Inside The $3 Million Tecnam P2012 STOL Plane
0:00 - Intro
This is the Tecnam P2012 STOL. “Short takeoff and landing” and “piston twin” are not phrases that usually go together, unless you are talking about the P2012 STOL produced by Tecnam Aircraft. The new P2012 was created as a “rugged and durable high wing, fixed gear design” with the mission of getting into and out of some of the most demanding commercial airports in the world. Today we’re going inside the Tecnam P2012 STOL to talk about everything you need to know about this exciting aircraft.
0:46 - Cabin
Inside, passenger comfort has not been skimped on as the interior is enhanced by a central aisle and configured for nine seats with a window for each person, with bench or double seats. Each space has a USB port, cabin air conditioning, in-seat cabin hot and fresh air outlet, dedicated reading light, seat pockets, and cup-holders. The aircraft has a spacious, in-cabin, luggage compartment, additional nose luggage compartment, and under-seat storage space. The interior design and the superb view provided by the high wing configuration provide a best-in-class experience for the flights to typical exotic STOL destinations.
From a comfort perspective, the P2012 STOL offers a wider cabin, +24% larger seat pitch, higher luggage weight allowance, and better luggage volume when compared to the most known British STOL aircraft, and does it all in accordance with the latest certification standards. The P2012 STOL is the only twin-piston with Short Take-Off Landing capabilities compliant with the latest certification amendments, and offers a Maximum Gross Weight or 8,113 lbs or 3,680 kg, while guaranteeing a modern design, wide and comfortable cabin, and a total of 11 seats, 2 for pilots and 9 for passengers.
2:16 - Cockpit
The cockpit is designed to facilitate single-pilot operations, as it is equipped with a state-of-the-art Garmin G1000 NXi avionic system, and a GFC 700 autopilot specifically tuned for the STOL mission. The flight deck features Bluetooth, flight stream, Iridium, as well as weather radar, storm scope, inset map, and synthetic vision to help reduce workload and fatigue while increasing mission effectiveness. The P2012 is certified for single-pilot VFR and IFR for commercial operations. No type rating is required.
2:56 - Engine and Performance
From the performance perspective, the P2012 STOL was developed by the Tecnam Research and Development team to be flexible in multiple applications. In addition to passenger transport, the aircraft can be used for cargo, air ambulance, and special missions, and just as easily converted back to passenger operations.
It features two six-cylinder turbocharged engines, and can easily and more comfortably carry an equivalent payload of the most known British STOL aircraft while matching its takeoff and landing performances. Moreover, the P2012 STOL can also outperform its useful load by 20% up to a remarkable value of 2,830 lbs or 1,284 kg while performing a STOL mission.
The P2012 STOL, has twin 375-horsepower Continental GTSIO-520-S engines. The STOL version's Continental engines lack FADEC and have traditional throttle, propeller, and mixture levers and three-blade MT composite propellers. It also has a wingspan that is 54.5 feet or 16.6 meters, which is 8.5 feet or 2.6 meters longer than the original P2012 Traveller’s.
At the Maximum Takeoff Weight of 8,113 lbs or 3,680 kg, the take-off run for the new P2012 takes only 900 feet or 275 meters, and to clear the obstacle the takeoff distance is achieved in just 1,395 feet or 425 meters. Even better at the Maximum Landing Weight of 8,000 lbs or 3,630 kg, where the landing distance from the obstacle takes only 1,180 feet or 360 meters, and the ground run requires just 510 feet or 155 meters.
Talking about performance in detail, the P2012 STOL is powered by two 375-horsepower Continental GTSIO-520-S engines, and a 3-blade propeller. This combination is able to push the aircraft to a maximum cruising altitude of 19,500 feet or 5,945 meters, with a maximum rate of climb of 1,400 feet or 427 meters per minute. The aircraft has a cruise speed of 185 knots at 10,000 feet or 3,050 meters, a range of 905 nautical miles or 1,675 kilometers, and a useful load of 2,831 lbs or 1,284 kg, compared to the original Traveller’s maximum cruise speed of 194 knots, 950-nautical-mile range, and 3,117-pound useful load.
6:26 - Purchase Price
The base purchase price for a new Tecnam P2012 STOL is $2.75 million before options. The aircraft has entered final configuration, moving on to the certification phase in 2023.

Akan sangat lebih kuat tenaga nya kalau dipasang tiga ( 3 ) mesin satu mesin di depan .. Dua mesin di samping kanan kiri sehingga menambah tenaga dan menambah kecepatan !!!!

You could have a real twin jet for that price.

That's not the point. You aren't going to get a jet off the ground in 900 feet, and you *SURE* aren't going to find a jet with 9 seats in it for that price. You want a jet with equivalent passenger and load capacity, you're looking at paying triple the price of this airplane. I am not a fan of the geared Continentals however - I'd rather have the Lyc 540's of the original P2012 Traveler.

@@ScottsSynthStufftrying to explain mission profile to a non pilot that knows nothing about aircraft or flying is futile.

Nice bird! But why this ugly fixed gear...
@Pix2GoStudios
@Pix2GoStudios 7 месяцев назад
It's designed for rough and unimproved airports. Fixed gear is easier to make lightweight and strong, and also lowers the overall cost of the aircraft. Also lower maintenance costs over the life of the plane.

When they're down and welded, you don't forget them. Note that the fast and slick SR22 has fixed gear.
