Far you guys are brave tbh, I remember growing up in Mangere during my Primary School days. 😅 Lucky enough not to get dropped. Good memories of the boys bringing back my bike. 😂❤ Gotta love the community even if some of us are still finding their way. Thanks for your guys work. 😊🫡 We need more people like you guys, setting the example.

Man he ain’t lying 38 years in Mangere and back in the 90’s the town centre was the place to be, smell of fresh food, every corner you’d hear conversations in Tongan/Samoan/Rarotonga/niuean etc, seeing your friends from school, smiling faces and like the brother said it was Colourful! Vibrant and business bustling with people! I hope we get to see it like that again so that our kids can get to experience it! Mangere forever home!

💯… at the Mangere markets food was popping … pork buns, panipopo … the Arcades … fried chicken in the centre, cheap as pies $1 at Orly Ave and the big jolly drinks, cultural performances happening … top it off doing bombs at the Mangere pools lol the spirit in Mangere was thriving back then … been in oz now 14 yrs but I miss those days 90s- early 2000s

This was a watch that took me down memory lane for sure, grew up in Mangere and know of all the gangs Fitz mentioned - alot of those shops in Mangere Town Centre hasnt changed like he said, Jit Shoes and that Dickies store. This was a real rare watch and real solid to see a Mangere brother present the hood like this. A suburb full of culture, stories and love. Gotta love the hood, shot for the upload Felon Show!

The utmost and ultimate respect to the uso and ALL the brothers down south, holding it down and paving the way for our younginz. Shout out to all of you and this channel. The pronunciation and knowledge of Maori culture just blows my mind! You are not obliged at all to pronounce names correctly, or have an in-depth understanding of any cultural history, or to even participate in joint struggles. That's a pure example as to why we, as a people, are truly one nation. My upbringing and schooling was definitely a massive clash of cultures but at the same time, united. I would never have wanted it any other way. Much love ❤

Mangere boy here. Been away since 2003. Lived in Favona, went to school at Mangere Intermediate 1991-92, now part of the Southern Cross campus. I used to bike/walk home via Garus Ave and then through the old hospital grounds to Harania Ave. Sometimes via McNaughton, McKinstry and Robertson. That hospital is now a suburb. Sister still lives at Vine Street and worked at Barbeque Rostilj - first for the original Eastern European owners and then for the Chinese guy. I remember when the Tua family rebuilt their house on Robertson Road. I went to Otahuhu College with David Tua. He has a trouble maker freshie. He now does a great show on the Radio Samoa channel. I hung around Mangere Town Centre when Farmers (managed by Sonny Bill Williams' uncle?) was still there, and even before MacDonalds came in. And before the markets started up in the carpark. I see the ASB is no longer at that corner at Mangere Town Centre. I went to school with Alfred Hunkin who was the nightwatchman there. One night he caught some kids breaking into the centre and he beat them up. They later stabbed him for it. Is the library still there? Mangere Town Centre looks run down and that is sad. I clearly remember when the whole of Mangere Bridge used to stink all the time from the sewerage ponds. I know someone there with a $1.4m+ house there and I can't believe it. My other sister lived at Frisian Drive at the corner with Massey Road. The house burnt down once. Other family at Ashgrove Ave. And all this before the gangs. Never heard of these gang names. I knew all those streets like the back of my hand. Thanks for the tour.

Born and breed in rewa from 84 - 2001. Then moved to Whangamata. Use to enjoy going out to Mangere as a kid, to play the Hawks, then go to the markets for a feed after our games, then venture to start of the runway and we'd climb up on the roof of the Sportpac van to feel the wind of the aircrafts. It was a gravel rd, probably closed now.. My old man was born in Mangere in 1960 with his five bros/sisters 42 Allen St. My middle name was named after this St apparently, only reason I remember it. This clip bought back so many memories, even tho I'm not a local it was a place I always felt comfortable in, esp for a half/caste boy haha

Thanks for an insight of South of the Bombay Hills. I have never been to Otara and Mangere and your video was an interesting perspective. Never knew that there were so many minor gangs since my time in New Zealand. Never been to that side of New Zealand although Im a Samoan. I was born in Christchurch and lived in P Town NZ until 1981, before I migrated to Australia. Only gangs then were the Black Power and the Mongrel Mob for the Maori. Samoans had the Peacemakers in the late 1970s. That faded just as quick as the Rugby players who worked at the Todd Motors had families and grew up. I left NZ in 1981 and returned in the 1990-93 for University only and visited in 2000 for a few months then returned to Australia. I have never seen this version of Polynesian lifestyle apart from the music and stories. I have never seen Mangere and Otara from this perspective. Thank you for the video.
