That just made people drop him. Also people in red ranks play Anna a good amount actually. And she is pretty freaking strong.
In Tekken's earlier days, they used more real life-inspired characters to get people's attention. Now that they're well known in pop culture, they have more freedom to explore different looks and original designs. I like the homages and the new fighters. I just hope that as Tekken grows, they bring back some fan favorites and develop the personalities of certain characters.

Totally agree with your last point. I would strongly prefer characters based on real life martial artists, even if there is some overlap (having two or three characters using Chinese martial arts for example). I've really grown to appreciate characters like Alisa or Chloe, (took a while), but at the end of the day I'm most mesmerized by characters who make the fights genuinely flashy and entertaining like Feng or Steve.
I Stopped at Alisa. The whole argument "A robot chick is the most un-tekken like character ever" is absolute bullshit, you have Jack who is also a complete robot, Mokujin a walking dummy that copies others styles, Panda and Kuma who are clever animals with fighting styles and they even had a dinosaur and a boxing kangaroo. Lets not get started on the Mishima bloodline filled with devils... Tekken is trying to create their OWN characters and branch off the copies from real life inspirations. I think this is good as it will allow tekken to get their own characters that are iconic to their story.

You missed Baek Do San. He is actually inspired by a Taekwondo Master and Actor, Hwang Jang Lee. As for new characters, I really want to see an Iko Uwais inspired character. Pencak Silat is a pretty cool Martial Art. And The Raid movies are fucking awesome. I also wanna see Donnie Yen but not as Ip Man. I want to see him as his characters in Special ID, Flashpoint or Kung Fu Jungle.

Josie was such a missed opportunity. She could have used some awesome philipino martial art. Instead she seems like a random collection of bland kicks and punches. (which is what mostly all the newcomers seem like to me tbh.)

The new characters in Tekken 7 we're mainly designed around bringing in new people. Hence why they all tend to have much more shallow movelists then legacy characters. And some in particular are geared towards certain groups like Claudio and Chloe for anime fighters and weebs, Shaheen for their middle east audience, Kazumi for long time fans, Akuma and Eliza for 2D fighting game fans etc.
and they failed at this.most people play the meta. pro player make the meta. pros don't pick a character for its looks but for how good it plays,this why we for the most part see maybe 10 character played over and over. its clear that by this point (tekken 7) the team that worked on 1-6 is for the most parts gone. hope they wont do he same shit in 8 if there even be 8

Gigas uses A brute force based fighting style , used by The jacks which have existed since the first game. Its a game, we cant expect everything to be realistic . How combos isnt realistic , right ? I live in the Philippines and I practice Escrima/Kali to be more specific the Balintawak variation. Her moves consist mostly of Kick Boxing and Muay Thai, for example are her elbow strike she uses are just basic strikes nothing really specific to any martial arts. Also while attacking she should be doing triangle movement and she shouldn't be bouncing. She doesn't do any trapping moves, she doesn't block using her forearm and elbow, she doesn't do any disarming/destruction strikes. Lack of groin shots, also her lows are not really unique to any martial arts.

If Yoshimitsu, Jack, any of of the devils, Alex/Roger, Ogre/True Ogre/, and Jinpachi didn't exist until Tekken 6 onward, I'd say you have a point, but it's clear that for all of the inspirations they had from real people and fighting styles, the devs clearly had their fun too. You don't have to like the new characters, but the "good ol days" weren't that different.
You don't have t be indoctrinated with anime tropes to "get" characters like Yoshimitsu, Jack, the animals and the montsters. But you do with the new charcters from T6-7 minus Zafina and Leo.
i am also having a hard time liking the new fighters because for me its all about style and gameplay. for example claudio.... what is this thing he is doing? he hop kicks you...then he is juggling you with an open palm like he is slapping someones ass.... what is it? those things just dont look like martial arts or any fighting that makes sense. lucky chloe is another example, what are those open palm upwards things she is doing? i just cant relate to all those things they dont look like fghting

IMO they are trying to advance more and more towards the 2D fighter chaos. i think maybe the new developers are fans of 2D fighters because this is what they bring into the game. the 2D nonesense of characters flying around everywhere like a fly and doing all kindz of crazy things. this is the reason why i cant relate to 2D fighters. hell, i even have a hard time relate to injustice because once again the moves look wierd and too fast like you cant understand what the hell just happened. to me virtua fighter and tekken were always the games i liked because of that. you know what, even dead or alive and even bloody roar were games i enjoyed because of that. but right now tekken is slowly going away to those anime style fighting and i persoanlly dont like it at all
Claudios fighting style is based on a fiction based movie his style is Sirius Magic or somet like that and Lucky Chloe is a competitor Against Overwatchs D.Va... I miss Baek, Armor King, Marduk, Christie, Julia, Roger, Bruce, Wang, Ganryu and Bruce without them there's a hole in my heart but they need a DLC based off of 2 WWE wrestlers from Nowadays but change the names and all that... IDK to rival with King
I actually really like the new characters. They went away from the traditional martial arts style and went more in the direction of "fighting style by character design". It makes the characters feel more colorful and alive in my opinion. And due to that the movesets have a good variation too with uncommonly seen fighting styles which kinda works really good.
Feng Wei fighting style is Jet Li, but his face and appearance is Chi Kuan Chun. Think about it especially with the rings around his arms. Look him up. I can say the same thing about Lei Wu Long his appearance , drunken style is indeed Jackie Chan, but his 5 pattern style fist is definitely Chi Kuan Chun.
This video is basically knocking newer characters for not being a direct copy of something else. Isn't it better if a character design is more original and not a rehash of something that's been done before? I agree that some of the newer characters are lame, but not for the reason you think so. E.g. the thing I don't like about Jozie is her personality. That crying shit is annoying and stupid. But her look is fine. She's a Filipino girl who does kickboxing. There's nothing wrong with that. If she had a more appealing personality, she would be a much better character. Tekken fans tend to be bias over whatever the hell is old. Sure, a lot of older Tekken characters had more realistic fighting styles. But I'd hardly call the likes of Yoshimitsu, Kuma, Roger, or Jack realistic. Yoshimitsu is just as guilty as Alisa. Jack is just as guilty as Gigas. You only like Jack and Yoshimitsu more because of nostalgia.

Yoshimitsu is a pretty silly character. With nonsensical spin attacks, teleportation, healing by meditating, balance on his sword aswell as using it as a helicopter. And one of his character traits on his character bio is that he "likes arcade games".. So yeah, this dude dont know what is talking about. Tekken is not a franchise that has ever taken itself seriously

Well. Mma is big now. Mma would be OP in tekken 7. Think about it. Their martial arts is too well rounded in terms of ground game and strikes. So if they add Chars based on real fighters. Would have to be fighters from the past. Which had styles that likely wouldn't work if tekken resembled irl. So they seem to be trying to go the "fantasy" route

A said to be kick boxer but moves or play nothing like one. Paul is a kick boxer, you feel like playing a Kickboxer when you pick paul. Feels playing a Kungfu master when you pick Lei or wang. Miguel is a brawler and completely feels like one when playing him. No vibes like that when playing Josie.
You sir have summed up what I have been saying about Tekken for years. All of Tekken 7's new characters are boring, uninspired stereotypes that bring nothing new or interesting to the table. And, I feel the same about Alisa too. I was fine with Lars. He actually fits the Tekken aesthetic and has a cool fighting style. Alisa on the other hand with the wings and the chainsaws is just ridiculous. They went too overboard with her. Her design got better in Tekken 7. But, I'm still not a big fan of her mainly because of her ridiculous fighting style. And, it seems like ever since she came along, all of the new characters in Tekken 7 has followed suit. I would love to see a Donnie Yen, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Robin Shou, or a lot of other martial artists in a new Tekken game. The series is really lacking it right now.
