A few years ago I finally acquired my grail watch. But this was no ordinary grail...this watch was 140 years in the making. In this video I delve deep into the story behind one of the most important chronograph watches ever made, and a favorite of iconic actor Steve McQueen-the Hanhart 417 ES. I travel to Germany for a behind-the-scenes look at where this classic watch was created, and share the story of one of the country's greatest watch brands and how they created one of the most influential military chronographs of all time. Join me for an exclusive tour of the Hanhart watch factory in Germany's beautiful Black Forest region, where I chat with the Hanhart team about their watchmaking process, the brand's history, the creation of their museum, the evolution of their timepieces, and why they have such an exciting and promising future ahead of them.

This is the peak of horology content. A blissful half hour that's part-How It's Made, and part museum tour. This has honestly made my week. I'll admit, Hanhart weren't always a house I kept an eye on and I had no clue about their history, but this was incredible. Seeing their history and heritage, their truly in house production and perhaps more impressively, passionate young men who love what they do and are certain to keep this place going for another century. Thanks so much TGV and the Hanhart team. I'm off to watch spot in Das Boot.

Yeah, okay, this is truly what I would consider an "in-house" production. It was lovely to see the passion the manufacturer had not only for their watches, but the whole production process and their employees. P.S.: I just came back from a tour of rural Germany, and it is by all means a great place to unwind.

They are so likeable at Hanhart, this is really a great but modest and sincere company. In 2001 I've asked them to do me a 1941 Replica in steel with the gold plated, decorated 7751 movement of the "Gold Chronograph" and they actually did it! The watch was running on the wrist at + 1 second per day and lost in position crown up 1 second during the night. After 9 months I've stopped controlling the watch since it kept that performance: incredible!

The Hanhart factory is different from what I was expecting. I assumed it would be much more like the Swiss watch factories, as in very clinical and modern. Like a laboratory. But apart from that CNC machine and final assembly room, it still resembles what such factories must of looked like, say 60/70 years ago. I also have to mention the sheer enthusiasm of that very young CEO…he really loves what he does!

I bought my first Hanhart this year. I am living not far away from Guetenbach. Great people and company. From now on every March for my birthday I will add one to my collection ❤

What an epically good factory tour of one my absolute favorite brands. Thank you for putting in the work on this one, and I agree, they should put together a book documenting their amazing history. 2 thumbs wayyyy up!

I admit to having never heard of Hanhart before. This was a fantastic insight into the company. What an idyllic place to live and work. For those in America, or anywhere for that matter who don't know, this is a shining example of the "Mittelstand" that makes Germany - Germany.

TGV, absolutely amazing, thank you so much for taking us on your tour of the Hanhart factory, I for one would love to see a full documentary of Hanhart. You will be solely responsible for me acquiring the 417, what a beautiful piece, just seeing where and how it's made with such precision to detail and passion for their timepieces was a joy to watch, I can't wait to get this on my wrist, Thankyou

This is the type of content that sets TGV above and beyond other watch centric channels. The deep dive into the history of Hanhart, their manufacturing and material handling process, design stages and visiting the actual factory as well as giving us viewers a flavor of the culture surrounding the factory location is so rich and professional. Thank You Tristan.

I have enjoyed this video very, very much. I knew very little about the brand and now after seeing this I would love to own a Hanhart. You've done a great job of showing what it's all about. Thank you!
