“I don’t let the cost of the material determine the quality of the art” well said.

Great! I also love the Gees Bend creativity.. Quilts made from their authentic hearts. Love all your prints here, esp the one with the veil of iridescent white. Thank you ❤

The Gees Bend artists, in the traditional manner, made quilts out of bits of fabric at hand, for example, from worn out pieces of clothing. As you mentioned regarding choosing paint, they did not choose or buy expensive fabric, but very practically used what they had at hand. (Reuse at its best!) They were very creative with how they used their materials. Admirable, I think.

Gee’s Bend quilts have always been a great source of inspiration for me - thank you for sharing your tribute to their work. I am learning so much from your videos, and from Kate Word, who is a big fan girl of yours as well!

Murphy’s Oil Soap mixed with water makes a very good way to clean the plate. I also use bowl of the stuff to clean brayers. The Murphy’s has some oil in it, so using it to clean off plate adds a little bit of oil to the surface.

I love the quilts of Gee's Bend. A quilt in a display at a recent show of quilts at the American Folk Art museum was remarkably Mark Rothko-like. Or Mark Rothko was inspired by faded Amish quilts.

I try to guess what color you'll use next. I am often- well usually - wrong. I often think "Oh, no! What is he thinking!" But then the result will be so uniquely beautiful. That's why you are the artist and I'm here sitting on my tush watching you. 🤣

I'm a recent subscriber and thank you for the instruction you offer. I've done collage for years and find gel printing is helping with loosening up my work with collage. Already I feel I've had some successes with this new medium.

AT 16:40 you remind the viewer who queried your choice of 'student' grade - reminds me of the words 'price is what you pay, value (i.e. utility), is what you get!' I fear many don't seem to live in the light of your wisdom and those from someone just cited! I am enjoying this session of your artistry and creativity - crafting together with and via your chosen materials. Love it!

That's the effect of the Mars black Blickcrylic mixing with the raw sienna through a brayer. They both contain a lot of extenders which create that effect.

Can you reveal your recipe for your soap spray for cleaning the plate? I usually use packing tape to remove paint from my plate. Also, I love your videos and am now addicted. I will be promoting you to my thousands of newsletter subscribers next week and also blogging about you. I'm a New Yorker (now living in Denver) and a fiber artist so loved your inspiration for this video. Thanks for being such an inspiration to us all and sharing your creative process.

Wow, a fellow New Yorker! You know that saying you can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl! Thanks so much for watching and sharing with your friends. There's no specific recipe for the soapy water spray, I just fill the spray bottle 3/4 full, then add the dish liquid, about 3 to 4 tablespoons, shake and you're all set. I recommend oiling the plate frequently with baby oil to condition it. It won't tear the paper as much if you do that.

How long are you leaving the wc paper on for? I have a lot of cold pressed, switched to hot press with my art a long time ago. I buy it by the roll.

I do 5 to 7 minutes tops. You will need to do tests because everyone's situation is different.

Silly question time - are your guides set up so the piece has a slightly deeper white margin at the bottom than the top?
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 Год назад
I do that on purpose to accommodate the title, edition number ( in this case 1/1) and my signature. Traditionally in printmaking it is signed in pencil. Don't ask me why but that's how it's done.
@CathSheard
@CathSheard Год назад
I do it too but couldn’t tell from your set up.
@artwhisperer88
@artwhisperer88 Год назад
@@CathSheard btw I sign when the piece is sold. I've had requests from buyers who prefer a landscape orientation to the usual portrait mode. Since the piece is abstract it works either way.

what weight paper are you using to cut the shapes. Is it copy paper or card stock?

the elongated shapes are card stock, oval shapes are thin plastic dividers
