I've only heard of the terrors that the Kraken brought to Splatoon 1, but since I was a Splatoon 2 scrub, I never experienced them for myself. I was actually quite happy that there weren't any of those broken specials in the later games... *And then the fresh season happened.*
Oh it was WOOOOORSE my friend, it was worse. The kraken was just immune to all damage and had no start and end lag. For this reason it was THE panic button, and people would often scare me so hard that I fell out of the chair.
Octoling Kraken is giving…. Jimmy Neutron. But what I don’t understand with the Kraken, ( and all the other specials ) is how everyone else is so good at it, meanwhile I dash into the water each time😭 Maybe Tacticooler next? Anyway, amazing video, Alpha!
The pain new players will never feel of running away from a kraken chasing toward you on arowana mall Ah the memories, using both areospray and gal praying one isn't on the other team (though with how broken it was surprised it wasn't on every team anyway)
Bro. You are a mind reader. As someone who loves kraken a ton, this is so true. I am glad to see the kraken come back. I only played Splatoon 1 at a friend’s house but I loved to use it for the time I did. I am happy to see it come back. And I will admit, it has some nerfing that is fair will still keeping what made it special
I loved that the kraken returned While others feared the kraken, I tamed the kraken back in the old glory days of Inkopolis. I'm excited especially for side order since Kraken does 60 damage minimum Octarians get splatted after 60 damage (they die to a direct burst bomb hit, which does 60 damage) Meaning that there's a giant chance there is an infinite kraken level in side order
I honestly thought the kraken wasn’t as bad as the splatoon one version, but apparently it’s a power house according to competitive players. Tho I will say it’s quite awkward when your trying to go full aggro and your opponent just avoids everything or just has ninja squid to hide from you, it’s a tad bit humiliating but Jesus this thing must be a nightmare on tower control…
The moment you hear the sound of a kraken being activated, you know you're very likely a target... r u n Seriously, they somehow managed to make the most terrifying splatoon 1 special an even bigger threat, quite literally too. Awesome video Alpha! 🐯
As someone who mained Krak-On in S1, and still mains it now I'm thrilled it's back. It took me uh, longer than I'd like to admit to remember there's start up lag, and I landed off stage at least once on stream (I think it was in Umami). Glad there's major knock back when you're on tower as kraken now, because honestly you shouldn't really be up there anyway. Best let a teammate ride tower while you scare the enemy team away from it (unless there's a bomb, then you go up and tank it to keep from losing control of the tower and reset that timer).
As someone who only played Splatoon 2 (and started a literal week before 3’s announcement lmao) I never did experience the terror of the OG kraken for myself, however, just watching RU-vid videos was enough for me to know this thing was going to be too teir, if not Splash 2.0 on release.
I cant believe I was in a match against you Alpha! (I was the Tri Slosher on HangleFish Market in Turf War) :O (Sorry about that off topic) great video though! Haha :D
oh boy here we go,, I just love it when I’m helping my team out in splat zones only to be jumpscared by a kraken popping up behind me and charging straight for me like its a free rated R movie 😀 /s
I played splatoon 1 at my friend's house a lot when I was younger and I was pretty bad at video games then so I loved kraken because it meant I just got to win a fight with him by pressing the stick
If you don’t do the super chump after then you are a giant chump you stanky chump you dang scrubby chump and you better put in the line “it’s chumping time” and then chump all over the enemy.
Started with Splatoon 2, but I played Splatoon 1 on my friends wii a bunch. I experienced first hand the kraken. Terrified when I heard it was coming back
As a splatoon 1 veteran, it was terrifying when the enemy team had a kraken and you could only hope the kraken ran out before your ink tank did. *and now they gave it a charge attack*
Imagine this you are a inkling and you see Sheldon post that he is bring back kraken. You are sad but yet you realize that the kraken is small and know with faster fire rate weapons it should be easy to deal with it. But when it came out it turn out to be 10 TIMES ITS SIZE! And start charging right at you and you can’t knock it back so you die in disbelief.
I started playing s2 in 2020 so I’m not that new. I did do my Splatoon 1 research, and I watch people like Prochara so I’m very aware of the comp meta 😅 but when I saw that kraken was coming... *”oh Jesus”*
Why am I having a cursed idea. What if they brought back Stingray- BUT reworked it. Instead of being a global special, it’s much shorter range, say half the map instead of full map or maybe less, just so that it doesn’t be broken on maps like Mahi Mahi. And once you start it, you have a small frame of time, like maybe half a second where all enemies have a thermal ink effect. But you cannot go into the ink to get this effect back. Stingray can still shoot through walls but does less damage than it would if it was shooting through the open. And maybe instead of it being purely time based, it’s mainly based on how much you have ink your ink tank, but still has a duration of time before the Stingray poofs out of existence. And to add to that, once you finish using the stingray, you have to wait a little bit to charge it up again. Even though it looks used in your main bar, maybe in like a mini bar beside it shows how much you have to wait before you can charge it again. If the devs really want to bring back the horrid nightmares of Splatoon 1 known as Kraken, I think this would be a decent way to bring back the horrid nightmares of Splatoon 2. Oh and to top it off. Have this reworked stingray be on less paint efficient weapons, like maybe a gal, and well to be extra funny put it on a dynamo. And make it so that instead of being 190p for Gal, it’s maybe a 200p-210p special? Do that it gets it less Stingrays to make it not extremely broken. And for Dynamo, either keep it 180p or bump it up to 190p, since without any special charge up it takes 11 vertical flicks to charge up 1 tacticooler at 190p, and with 3 mains of special charge, it’s 7 vertical flicks. Maybe even put it on a foil squeezer? Nah- And for Special power up, only increase it’s duration and or thermal ink effect duration to maybe a second and a half or 2 seconds. If they were to make it increase the length/damage through walls if they were to nerf the damage through walls, you’d see a lot of players run special power up. And if there is anything to explain how broken Stingray was and how it will be if they brought it back in it’s normal form, Stinger in salmon run is a clear reason as to why they should nerf it, if it comes back. Do I think the devs should bring back Stingray? No, god no it would ruin balance, though would add a new option to counter Crab Meta. But I am not a game dev or a good special balance designer. I just wanted to, ramble about my favorite sounding special (the main reason I liked using it was for the sound and not it’s brokenness) and most hated fighting against special from Splatoon 2.
I have played Splatoon 1 and my response was this: Finally, I have ascended Splatoon 1 with my loaded into Splatoon 3. AHAHAH I used the Krak-on Splat Roller.
Kraken can cheese every ranked mode. U can tank a tri strike on the tower, get under the clam basket for free in clam blitz, assassinate the rainmaker or pick it up regardless of how well it’s being defended, and scare everyone off the zone by having a massive one shot hitbox. It’s even a good counter against crab on top of being fun to play. I can’t believe Nintendo didn’t realise what they have unleashed…
Gonna be honest, I was optimistic about the Kraken as my FIRST game was S2, but managed to get my hands on a gamestop copy of S1, so I was able to try it out for myself, back when servers were still up.. I never got to level 50 and just kinda forgot about the game-
First game: Splatoon 2 My reaction to specials in Splatoon 3: Of all the specials you chose to bring back, Nintendo, you chose the tents missiles over the splashdown?
I don’t know who at Nintendo decided to make the kraken invincible, but then again if it’s invincible it feels more like how the kraken felt in Splatoon 1. Also I’ve suggested this multiple times but idk if you noticed. *Cursed build idea: special power up wavebreaker.* I saw in a prochara vid how much the wavebreaker radius can increase with just 3 subs of special power up (which is a lot), so what if we add more? 👀
I think kraken fits this game really well, in splatoon 2 the maps were just as bad as they are now, but to compensate for that we had uncounterable specials that let you brute force your way in. Now of course this lead to special spam, but honestly at least the game was playable, but now that splatoon 3 has actually good specials that can't brute force their way through any situation (except for crab tank, though even that isn't as broken as something like sting ray which didn't even need to think about positioning and just super jumped to spawn). Anyways, my point is that kraken is an unkillable special that forces the enemy team to give you a foothold, though since it has more counterplay and risk than other specials like that like sting ray or missiles, it's more fun to use and more fun to play against, and is very needed because currently we don't really have a way to get in on these no flank route ah maps
As a veteran of Splatoon “I’ve bin playing since day one” I can say the kraken is scary and wish they didn’t bring it back I honestly think it’s still broken, maybe not as broke as Splatoon OG but still
ive played Splatoon 1 and am the rare minority that loves the kraken. The sheer terror of seeing it, the power trip of having it. Op specials made Splatoon 1 Splatoon 1
Do note that currently it seems the transformation back is still invincible, however an experienced player WILL either unload on you, guaranteeing your splat, or toss a well timed bomb for the most embarrassing splat of your career. But who are we kidding? That's gonna be the first thing to go, so don't get used to it.
I mained the kraken specials in splatoon 1 so I was not at all phased by it. *fear me mortals.* Also I was a small child with no idea the community was terrified of this special.
Alphastar please hear me out on this.. Can you please do “How Splatoon 1 players see the DLC”? Knowing you, you have probably already thought about it. No pressure, just putting that out there :)
