Lucid recently completed its first factory, the $700 million Advanced Manufacturing Plant 1 in Casa Grande, Arizona. With big dreams that began in 2007, Lucid is now a major player in the EV world , with first deliveries of its flagship, Lucid Air, beginning in 2021.
Currently Lucid's only manufacturing facility, AMP-1 construction took less than 1 year! Currently capable of producing up to 34,000 units per year, the AMP-1 will eventually be expanded to be able to produce nearly 400,000 vehicles each year.
Lucid also recently announced that it would be building its second factory, and that it would be located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
What do you think of Lucid's plans to expand into Saudi Arabia? Do you think they made the right choice by locating the first plant in Arizona? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for watching!

Do you think Lucid's AMP-1 will help it contend with Tesla? What are your thoughts about Lucid's recently announced plant in Saudi Arabia?
@tribalypredisposed
@tribalypredisposed 2 года назад
It is too bad Lucid had to sell to Saudi Arabia. A lot of EV buyers are people with morals so they will have to rule out buying from Lucid. I used to work at Tesla and I live in Tucson, but I did not apply at Lucid because I am Jewish and have morals so a company majority owned by Saudi Arabia is out.

The Phase 2 factory will allow Air production up to the 50k units/year target, but also at least 250k units/yr of the Gravity SUV. Phase 3 seems to already be starting (see Bears Workshop YT channel). That will bring Gravity production to potentially 500k units. The Saudi plant is what they call a Knock-Down assembly plant. They will bolt together cars built in Arizona. This kind of plant is a common way to get around import duties and has been used in the US by Asian car companies for decades. See 2nd Derek Jenkins interview on MotoMan YT channel for up-to-date info.

It is amazing how Lucid was able to so quickly create its modern assembly plant and begin producing such beautiful vehicles. I wish them every success, since quality is what they are all about.👍

isn't that opinion not a little bit too early, because they have just delivered a few cars and are new on the market? 😅

Today Lucid is nothing more than a broken growth story. With their current deliveries and financial numbers Lucid only competes with themselves.

Construction at the site is progressing at an amazing pace. As others have mentioned, the 'Bears Workshop' RU-vid channel has regular drone footage of construction and new cars can be seen in the lot as they are assembled. Much of the manufacturing that is today done off-site or by contract will begin moving to AMP-1 next year. Meanwhile, as supply issues are finally being worked out, Lucid has picked up the delivery pace. I received my Air GT this past Friday. It is flawless, beautiful, and a joy to drive. It has really attracted attention wherever I have gone.

@@trailblazedHQ I really should make a video. My very first impression was "Wow! It's much larger than I expected!" The fit & finish are absolutely flawless. The tech all worked. Initial issues seem to have been resolved. The ride is refined but not overly floaty, and noticeably varies when modes are switched. Acceleration can be quite forceful in Smooth mode if pressed, but is shockingly strong in Sprint mode without being harsh. Very easy to tour freeway miles with ACC but a brief run on a tight and twisty road proved that I want to do more of that. Strong grip and precise steering, accelerator, and brake control. Energy consumption w/ 21" wheels is lower than expected (3.2m/kwh, 70mph, 72F, 18mph cross wind). Plug-n-charge worked first time and rates matched Tom M.'s test. Rear seat room is almost excessive. Materials and features exceed my expectations at every turn. It's a tight fit in my retro '70s era garage though. Extensive parking aids make it possible.

@@Miata822 that’s a great review! Should be in the Lucid website. Haha. Sounds like it’s more than what you expected. Can’t wait to get the chance to drive one soon.

@@trailblazedHQ I had tried a launch from a standing start to a "reasonable" speed using Sprint mode on a lonely road. It was quicker than I expected, and the numbers just flew by on the speedometer. That was before. Today I was on a long boring stretch of (empty private road in another country?) and I switched to Sprint mode. Going a steady 60mph on cruise control I suddenly slapped the accelerator. My head bounced on the headrest. By the time I could focus my eyes again the speedometer seemed to show three numbers, but they were still flying by at an increasing pace. This is the "slow" 800hp version. They say there is a 178mph speed limiter on the car, but that is due to the rating of the tires. Better tires are coming. Lucid posted a RU-vid video of a prototype car going 235mph. God help those poor souls cursed with the 1,111hp Dream Edition. Mortal man wasn't made with the willpower to resist using that much thrust.

@@Miata822 do you know what the actual useable pack capacity is for your air gt by chance? I've seen a claimed 112-118kwhs from lucid. So at your observed consumption with the 118kwh pack you would be around 370+miles of range. Does that match up to what the car itself shows you as available total range? I'm very curious as Tom muloghney from inside evs got right at 500 miles out of the air he tested on 19" wheels but it took over 134kwhs to fully recharge it from empty. And Edmunds most recent test of an air on 19s got 505 miles on 1 charge. But showed a consumption of 28.3kwhs per 100 miles driven, which would mean the pack's useable capacity is actually over 140kwhs. 🤔

100% agree - the more Lucids, Fiskers, etc. we have, the better EV products we'll start seeing in the world. Tesla will have to raise it's game to compete. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great specs especially a range of over 500 miles. I have my doubts at the moment if they can ramp up production, I bought a Lucid Air Grand Touring and was delivered to Millbrae 4-weeks ago, they told me it would be in qa for a few days, I paid for the car 4-weeks ago. The car has yet to work properly they told me they changed the computer and all cameras and they can't get the car to pass all tests. If they can't get 4 cars a day to work properly this can't bode well for them scaling up, I hope they can, I have yet to receive my car. To say they are bad at communication is being very kind. They have promised to deliver me the car 2 times now with times and dates and have canceled each time. I have several Tesla great cars, but they are the king of terrible service, especially communication. If Lucid fails this will not be good for the ev world, they raised a ton of money and are burning it like it's no big deal. At this rate, they will burn the 5.4 billion in cash they have in a year's time. I hope they get the stuff together and make this work but it is not looking good.

I'm afraid Lucid has missed the boat, the opportunity ship has sailed! Lucid's inability to produce cars has allowed every other car manufacturer to catch up and take away the orders. I still have not seen one on the road, and as soon as my stocks get close to being above water I'm bailing out!

I think you're right. Lucid's lack of execution has allowed other manufacturers (especially the traditional big ones) to take some massive strides into the sector. Thanks for watching and commenting!

i think they have a great potential, but because of the high price point they're like the Lamborghini of e-v's 😅. we have a showroom from lucid here in munich/germany and i had the chance to see this car... and i like the design, but the build quality isn't the best... unfortunately. hope, they're getting better, because the european market is very hard and u.s. cars aren't that famous here, because they have the image "nice design, bad quality"...😅 all the hardwares are nice, but what about the software?

Credibility is valuable, and yet you start the video claiming that Lucid and Nio and Rivian "aren't far behind anymore" when it comes to Tesla making cars at a 1.2 million a year clip. Yeah, only another ten years ramping production as fast as Tesla did, which set records, and Rivian and Lucid are where Tesla is today. Lucid has a nice car, but the location is an awful choice and they are too late reaching production. Top talent does not want to live in a town of 50,000 in the desert with some of the worst schools in the country, and they don't want to commute from Phoenix or Tucson. Worse still, the ongoing drought is going to be affecting the water supply to Phoenix and Casa Grande this year most likely. Even if everything works out great, Lucid reaches production of a million cars a year in 2032 and Tesla is making maybe 25 million a year by then. How does Lucid compete with that massive scale of production and the vast resources Tesla will have?

If Tesla produces that many cars there will be brand fatigue. They have not updated the Model S in 10 years and the car looks dated. We will also soon start seeing the appearance of second hand beat up Tesla's on the road as well.
