Let's take apart a "mini switch" to see how it works, how to repair it, and how it can be used! Product or sales related inquiries: nextgenguitars.ca/pages/contac... Social Media: / nextgenguitars / nextgenguitars / nextgenguitars
Awesome, I'm using your information for a DPDT switch for a telecom PL240C tone generator. I think I will be able to have a decent chance at repairing as i have all the pieces. The prior owner broke it, however left me the gift in the truck I inherited from him at work. This equipment if far more powerful than the Fluke type I'm issued by the company, they won't spend the higher $ for my position type. Thanks again!!!
Im my country it is quite imposible to find a "momentary on-off-on mini toggle switch". But thanks to your video now i know how, and where to put springs to make it work. Thanks a lot!
Wow, cool! Hopefully you can get away with just a spring. Momentary switches like this normally have moveable contacts that are bent slightly different. Might have to look at that as well. Best of luck with the mod!!
Can I use these mini switches for activating Coil split? Usually, when you wanna use coil split, you pull up the volume button, right? But I'd like use a mini toggle switches for this. Do you know if there's a video about how to wiring HH coil split to mini switches?
If you wanted 2 switches (one for each pickup), you could use 2 SPST switches: nextgenguitars.ca/products/generic-mini-switch-spst-on-off.html Or, if you want them both wired to one switch, you could use a DPDT switch: nextgenguitars.ca/products/generic-mini-switch-dpdt-on-on.html I don't know about a wiring video, but there are many good wiring diagrams on the web. A push-pull pot (the kind you mentioned) is just a pot with a DPDT switch built into it. So, it's the same thing really. If you find a wiring diagram with a push-pull pot to coil split, just treat the switch lugs on the push-pull as if it were a separate DPDT switch. Hope that helps!
@@NextGenGuitars I thank you very much for your answer, there is not much problem with activating both, it works the same way and it is what I have right now.
Hi! Im not expert on electornics... Im trying to replace the "bright switch" in my fender super reverb. Original switch only has two terminal and replacement is as the one shown in video, has three terminal, do you have any idea how should I connect the replacement one?
hello. I have a question. I am not that knowledgeable about electronics and I am trying to wire an active gain boost to my guitar with a 3-way switch using this configuration: position 1: Guitar pickups ----> Volume pot ----> Gain boost ----> Output position 2: Same as position 1 but with an additional LED battery level indicator connected to the 9v battery position 3: Guitar pickups ----> Volume pot ----> Output (gain boost is bypassed; connection between 9v battery and the gain boost is broken to prevent battery from draining when not in use) what type of 3 way switch do i use and how do i wire it up? thanks
Honestly never wired up a battery level indicator, so I couldn't help you on the specifics on building that. As for the switch, you could do that with a DPDT On-On-On switch. But, the battery indicator setting would have to be either position 1 or 3. Otherwise, the level indicator will be active in 2 positions. 1:44 For what its worth, an outboard boost is more versatile than having one built into your guitar. I would build a boost pedal, instead of doing it in the guitar itself. Best of luck with your DIY efforts!
I want to install a mini toggle switch on my guitar and have it act as a killswitch. Just a simple on off kind and I was just wondering which type of switch I should buy?
Any mini lever switch or momentary push-button switch. SPST would be ideal. You could also use SPDT, DPDT, or any other kind, if that's all you can find. You would just ignore the extra lugs. We did one using a momentary push-button one in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CH_qLEvvVV8.html
Sure, though I'm not sure why one would want to. It wouldn't be a drop-in replacement and would require some effort because the hole size is much bigger than the mini switch. Also, generally you want a much more robust switch than a mini switch to be used as your pickup selector. But, I suppose that could be a preference thing.
This video is great, the only thing im cofused by is the rating on the switches, Can i use dpdt on-on toggle switches on the guitar that are 0.5A rated or do they need to be 3A or higher? I dont underatand how this affects if i can use them and i assumed the guitar was a passive circuit so it didnt have much flowing through it but i have no idea what im talking about 😂
@@NextGenGuitars Awesome, thank you so much, i couldnt find anything on google explaining this and you just cleared up all the confusion. Really appreciate the help.
I have a On and On toggle switch which got broken by my cat Sir on it it says 0.4 VA Max but what I am only finding in market is 6A 125VAC Switch sir will it be ok if I put in 6A 125 VAC in my Home Audio Amplifier please guide me please
Do on-off-on switches kill the signal in the middle position, because it turns everything "off"? Or does it just send out a signal unaffected by the top & bottom pins? (SPDT)
Switches have common lugs and throws, and they switch between the throw lugs. A switch with an "off" option, disconnects the common lugs from all throw lugs.
I have a LP styler with a 3 way switch, 2 humbuckers, 2 vol and 1 tone knob that is push/pull. I’ve seen some guitarists have a mini toggle that allows the bridge humbucker go full power which supposedly allows 1 vol and 1 humbucker. I’ve seen this on a Mastercaster Strat
@@JamesJonahJameson-MM "Going full power" generally means bypassing the tone pot, or bypassing all the controls and going straight to the output. The result is a little brighter with a little more output. You can definitely wire a switch into your guitar to accomplish the same task. The difficulty is finding or making the wiring diagram necessary.
This video was more to show how it can be taken apart and serviced, so long as the internal parts aren't damaged beyond use. It's extremely difficult to find replacement parts for switches. And, even if you do, chances are the cost is nearly as high as just buying a new switch.
