Inside The $16 Million Gulfstream G150 Private Jet
0:00 - Intro
This is the Gulfstream G150, a wide-cabin business jet that has been praised for its performance, comfort, and advanced technology. Developed by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and Israel Aircraft Industries, the G150 was first launched in 2005 and began operations in 2006. Stay with us till the end of the video because here is everything you need to know about the Gulfstream G150.
0:57 - Cabin
The cabin of the G150 has a width and height of 5 feet 9 inches or 1.75 meters, and provides stand-up headroom, wide legroom, and a spacious aisle, and can be configured to accommodate up to 8 passengers.
The galley is located directly across from the entrance door, and it's equipped with all the amenities needed to prepare and serve meals during the flight.
One of the key features is its customizable interior design. Operators can choose from a selection of skin, upholstery, wood coating, and floor coverings.
The cabin is equipped with a Honeywell environmental control system, which maintains a comfortable and stable cabin environment throughout the flight. Ensuring passengers have a comfortable journey, the maximum cabin altitude is 7,000 feet, and it maintains a sea-level cabin up to 23,000 feet.
The engines are mounted a full wing width after the passenger cabin, which significantly reduces noise levels inside the cabin.
In terms of in-flight entertainment, a satellite phone and a high-definition entertainment center with ledge-mounted, high-definition television monitors equip the G150.
The G150 also features a well-equipped lavatory located in the aft-most cabin. And finally, an external heated baggage compartment provides 55 cubic feet or 1.56 cubic meters of storage, resulting in a total space of 80 cubic feet or 2.26 cubic meters.
3:26 - Cockpit
The cockpit is very comfortable and roomy, and the visibility is excellent with large swept windshields and big single-pane windows beside each pilot.
The G150 has four 10-by-12-inch Collins Pro Line 21 displays.
The CCD is a pistol grip-style handle that has a trigger for the enter functions, a thumb wheel to scroll through ranges and menus, and buttons under your thumb to move the cursor from one display to the other.
The engines on the G150 have digital electronic engine computers that behave exactly like full-authority digital engine controls, except that the DEECs have a mechanical backup while FADEC uses multiple electronic channels.
The G150 power levers have flat spots that help you find the power settings by feel, but the PlaneView displays also show you by posting the letters “CLB” when climb power is selected and “CRZ” for maximum cruise.
The aircraft also includes Gulfstream’s Enhanced Vision System. EVS employs a specially built forward-looking camera that displays a real-world infrared image on the pilot’s multi-function display.
5:57 - Engine and Performance
Talking about performance, the G150 is powered by two Honeywell TFE731-40AR turbofan engines, each rated at 4,420 pounds. This enables the G150 to attain a maximum speed of Mach 0.85, and a long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.75, which allows it to cover the most distance. Flying four people nonstop up to 3,000 nautical miles or 5,556 km at this speed with NBAA IFR reserves is the equivalent of flying nonstop from New York to Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro to Santiago, or London to Moscow. The plane has pneumatic de-icing systems on the wings and can fly up to 45,000 feet or 13,716 meters.
Even though the climbing rates are not as high as those of rival aircraft, they are nonetheless acceptable. The average rate of ascent per minute is 2,150 feet or 655 meters. The aircraft’s take-off distance is significantly better than predicted, with a 5,000-foot or 1,525-meter runway need when at MTOW and a 2,880-foot or 800-meter landing runway requirement.
The G150 also features a standard auxiliary power unit that heats and cools the cabin on the ground and can be started in the air up to 20,000 feet or 6,100 meters, and operated up to 35,000 feet or 10,700 meters to offer a third source of electrical power.
8:38 - Purchase and Charter Price
The base purchase price for a new Gulfstream G150 is $16 million before options, $4 million on average for a pre-owned model, and the charter price is estimated at $4,000 to $6,000 per hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.
8:58 - Operating Cost
While the annual fixed cost is roughly $400,000 to $600,000, the average hourly operating cost is estimated at $2,500 to $3,500.
