Very moving story. My prayer is with them as they prepare for the difficult days ahead. My father had this disease for 15 years and I became very close with him as his care provider.

My Husband died from fast progressing alzihmer almost 3 yrs. ago. It was a horrible time! I wasn't prepared at all for what was coming. One day everything was normal and then boom! The rug was pulled from under my feet! I had a Husband one day, but then he turned into someone I didn't know anymore! He died 3mos. after he took ill. I had no idea he was going to die until the Doctor called one day saying she was having a Hospice bed to our home. I thought it was because my Husband was not able to walk, but she said for me to be prepared because it would be quick! He died in 3 days. Still hard to believe!

I've seen people suffer for years and years and years from Alzheimer's or a form of dementia and I would consider your husband lucky. Even though it went fast, he didn't have to suffer like so many do. It is shocking that it went so fast but he's free and not suffering. When they are dementia or Alzheimer's for years and years it is incredibly hard on the family to see their loved ones go through that. My husband's father suffered for years and years and could have lived longer but his hand was finally taken and he got to have a heart attack when he was 86 that took his life and suffering.

He is right about the not getting over stressed thing; stress causes release of cortisol and adrenaline; and these two hormones play a role in dementia.

Are you saying Canadians don't care about themselves? Some time ago, I lived in Vancouver for a year and I found most Canadians pretty much like us down here in the States. Some selfless, some selfish, some good, some evil, some interesting and some complete bores. Same ol[, Same ol'

I couldn't contain myself after watching this short video. Short, but hit home majorly on ONE word that is the best medicine that helps the one who are suffering with the disease and family members caring for the individual - LOVE!! It is a challenge indeed, but with the support of excellent groups like Alzheimer Society of Calgary and those associated with it, I now have hope to have the information and support needed to understand better how we can as a family (Both caregivers & our family member with the disease) can battle this aweful disease, and live the best way we can, not abandon my parent, plan for the future, and make wise decisions so as not to frustrate, anger, and depress my parent. But make them feel secure, loved, and not like their world is caving in on them. I go shortly for my first appointment this afternoon, and look forward to meeting the people behind this wonderful provision made for people to councel, encourage, educate, and support people like me. I've taken I feel a longer time to finally do this when I feel I should of acted sooner. But there is still time. Thankyou for your services.
