I like how everyone is saying " Bee hives and Ant colonies don't have Kings" you forget that just because they are in some ways similar to those doesn't mean they are Ants or Bees. Do the Xenomorphs produce honey?? No, they don't. Do Ants have Acid blood?? No as a matter of fact they don't. I'm glad they made a King Alien!

People are so unimaginative, seeing the king as a sort of binary partner to the queen. Maybe the purpose of a King xeno is to fulfill the role of a pure frontline combatant, geared towards engaging and destroying targets that present the most danger to a hive. Targets like the colonial marines armored vehicles, or an entire tribe of Yautja. The queen cant do this job, she's the future of the hive meaning that she cannot be risked and neither can the praetorians, their job is to guard the queen. The king, being so armored and tough, can do this without risking the hive. He's the one xeno that can be sent against the best the enemy has to offer and be expected to triumph. I'm also aware that the statue was made based on a comic thats has nothing to do with what I'm saying but I still can see a role for a "king" alien in the xenomorph realm.

Time to clear things up. 1. There is a king in the comics, but it was genetically engineered and made to over throw the queen, but the comics are not canon so that doesn't matter. 2. Even though in the movies the aliens are compared to ants and bees (which don't have kings but only males), there are these other insects called termites, they have hives, queens and kings. Also, remember these things are ALIENS, they aren't going to act exactly like insects on Earth. 3. The king doesn't have to be for mating, he could be a general or hord commander or like a warlord like someone mentioned. Or he could be used for mating and commanding the xenomorph hord. Final thing, don't say H.R. Giger wouldn't like this design because he liked the design for the queen.

I hope to see the Alien King on the big screen because the toy company Kenner had a whole wacky line for the Alien films, and this would be pretty damn cool.

maybe the kings purpose is to protect the queen And for the people who still think that they are like bees or ants .just compare them with termites because they build massive constructions ,have warriors ,workers, a queen and a king

WOW... I gotta add this to my collection!!! If I can make a request, I hope Sideshow makes an Alien Queen maquette to complement this piece. Also, I agree, in that I hope this piece does, "Spark some thought for a new character for a film." I would LOVE to see a movie based on this particular ALIEN. IMHO, this has the potential to be an AWESOME addition to the ALIEN franchise!!!

the queen is about expanding the species and protecting the hive the king is like a general all about battle and war

I love the movie Aliens but I never really liked the idea that the species were like a colony of ants. It made for great action cinema but it cheapened the feeling of any imaginative story that was felt whilst watching Alien. Though Prometheus was a flawed film I liked the idea that the species and its origin are much greater in scope than being like an ant hive. It feels more elegant in Alien. Giger's Necronom images feel like they tell a much more enriched story than an ant colony. All this being said I love sideshow and practical effects and sculptors and appreciate their work on all the films. These creatures seemed far more intricate than "ants or termites".

Just because aliens behave like a bee hive or any other insect colony ,it doesn't mean they can't make a king because they are "aliens" their transformations are unpredictable, and I love the idea and design for this alien king. This must definitely come out in a movie sooner or later.

I can see how the King fits in, you see, if something happens and the alien queen dies, there needs to be a backup leadership​.

The king should be in avp 3. It would be about a xenomorph invasion on earth and since there were so many xenomorphs the hive would be huge. If you look up Xenopedia king (caste), in the first paragraph it says(referring to the king alien), "that are only know to exist in the largest of xenomorph hives." And they can either nuke the infestation or evacuate. And should include the crusher alien, the praetorian, warriors, queen, carrier alien and maybe ravager alien.

So many awesome thoughts are going through my head right now after seeing this.

The statuette looks great, but the Alien King isn't exactly a new idea. In a graphic novel by Dark Horse, a scientist created an "Alien King" which was supposed to bring a hive to heel, but ultimately the purist form of the Queen and her hive rose up and dominated/destroyed this new xenomorph specimen. And I have to agree with that sentiment. The hive is pure in it's current form, like an insect hive, with only the queen at the top.

perhaps the king fertilizes the royal egg that someday becomes a preatorian which intern becomes a future king or queen while the other eggs become drones/warriors?

i just got the alien queen and king together from a great collector. I love these 2 pieces for they were my 2 dream statues i never even dare to dream i could be able to put them on my desk ! Now i have them finally and i feel like my collection of favorite statues is complete !

I can see the King as sort like Achilles in Troy. Only set out in battle when they need that special warrior but operates almost separate from the colony

They should put this into the movies. The facehuggers will no longer need a host to mature whenever the king is present. Thats the kings ability is to fertilize the queens eggs and create different xenomorph variants.

I would like to see it happen in a film... it looks and sounds too awesome to not be used.

I think this is a great idea. I do believe that the queen does need a king by her side.

I think the king would serve a similar role as a ravager, being bred for wars against opponents species

Sideshow just listed the Alien King for pre-order. Man, I just ordered the Space Jockey...but the Alien King at $1000? That's $400 more than the equally spectacular Space Jockey. Why so much higher priced than the Space Jockey? I love the Alien King...but have to think really hard if I wanna commit to its price...even with Flex-Pay. For that price, it better be a very limited numbered production. The Space Jockey's limited edition number is 1500. This Alien King better be under 1000 (500 would be even better)...to justify this price tag. Beautiful Maquette nevertheless.

it looks great but from an insect point of view (which is what the original creators used as reference) the queen would be the dominant organism in a hive and there would be breeder drones selected to mate with the queen. This really puts a damper on the iconic female motifs the alien movies are known for.

You can tell the guy at the end of the video loves his job and is so passionate.

I think a king could definitely work, not as a mate for the queen but as a commander directly below the queen. I can see a praetorian having the potential to evolve into a king along with a queen, ravager or carrier.

Would love to purchase more alien statues!! Was very disappointed by the new alien with arms crossed. There was so much you couldve done with the piece but you made it very " dull ". This statue is much more in line with what I love! Can't wait!
