Going to London next month, definitely going to search for this. Thanks! London has so many secret treasures like this one just waiting to be reborn. History is fascinating and so important to preserve.
When seeing this little beauty, one could only imagine how impressive and beautiful the Crystal Palace itself had been. If someone would borrow me a TARDIS...
I used to hang around the old site in the late 70s and early 80s. Skinheads and punks used to sniff glue down there and all sorts of drop outs and junkies would use it... Was a nasty stinky place. But, it was wonderful to see as a young man. I had a lot of passion for the old crystal palace and walked around the site many times.
I was there at Open House Days in 1997, really impressed by its beauty. But if I'm not wrong, it was in better shape than today. Hope the reconstruction will be successful...
The music video to the Chemical Brothers 'Setting Sun' was also shot here, skip forward to 2m40s and you can clearly see it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p5NX1FC-7-w.html
There's a smidge of misinformation at the start. The Great Exhibition of 1851 took place in Hyde Park in the temporary building that was quickly dubbed 'The Crystal Palace'. After the exhibition closed the building was dismantled and reconstructed in the Sydenham area, but the exhibition itself didn't follow. The subway wasn't built and used to attend the exhibition, just to gain access to the building which previously housed it.
Don't be Lie ve the story of it . look at it think who built it with what ... horses cart's.. shovels.they built the like in every major city in America Japan South America....
i also heard that the prototype tunnel for the London underground was tested on land where the crystal place stood too Anerley hill entrance if i recall right
It will be nice to reopen Cristal Palace tube Station, We will spend less time commuting towards Victoria Station which is already so crowded! It will be a great economical opportunity for Cristal Palace to increase its development, also beneficial for the youth. We don't need a space event, we need to commute properly to go to work! Thank you. Best Wishes. DDB.
If this would be open to the public, it would be a reason for me to visit London again after over twenty years.. Can anyone tell me which music video was shot here, which was mentioned in this video?
Market stalls selling local produce only and they have to prove they are paying their taxes in order to get a stall, and not be owned by any larger corporate interests. All stalls pay rent to be there which pays for up keep and any further profits go to local charities. Utopia I guess.
It’s ancient. Ask yourself how they built things like this with no machinery and horse and buggy? History is a lie, and they left a lot out so we will never know our true potential.
@@malcolmcanning548 I know. But, it so obvious that we didn't build all that stuff before electricity. We can't even build it today. And the masses never question.
@@kenkanada131 I'm 66yrs been in steel construction for 50yrs...I can guarantee the likes of us could never build not even with all our technology today these structures...
