When I moved to diaspora 28years ago, we did one of those in the movies stuff of hanging a temporary cloth as curtain as we await unpacking.wueeh! The very next day, there was a letter and physical contact from the janitor who said that temporary solution of ours was an eye sore that neither fits nor belongs in the neighbourhood.And since it was an interracial family, I will never forget how that guy pulled his specs to the nose and added,"and so is hanging stuff on balcony rails".Na vile growing up the best and quickest way to Kausha manguo was utilising any free space.🥺Forever traumatized.

The county government should build laundromats nearby and charge affordable rates for washing and drying clothes and have employees monitoring them. With the proceeds collected from those neighborhood laundromats, they should pay taxes to the revenue authority.

The owners of these highrise apartments live in places like runda, Lavington green and or Karen. The rents are collected for them by some discreet and crude behaved estate agents who care least about the comfotability of the tenants who occupy those houses!!!

The county government has failed miserably when it comes to garbage collection, despite collecting taxes from city residents. Time, they stopped centralizing operations from the city hall since the city has been growing for decades, created different JURISDICTIONS for northern, southern, eastern, western and central business districts for issues related to fire station, garbage collection, enforcement of city bylaws. This way, we are able to see PERFORMING and NON PERFORMING jurisdictions. To eliminate Unplanned structures like the slums, county government should start building low cost AFFORDABLE housing and collect revenue from the cheap rents and paying taxes, thus eliminating unscrupulous individuals building slums and depriving the county government it's revenue.

There has been a rise in cases of toddlers and small kids suffering from Vitamin D deficiency in Pipeline Estate, due to insufficient sunlight as Africans require sunlight to survive. And lack of elevators for 10-story buildings, 5 more than the statutorily required. The government here failed the estate on physical planning
@LetsTravellChannel
@LetsTravellChannel Год назад
So black people living in developed countries lack sunlight too? Most live in even higher buildings. Elevators make sense only if you have reliable 24/7 electricity which Kenya 🇰🇪 and most of Africa doesn’t have.

I am horrified. I never knew we had such a place in Nairobi. This reminds me of a mega slum Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong which was demolished I believe 1993-94. It is such a shame that city does not provide proper roads or any kind of planning. Shame on the city planners that such buildings have no water, proper lighting, schooling. Shame shame. How is this approved with no proper planning?

Anywhere you see such places, it simply means illegal informal settlements. That is why they lack proper infrastructure e.g roads, schools, hospitals etc because even to the government no such place exists on the official plans.

Amazing initiative! I like the idea of going into the real spaces and talking to real people. Perhaps another video would suffice to interview traders (as you say there is plenty of food trade), establish the rent structures, interview politicians and local authority regarding services, history of the estate (in the 1990s the place was empty and just the ultra modern Kenya Pipeline workers estate), the possibility of Kenya Railways easing transport problems, the future of the estate and building codes, etc. Otherwise a brilliant production from Dolphine.
