Chris Condon police need more pay to strip people of their rights? Especially second amendment rights? The ATF is unconstitutional. The FOPA & NFA ban are unconstitutional. Background checks are unconstitutional. Permits and licenses are also unconstitutional. “Shall not infringe” means no restrictions. Nowhere in the western world is the police training as bad and short as in the USA. 4-6 months / 250-300 hours of training before you have the power to decide about death or life. Less then 1 week of that training is for social competence, psychology, communication and de-escalation. Just in Comparison German police 30-36 Months/4500-5000 Hours training. BTW. "Defund the police" would do the opposite ... And yes Blue life matters too, but they need to change that training. Greetings from Germany

Training is different than educating. Generally, training means teaching police officers to react to a given situation in the field. Education involves developing the mental and moral tools police officers should possess to build strong relationships with the community. It will teach police officers to think about their response to various problems based on vast amounts of knowledge and then take thoughtful action to resolve a problem. What they need is educating them on our Constitutional rights. Police officers enter their profession by taking an oath to the U.S. Constitution. So why is there no concerted effort to make police constitutionally literate? Just think about how much better the police-community relations would be if police were constitutionally literate. Constitutional literacy entails knowing the Constitution sufficiently well enough to invoke it properly. Those who take an oath to the Constitution have the responsibility to know its contents and interpretations of it, such as court decisions that are professionally relevant. There's a lot of men and women that have a career in policing without ever even reading the Constitution. So how sincere is one's oath to the Constitution if one hasn't read it or doesn't understand it? First of all, police academies should replace the standard five to six months of training with a two-year curriculum. In addition to the necessary physical, firearms, and tactics training, recruits should take classes that you might typically find in an undergraduate program - from criminal and constitutional law to sociology, psychology, and conflict resolution. A clear understanding of the nature of the society they will serve, and all its complexities are fundamental to any member of a service profession. By doing a simple search on RU-vid and watching a few videos of "First Amendment Audits" you can plainly see how ignorant most police officers are when it comes to our rights. So more education is needed, not just training. www.policechiefmagazine.org/education-offers-best-solution-for-police-misconduct/

what i find interesting about officers and military is how well i can read them. their training shows so well. many have a very similar mindset. one thing ive learned is dont underestimate thier intelligence or their drive. they go through this hellish training for a reason. but ive also found in my own personal experience is that 1 of 4 people generally come out of that training and out of service. hardened strong people with a strong sense of morality. strict unbendable people who follow what they feel is right regardless of the reality of their beliefs broken men who are scared and traumatized and trying to leanr how to be a person...or dead men. this is why as much as i might want to i will never join LEO. i dont want to change. im bitter enough...i dont wanna have to hurt someone. i cant. great respect to LEOs everywhere

The problem is this the balance. Academies are supposed to be challenging no doubt. Physical fitness, handling stress, and highly competent educated officers in civil rights, constitution, and criminal law are the hallmarks of well prepared officers. Not so big on the "military" or boot camp style training. Policing has evolved in the 21st century whereby police officers are EXPECTED to assume a more human services role due to rise in contacts related to mental health, substance abuse, and other social challenges. Expectations of following a chain of command, respect of your senior officers and command staff, and all that stuff can be accomplished without necessity of a "military" style boot camp. These are public service positions, the goal is to keep all safe. Public safety and law enforcement IS NOT military or combat work. Support our officers yes but when you militarize police forces you are fogging the mindset, the unintended consequence of the militarization of civilian police departments is an us against them mentality. This mentality is unsafe for not just police but the civilians they serve as well.

A lot of physical training and getting proficient in shooting a gun, but no constitutional training or the civil rights of the public, that seems to be what is lacking.

Its funny Sac PD is hiring but you can't get even get a lousy civilian job with Sac Sheriff. Five times in five years I applied for the Sheriff Security Officer position and still haven't heard nothing from the Sacramento sheriff department.

For all those who have already been thru the academy in other states recently, does this seem similar, is it accurate and same for almost all academy? Or is it just this one academy that is this "harsh" per say. ( An army like training, the strictness, the yelling ) Let me know :)

Yes, it might change per department. But it’s not all just fun in games or, back to school boys! It ain’t like that

Ive already dealt with boot camp, I am good. I don't need someone getting in my face screaming "half right face, front leaning position move".
@adilmohamedahmed6424

When I went an Army Boot Camp, there was a Navy E-6 and an Air-force E-7 in my platoon who had to go through all the getting in your face, drop and the front leaning position that we the junior enlisted soldiers had to go through. Even if they’re not happy about it as they’ve done in the past but there was no go around to accomplish their goals; proud of them!
