Bathing in geothermal pools is a ritual you can’t miss if you come to Iceland. This video shows you two very different ways to experience this very Icelandic tradition at the Silica Hotel and at the Blue lagoon, where I stayed for two nights. The Silica Hotel is built around a beautiful blue hot spring - and it’s an oasis of understated - and inspiring - Scandinavian design. But if you don't have the budget for a fancy hotel - we’ve got you covered with the next best thing - the Blue Lagoon - not quite as calm but still a very nice experience.
There are three options if you are interested in the The Blue Lagoon: the main lagoon is open to the public, then there’s the Silica Hotel that we also cover in this video, plus the Retreat Hotel - a super exclusive - and expensive - hotel that the Swank Guide thinks is the best hotel in Iceland and we take you inside our stay at the Retreat in a different video that’s linked below. [link coming in Dec 2022]
The architecture of the Silica Hotel is understated Scandinavian design that works so well in the lava fields around the hotel.

Never thought I'd want to go, but this changed my mind about chilly destinations! Superb!!

Places like this should be available to all as affordable spas with massage, exercise, and healing food, instead of privately owned elite resorts with alcohol. I love the rooms.

Wouldn’t that be nice. If you look at my Greenhouse hotel in Iceland review I highlighted a public pool and natural spring so they do exist in Iceland

Silica not as fancy as the Retreat - but much more reasonably priced and really good i think.

I’ve decided that taking Iceland air is the way to go to get to Frankfurt and get a little jet lag off before I go to Germany to visit my friends.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I will be staying at the Silica Hotel in some weeks and cannot wait for it! Do guests get a silica mask at the private lagoon?

I am planning to visit on 31 Oct for one night stay. My flight arrives in KEF airport at 2.30pm. Do you think it’s worth it to stay there for one night as I will be checking in earliest at 4 plus 5pm.
@SwankGuide
@SwankGuide Год назад
If you are leaving early next day prob not - kind of depends on the rate. Maybe check out hotel 101 in Reykjavik, and splurge on a nice meal (they have a great restaurant that's around the corner) and do the thermal baths at Sky Lagoon.... all of that will probably be less than the Silica. Just a thought

Would you say this its worth staying on my last two days in iceland or just doing 1 night. Also were you able to see the Northern Lights?
@SwankGuide

See my Iceland experiences video for N lights advice. If N lights are out you can see from there. 1 night seems rushed but depends how long you are in Iceland. Have fun

If you could choose to spend a full day and a night the retreat or silica which would it be? And is the price difference worth it? Thanks in advance!
@SwankGuide
@SwankGuide 10 месяцев назад
Honestyly I dont think the price differce is worth it... I'd stay at the Silica... it's 85% as good at maybe at 40% of the cost. You could book dinner at the reataruant at the Retreat to kind of get that Retreat experience. I think you can book the Retreat spa sperately too. Have fun.

When’s the best time to go to Iceland and experience the lagoons?
@SwankGuide
@SwankGuide Год назад
Hmmm... I'd say October through April - I say that b/c it can get warm in the summer at times - and I dont think I'd love the lagoons when it's warmish out (of course that's relative - it;'s Iceland after all). Thanks for watching [by the way I was there in October - good month b/c fewer tourists and weater can still be good some days.
