FIRST thing I thought. Ernie keeps a calm environment up dere even when dey argue soon as da video cut on nd I didn't I see him, I knew it was a contributin factor.
@@michaeljenkins8679 it's true for d wade but not kobe. Shaq was still easily the best player on the Lakers at that time. Shaq was averaging over 28 points and 10+ boards in those championship years with kobe. In the 2000 finals he averaged over 38 points with 16+ boards. In 2001 he averaged 33/16/5 and in 2002 he averaged 36/12/4. As much as I love Chuck he was definitely wrong about kobe carrying him because he outplayed kobe all 3 of those years. Chuck should have said that he didn't have a kobe or d wade to help him win.
I love that every time Chuck and Shaq argue, it always ends up with the same comments from each side. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Chuck! Google me, Chuck!” “I didn’t have Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade carrying me up and down the court”. It doesn’t even matter what the original argument was about 😂😂😂
Ryan i think he always seems unhappy because kobe bryant and tim duncan won more championship than him, that’s the reason.in his later career he tried it with suns, celtics and cavs but failed,he got so hurt until now.
That’s why he doesn’t go at Kenny lol Kenny got one over him in fact....you should be able to bench whoever ain’t going off when you need it and the player should chill and respect it if you bombed out you bombing sit it down but Charles is right you can’t do that and never discuss it like it didn’t happen
I hate that Shaq brings up rings every argument. Was he a dominant force? Absolutely! But chuck wasn’t a scrub, a lot of greats don’t have rings. Shaq you didn’t win those rings by yourself.
Shaq doesn't mention the fact that his teams got swept four times, too: '94 (Indiana), '95 (Houston), '96 (Chicago), '98 (Utah).... Oh, excuse me-- FIVE (San Antonio, '99).
Exactly, on top of that, Chuck hit his prime at the exact same time as Jordan. Without MJ in his way, Chuck most likely would have won a chip during his MVP season in '93.
Charles: "Shaq you want some onion rings?" Shaq: "IVE ALREADY GOT RINGS CHUCK HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE YOUR WRONG I GOT RINGS AND FINALS MVPs GOOGLE ME CHUCK!!!"
Youre right but made a dumb argument. Chuck had Hakeem and pippen and drexler. He had dexler and hakeem at the same time. but out of their primes. They are H.O.F. doesnt mean he had a great chance to win
the rings argument is stupid...i hate when Shaq always falls back on "i got rings you dont" to try to win against Charles.. so what...Charles Barkley didnt have the help Shaq did..FACTS..lets not act like just cause Barkley didnt wina ring he was some inflated bum...Chuck won league MVP when a prime Micheal Jordan was still around at the height of his powers..and made the finals..he was a winner..
DatoneGuy Well to be real, Charles had help. He just ran into like you said, Jordan, then one like Jordan, except playing center. If not for those 2, Charles might’ve had 3 rings!!
Naww he's just trying to strike back at Shaq the way Shaq comes at him, Chuck really don't believe what he's saying, it's just that Shaq throws those rings in his face and Chuck has to fight back
Everybody throws that ring BS and Charles Barkley face including Michael Jordan but Charles Barkley is probably the only person in history besides Allen Iverson to take a team to the finals they MVP season without another All-Star on that team look it up
Tevin McCray without Shaq Kobe wouldn’t have won 3 rings. He barely made the playoffs without him. People forget how great and dominant Shaq was he was better than Kobe and Duncan. He underachieved and still one of the greats.
Every Monday no disrespect to Shaq but Shaq won nothing before Kobe. Shaq was dominant but he had good guards before Kobe. Shaq one of my favorite players, but he did nothing with Penny or an all-star sg in LA, Eddie Jones. And Kobe won 2 without him and was the man once he got a team. Shaq won 1 while not being the man. But i agree, he's one of the greats.
Every Monday- Kobe was more significant against the real competition in the west during that 3 peat. Without Kobe, Shaq has no 3 rings. Kobe and Duncan>Shaq
I know Shaq and Chuck are friends, but in this scenario, they gave me the impression that they were arguing behind the scenes and it carried over on the air.
chuck had 0 kenny has 2 shaq has 4...makes sense that the guy in the middle can calm them down aka a role player and this is why stars dont always work..
Hey Beautiful when rings are brought up, it’s almost always a last resort type of argument when there’s nothing else to say and Kenny usually has more insight rather than resort to that
SuperPunch76 and Ernie bust it up EVERY time...if Ernie was there this would’ve got squashed quick ...this went way too far ...the last time Ernie stepped in check the tape
shaq is an idiot his entire argument is base on rings every single time, if thats the case brian scalabrine is better than Chuck which we all know is not true...
Sad people don't know who this man Barkley was as a player. In his prime definitely one of the 2 or 3 most unstoppable unguardable players I've ever seen
Yeah-- and Shaq kept cutting him off over and over and over and over and over. He has no place being on the panel-- none. It was FAR better before he had a job on it--- as Charles once mentioned on-air--------------------------------- and I don't think Charles was kidding around.
The intensity on this show is so real and raw, its just crazy! The love they got for each other is obvious to everyone, and I think thats what allows them to get into it as hard as they did in this episode, and be laughing and giggling 5 minutes later. It will be a sad day when this brotherhood gets replaced - sadly nothing lasts forever. #TeamInsideTheNBA #FanSince2003
Barkley had to go thru mj which wasn't happening, shaq basically was the favorite every year when he won, so Shaqs rings were easier than Barkley who didn't have nearly as much help and had to be the leader... gotta look at the details and context in the way shaq won and Barkley didn't.
@@Heaveaway23 The Suns choked away a 2-0 lead and a 3-1 lead against Houston back to back years. That was their golden opportunity to win a title and blew it. Those teams were better than Houston but failed because they didn’t have the killer instinct.
CycleCruza exactly, if im the raptors im trading one of them ( lowry or derozan, they both have consistently for 3 years have been a no show in the playoffs. ) i honestly i would fire the coach to, they never double teamed/trapped lebron in that whole series they let him go 1 on 1 with a rookie
I'm with him 2, I mean they came back in the 4th quarter to tie it up but lost at the last second. I can understand where chuck is coming from but at the end of the day demar disappeared in this series after game 1, so the benching was validated.
That’s why I love this show. Every other sports show you can tell already know what they are going to disagree about. These guys just speak how they feel.
B. C that's a different situation because the rockets were doing way better without harden and eventually came back and won from down 30. The raptors lost w derozan on the bench if I was the main guy of course I'd feel ways losing while on the bench
Shaq always puts down Chuck even know he's a 2-time MVP, Hall of Famer, among the 25 best players of all time, and carried the 76ers team almost by himself. Championships definitely do not reflect every players ability, and lets be honest, if Chuck had won at least 1 championship he would put on that ring and punch Shaq right in the face right now.
Chuck was wrong on this one tho. What's the point in babying a dude that doesnt deliver in the playoffs? Makes me sick the way demar and lowry wilts whenever they face lebron
Shaq is so wrong. He always gets personal, mentioning his rings! Him winning rings doesn't make everything he says gospel and nullifies Charles' argument. Moreover, he used the wrong example to "disprove" Charles' point that the coach and best player has to have a good relationship. Shaq used his relationship with Pat Riley in Miami...he wasn't the best player on that team; DWade was! If he had mention Phil Jackson or Brian Hill, then he would have discredited Charles' argument. Dude tries to use bully arguments: "i got rings so everything i say is true". Wrong! Thank God for Kenny Smith!
@Lifes a Beach actually, Shaq was sandbagged in the last Finals game. Shaq was dominant throughout the playoffs and in the Finals during Miami's first championship, until the players chose to limit Shaq's ball touches during the last game of the Finals so that he wouldn't overshadow D-Wade's finals MVP campaign. Later on, Pat Riley commented that Shaq should have more ball touches, but there was bad blood between Shaq and the other Miami players, so they had no choice but to trade him. Yes, D-Wade was a phenomenal player, but Shaq's contribution shouldn't be overlooked throughout his playing time with Miami. When they first got Shaq, their win-loss record improved by 16 wins for the regular season, and Shaq was runner-up for League MVP honors that year. And just so people won't forget the huge vacuum left by Shaq's departure from LA, the season he left the Lakers, they went from a championship contender to not even making the playoffs.
Kenny Understood both their point if views but I agree more with Shaq if Best Player not playing at the level expected of him then he need to be benched @ that moment. Dont baby best player by keeping them in when they're playing terrible. Coach has to have faith in the other teammates & players to take over or carry the team for the night. Best Player/ Superstar only human too & not go have a Great game every single night so teammates need to step up sometime..It's all a team effort to win a Game/ Championship
In Europe Demar would be benched without any discussion. Over there organization would fire coach for not benching those who can't perform. In NBA it's other way around...
J P the players aren't good because they play more it's because they have more intense personal training. In europe they have more team practices than personal training
Its because its the national buisness association, its all about ratings and money, while in europe its still about basketball but its going in a bas direction
BeefPapa Chuck raised his voice first, no? Then both yelled. But I guess there are no facts, Oscar Robertson could be better than MJ in my opinion...would be no right or wrong
But I can always pull your card and say, "it's just opinion-based, no right or wrong." By your last comment, you're tacitly saying there is a correct opinion to have...
Wow! This is the best show on American television. Let's start by acknowledging that these men know what they are talking about- they are experts in their (former) vocations. Their wonderful personalities, their strong egos, their knowledgeable and proud intellects and perspicacious wisdom and insights make "The NBA On TNT" the greatest show on earth.
Chuck is wrong, if you have demar DeRozan as your best player you will not win, and Casey realizes that. And that’s why he had no problem benching him.
Insane Sharks this is bad coaching ..need to learn this from previous 3 years .. at least someone else got a chance to lead or trade ..watch Celtics or Jazz ..if u again came up like this and believe they r different, u r wrong ..
Ranjit Binning Casey probably overachieved. he rebuilt his philosophy as a coach, they did good in the regular season but you can only do so much when your 2 best players are deathly afraid of LeBron. this is speaking only hypothetically but if you trade Demar for Oladipo and Lowry for literally any other talented PG in the league. . . raptors probably win. DeRozan has no killer in him. Lowry has always been immensely overrated. But when they see LeBron, they get on their knees. Ibaka is also garbage. The rest of that team is really good but superstars win in the playoffs. It's why the Cavs will probably sweep Boston.
Demar is dope I'd put him on my team before PG. Yall dont pay attention to the way they were guarding that man. And the way Casey made them a half court playing team ain't help demar get easy buckets or score easily. And on top of that. Their shooters weren't hitting, so the Cavs could crowd the paint. Plus if he was the type to put up 24 shots and force it. He would have probably had more points. But he isnt that type of player.
I love these heated debates on this show. It was stagnant for years until Shaq came along. He brings the same energy Chuck did 10 years ago. Fans talk about the same topics Shaq wants to discuss.
Shaq really need to put respect on Barkleys name, because Robert Horry was no Charles Barkley or a Shaq and no Jordan and he has more Rings than all of them. Rings don't mean you're the most knowledgeable basketball player you just were blessed to have things fall in place with a special collection of guys.
He was right place at right time. Robert horey earned all 9 of them rings. Without him Kobe has 3 less rings Tim Duncan has one less ring Shaq has three less rings Hakeem has none. Robert horey greatest playoff closer in NBA history
Both things need to be done He need to step up and the Coach needs to address the situation and accept that they were going to lose why not go out with the ones who brought you there
This was such good stuff. Too funny. Both were right, you get benched if you're not playing well, but a head coach has to have a good relationship with his best player.
They both are right! As a coach sometimes you need to make tough decisions and bench your best player. However, at the end of the game you need to address what you did and why you did it.
Why did Shaq get mad so quickly? Isn’t it all of their jobs to give opinions? So why can’t chuck share his as well? Shaq just immediately shut him down. Just not a mature thing to do man
Jasper Jamm I dnt think they like each other. Egos maybe. Old skool not liking new skool. Diff times for diff players. They'll never understand or agree each other due to the times are so diff.....jus agree to disagree.
actually, chuck raised his voice first (1:53), but I think he just did that to get a rise out of shaq lol. they're friends. they just keep it real with each other.
Chuck is hilarious. "I didn't have Kobe and Wade carrying me up and down the court." Those decades of basketball was legendary. MJ asked and begged for Scottie. But back then during the Ewing Barkely era those two players played straight up and with their roster. No super team.
Chuck as a Raptor fan I thank you for your support this season BUT.. you are making a mountain out of a mole. DeRozan is a constant professional and knew he did not play well and when you don't play well on this team, next man is called up. This actually happened a few times this season where DeRozan was glued to the bench because of his poor defence and another lineup worked. Nothing is broken in this relationship, please don't let TNT become like the clown on ESPN and his boxing expert buddy.
Shaq is 100% right. Stop babying these players, that's why they feel so entitled in this era. Derozan gets paid big money to perform & when he plays Lebron he doesn't. So sit down & let someone who makes less & wants to perform step up & try to get the job done. As a coach, you don't owe players anything but you give players opportunity based off performance. It's like any job you get.
david smith Of course they still would've gotten swept but this idea Barkley is saying Casey needs to apologize to Derozan is ridiculous. This is why high school & college kids feel so entitled to play because they have a ranking beside their name.
It's not about entitlement. Derozan is not an entitled guy. It's just about doing what's best for the team. Derozan was not performing so the coach had to try something else. The lineup he went to in game 3 brought them back into the game. I thought he coached a good game.
WaitA Minute so if lebrons not doing well you just gonna bench him too? Your best player needs the chance to flick the switch and make plays, as well as lead the team. I’m not saying to never bench him, but in the end your team needs that player to do it’s best. That’s why keeping a good relationship is important
Shaq doesn't know how to have a constructive debate he may have the championship rings but Chuck is the champion on that show he's one of the best out there and I put him up against anybody on any NBA talk show he's the best✌
doesn't matter if Shaq or Barkley are right or wrong. It's completely idiotic for Shaq to interject 'wrong.' 'not true.' over and over and over while another panel member tries to deliver his opinion. Shaq is an embarrassment
I like this conversation (no arguing just debate). We have 2 super players and 1 Go-Getter during Finals that know the interpersonal situations that go into building a team with leaders!! GoodTalk Guys!!❤
