@@chillee2531 Many of the bath stone quarries within the area really are not safe, sections of box Freestone, and half of swan for example, others have collapsed to the extent of preventing access now (brewers yard). Most are somewhat stable but there must always be consideration for collapses. Literally the other day, after 20 years of exploring box Freestone we found our first definite new collapse. A place we used to be able to stroll right past. Don't get me wrong, it's only approx half a tonne of subsidence but it's an insight. Most of the collapses have been 20+tonne😳 and take some doing to navigate over. A good few of these quarries have actually been worked for over a thousand years+ with some being Roman and some being Saxon (the Saxons weren't known to have mined underground though).

I grew up here near the Nevada Test Site and my dad's (RIP 2011) best friend (not going to say his name) used to be the communications guy out there in the 90s and has since moved up into more secure position out there, likely because he's not the type of guy who needs to brag about his job or the events he has undoubtedly experienced while performing his job - just an all-round cool guy who has his shit together.. Anyway, at some point before my dad passed away (murdered, actually) he had been visiting with this guy, his best friend, during which they had some drinks and were shootin the shit and apparently they were being more than usual open with the other about things like dealing with their spouse, dissatisfaction with certain outcomes of their lives and just kinda one of those especially deep conversations that we sometimes have with our most trusted friends of many years.. Well, my dad said he took the opportunity while they were being candid with the other to ask him about his job and if there were actually aliens there - Goddamn, it still gives me chills to this day years later the way he described his friend's reaction - apparently, his buddy told him, very matter-of-factly: "Mike, I assure you that there's no aliens out there and anyone who says different is just kidding you or lying for attention.. There aren't any aliens and I seriously doubt that there ever _were_ any out there.. Personally, and this is just speculation - not something I'd be privy to in my humble capacity as coms director - but I think if there ever _were_ that type of thing there, they haven't been there for decades.. But that's just my guess, ya know.." My dad said that being his best friend for over 20 years, he was able to read between the lines of that statement and basically confirmed that there were beings there from a crash in New Mexico but as soon as Bob Lazar had went to the media out here in Vegas they loaded them shits up and shipped their asses outta there lickety split! To anyone that grew up in Vegas or Southern Nevada in general, the "Test Site" was whispered about while to the rest of the country it was merely bombing range and former testing facility for nuclear weapons, until that dude hit the news about what else was going on there.. Pretty much unheard of outside of Southern Nevada until then which was 1988 the year my family moved here and I was 8 yrs old and that's also the year my dad met his buddy at their job installing and repairing high-end audio equipment..

Probably to Greenham Common arguably the real UK 'Area 51' that connects with many Wiltshire,Berkshire facilities such as Porton/Boscombe Down,Rutherford/Aldermaston nuke facilities and many more.

My first adventures there were through Jack's and we were so spangles, I'm surprised we didn't die🤣 never bothered with maps, I enjoy the unknown too much and even maps are a bit detracting. Very big mines indeed! Can be quite nerve wracking if you are hours into it and get disoriented. I can basically navigate it with my eyes closed these days

Yeah... It's Box Railway Tunnel 😂 Nothing secret about that, thousands of people travel through it everyday. The CAD siding next to it (that leads to the underground station) has been sealed for years.

@@andban92 because, partially, inside Tunnel Quarry sits the CCC. That's the main reason. Plus health and safety, security concerns for the base above, it's used for training from time to time etc etc.

Years ago I remember being told the the Great Western Railway built tunnels branching off the main line in Box Tunnel as part of the emergency reserve and they had a station and a large number of sidings for handling food and munitions. it was also stated that many locomotives were stored for use in case of invasion. These tunnels would have fanned out from a point and you can see the pattern in the buildings along the curved roads. Looking on Google earth it looks like the whole area lies within a circle with a big roundabout at its centre. One of the big ventilation shafts lies on the direct line of Box Tunnel so it is probably a railway shaft.
