my dad would put his CD's on in the car. As a kid I didn't quite get it and even at times Dreaded the name Dwight Yoakam coming on, but as I grew up and truly sat down and listened, it felt like the sweetest little memory that kept on giving. His music helped me dance through a rough stretch of a year in life, and I'm forever grateful to this true Artist. Dwight is a cemented favorite of mine now, can't imagine a better artist for long drives through country side. May his musical legacy outlive all this beer and parties crap. Much love
All sexy pants and slunk down hat aside, what's most special about Dwight is his voice. That nasal twang is so unique, something that can't be duplicated by anyone, as opposed to standard country, in which all the guy singers sound the same. His voice really attracts the mind to the story in the song . My favorite album, which never gets mentioned, is the all acoustic one,, which is just his awesome voice and an acoustic guitar. His "Two Doors Down" leaves you sunk in the funky sadness of a man dying from a broken heart. To me, it's the number one song in the album . I love Dwight .
If you look in my old van that still plays cds, you'll find Megadeth, Alice In Chains, Motörhead, Soundgarden, etc. I'm kind of known as the old metalhead in the neighborhood. But, imagine my neighbors surprises when I pull out ALL of Dwight Yoakam cds. See, they're meant to be played LOUD!
Woah, what a great story I just watched on Dwight Yoakum. I play bass in a country cover band, alot of the 90's stuff. We get a great response when we do any of Dwights stuff. And I love covering those great bass lines. As bands' do, that bands' gigs have slowed now. I used to go visit my 92 yr old dad at his apt in Lockhart and we'd sit out on his back porch, I'd play old spanish music, Tejano music and Dwight Yoakum and Buck Owens tunes on my BT speaker all nite. He loved that music. My poor dad passed this year just before his 93rd bday. So I caint go and visit him anymore. So this THanksgiving, I'm gonna sit on out on my back patio, blast Dwight Yoakum songs, old spanish standards, drink a buncha Dos XX beers and think of my daddy and that time we spent listening to that music togeither. RIP Dad! Miss you a shit-loads. peace, e. jr.
I’m not a country fan, but this guy’s music got me through some tough times back in the 90’s. It was like therapy for the soul. I still keep one CD in my car til this day & listen to it several times a week. It never gets old because it’s Dwight Yoakam, you know👌
Really interesting to get to know the full story. Guitars and Cadillacs helped get me through a rough time in the 80's. Wishing Dwight all the best in all things.
Amen brother. I was in a laundromat in KC, Missouri--leaving home for a job from Cali, and first listened to Guitars.....he kept me going then too. On some lonely trips, a Thousand Miles from Nowhere has been my song...but really all his songs are just a pleasure.
It's because hes an entertainer as much as he is a singer . You have singers like James Taylor that Are almost strictly Singers then you have people like Dwight that are Singers and entertainers kind of like Elvis Presley . People that know how to captivate an audience and hold their attention And if they're really good that will translate to film instead of just music
He was absolutely perfect in that role. He’s such a down to earth guy. So soft spoken. It’s a little spooky to think that Doyle Hargrove is lurking around inside that brilliant mind of his. I’ll admit that it took me a while to get him musically. Once I go it, I became a lifelong fan. I’ve never heard of “cow punk”. I’m definitely going to check into it.
I friend of mine played Dwight's first album for me back in 86/87 and I was wowed. The album was really country and energetic and very well done. I thought this guy has really captured something special. I am glad things turned out for him and we get to hear more of his music.
Saw Dwight walking toward Starbucks in Brentwood CA on August 16, 2022. I just saw him from behind and I Said “Dwight!” And he spun around and I shook his hand and met him. Star-struck much?
I met him at a meet and greet in Upper Michigan after his concert...I was so infatuated with him that it was unbelievable and he put his arm around me for a picture ( he was wearing really tight pants and a jean jacket and he looked SO great...I told him.."I JUST LOVE you!!" He said, "Thank you sweety"
He was the only celeb that I ever wanted to see up close and he looked SO damn good...he topped it off by saying "Thank you sweety" to me when I told him how much I loved him and his music...I thought I was going to fall over...lol
@Sue Irving He was wearing really tight pants? No way! That's not the Dwight Yoakum I know.. Lol.. I'm just messing with you. Glad that you got to meet him
@@roxannemoser I never went ever went nuts over a star before him and meeting him I had all these things that I wanted to say but my mouth wouldn't move..haha!@
I was so glad when Dwight came on the scene. Traditional country was dying, and he brought it back. And to be an incredible actor on top of it all is icing on the cake.
I knew who Dwight Yoakam was for many years. I admired the role he did in Sling Blade. I just never really got into his music that much. I’m not a real big country fan - I’m more of a 70s rocker. But, for some reason I started playing Dwight Yoakam about a year ago and have listened to him so much that I’ve got most the words memorized to a LOT of his songs. I just really enjoy his sound - albeit 10 or 20 years later. I just love his music! (I also listen to his SXM channel a lot!)
I am 78 know and when my daughter was sixteen I drove her to a concert, we both had fun, she had books that she put together with all his pictures, she wanted a jacket like his, so she called the guy in CA and I got it for her birthday, it was 300.dollars . She loved it but never wore it, it still is in her closet, He had bought a lot of happiness to her life.
This man STILL has the hottest legs in Country Music! Not just hot, but when was Dwight ever splattered across tabloids for drug or alcohol abuse? Never happened.
Jeff If you ever get the chance to see him live go for it I've seen him 8 times and did 4 of his meet and greets. His live shows are awesome worth every dime
Saw him in March of this year (2022) in Owensboro, Kentucky. I'm from Los Angeles but, was staying in Las Vegas when I found out he'd be performing in Kentucky, his home state. I'd recently heard about Toby Keith's health issues and Alan Jackson's as well. And I had just missed seeing Garth Brooks and Ms. Dolly Parton at the CMA's at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas due to Covid so, I thought what the hell, you only live once. I got front row tickets and it was worth every penny. Checked that one off of my bucket list! I always like to see artists perform in their home states or hometowns if I can. They seem to perform differently than they do at other venues. (IMHO)
I went to his concert in Calgary and he dropped in to A Honky-tonk in Calgary and I got to see him close up and danced to his music. I loved him then and I'm still playing his music.
Back in the 90s I was working on a patio home development here in Louisville, Kentucky and an older gentleman came into our model unit and was interested in possibly purchasing one and introduced himself as Mr. Yoakam and after talking for a while I discovered he was Dwight’s dad. He did purchase a unit and for the next few years until the project was finished I got to know him a little bit and he was a fine feller. Very proud of his son.
Well I love him! He’s a good singer and actor I wish he was played more on the radio and see him more on TV. Come on Dwight let’s hear from you again! Love you always, Connie from S.C. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can't remember all the concerts I've seen Dwight. Never once did I see, hear a poor performance. Stunning show, music, and seeing ladies rush down for a close view of his jeans.
First singer I’ve ever thought was fantastic. I just loved his singing and I don’t usually care about such things. Saw him in concert here in Toronto, what a great show, my whole family loved him, still do.
In the 80's I was Dating a Guy that was a Spittin image of Dwight All except for He had Strawberry Blonde/Redish Hair. That was Before Dwight became Famous. BUT seeing Dwight, I'll Never Forget Stan!😊👍❤💯
Just watched Dwight sing “In The Garden” at Buck Owen’s funeral service. In that video, Dwight referred to Buck as a very dear friend. I always Buck was Dwight’s real father, even looking and sounding just like him.
My 1st husband who owned a West Hollywood music store (where Dwight bought his strings), played pedal steel guitar and sax with Dwight at The Coral in Pacoima, CA. It was about a legit honky tonk bar where people could ride their horses to. One night Dusty Springfield was there and sat in ...I had the nerve to sit in for my a song the same night. Another time he sat in my Datsun 200sx and played a cassette to sell the idea of contributing to what became his 1984 EP...that ultimately was the ticket to his success. Sadly, I didn't get involved and watched him catapult his career. Memories that are ever lasting.
This interesting . . . I loved punk/alternative music in the late 1970's thru 1980's . . . and then lived in Texas where country music was all-around. Liked Merle, Hank, Waylon, GeorgeStrait and a lot of the bare-bones singer-songwriters . . . So when I first heard Dwight -- dang!
I always liked him since he didn't fit in with Nashville and he went on his own way to success. I don't fit in myself so I have been a loner myself too.
Of COURSE, Baby, but he was playing a REALLY nasty guy and we weren't SUPPOSED to feel sorry for him. He played the part quite well though, didn't he? I LOVED his accent in that movie! I reckon THAT part came naturally for him
I HATED 80's "country" music. The "Vegas style" country had zero appeal and pretty much drove me away from country but Dwight brought me back. He's Still one of my favorites.
I've always loved dewwhite my favorite ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love you dewwhite all my life I've seen him in contact yrs ago now ❤️❤️❤️♥️♥️my favorite ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ county Girl Baby Girl 🇺🇲
Esse cara é fantástico. Me chamou a atenção. Não o sabia em décadas anteriores e pareceu a mim ter sofrido uma velhice precoce e somente após foi apresentado ao mundo assim. Hj vcs falam nele e fazem biquinho!!

Country Music was playing some duds as far as true Country. Dwight Yoakum saved Country Music. Sadly today's Era has carried on traditional C& W Music. 😊
He's from around my peoples!!" I was born in Portsmouth Ohio and right across the bridge is South Portsmouth Kentucky!!!" And then right up the road is West By God Virginia!!"
