Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem, replacing the lens is probably more expensive than the lens itself, which can be purchased from GoPro or DJI. You can also replace them with ND filters, polarizing filters, etc. . For me, this is a serious and big drawback, just like it happened with hero 8 and dji action 2, and as we remember, these cameras sold poorly compared to older/younger models.
Wow, i always used gopro, since 3, recently bought a 11, but my next certainly will be the insta 360, leica lens are awesome, i tried then with panasonic ts2 and the photos and footages are stunning ... If gopro don't make a great changes in hero 13, they will pass away
really badly needed this camera clearly the best right now...just the non replaceable lens though..its an "action" camera, i would not worry about getting it scratched if i have an extra lens available and be able to replace it right away
Bought in October Hero 12, trading hero 9 at best buy... probably hero 12 will be my last action camera from GoPro... SAD to admit it. I've been using GoPro since the very first camera HERO HD motorsports.. The juice that they want to milk from customers is beyond disgraceful, giving none of the new inventions...
Excellent comparison review! Low light stabilization in pure video mode is a game changer. If it only had horizon lock in pure video mode I’d consider replacing GoPro 12 (+ max lens mod 2) for MTBing.
2 or 3 points were given to the newcomer when they could have been given to the other too... and when they clearly should have been given to GoPro, a draw was given...(For example: 2,7K/240fps GoPro setting is absolutely better than Insta). Even with the GoPro application you can download videos in the background... etc... Money tips the scales wherever you want ..... but there was no need! Insta would still have won in comparison, albeit by a smaller margin!
"...then the GoPro is a good alternative." Wow, that's the first time I heard someone say that the GoPro is now considered an alternative. Insta360 came out of nowhere, then punched GoPro in the face.😂 GoPro is left with zero front teeth.😵💫
Both cameras have their own strengths, and on paper Ace Pro seems to be more advanced. We wont know for sure until people have had time to use it properly though
The GoPro Hero 10 now is $250. I think it is the best compromise for the money. I have the 10 and the 11. This insta360 is appealing. But the hinged popup screen makes me wonder how it can keep water resistance in the long run. The hinges must have some seals, and flipping the screen up and down won’t eventually wear out the seals?
@@EJSchumanin the USA the Hero 10 was just on sale for $249 with additional accessories, 2nd battery etc. I have the Hero 11, hard to see any IQ difference. When I had issues with a GoPro with accidental damage, they honored the coverage even if 1 month out. The customer service seems better than its competitors. But the DJI Action 4 larger sensor is tempting. But 5.3K allows to get high resolution still photos from movie footage. For 250 dollars you get the same image quality or almost in most real life situations.
@@stefpix a big part for me was photos and the action 4 at 12MP just doesn't cut it. Also good point about customer service they'll send a new one to subscribers for $100 which is sweet!
@@EJSchuman i take photos in the ocean. The GoPro allows burst of 3/5 raw photos in a second which helps capture sea. life. The quality and resolution is pretty decent. Few reviews highlight this. Even 5.3k scren grabs are higher resolution of dji stills. The Action doesn't have burst mode for still photos
Thanks for the great comparison between the Go Pro and the Ace Pro. I currently have a GoPro Hero 8, most people have problems with overheating cut off. I have an additional problem with mine, it will automatically turn on and then when I want to use it, the battery is either dead or near dead. Issues alone with GoPro is causing me to switch, however as you clearly point out, the Ace Pro is better in many ways. This video was the final piece of evidence needed for me to retire the GoPro, and move into the Insta360 Ace Pro. A unbiassed comparison, thank you.
Always enjoy your videos and you do a great job. I would like to request you also compare the day 2 side of the cameras. How they handle warranty and extended care coverage. Being action cameras, they are going to get damaged and need to be replaced. Also comparing how they handle the complete care for when you break one and need it replaced.
How did you get gopro to not overheat? So many people i know have problem of it overheating in 5 minutes. Tested one myself and it lasted 10 minutes at 20 degrees. Had a scuba diver in cold water it overheated for him in 4 minutes or so..
Since GoPro doesn't listen to their customer, Insta360 did. The camera is almost, almost perfect. The ace pro 2 will be a heavy KO for gopro, when they get a little wider field of view and a removable lens cap. Great Job Insta360 !!
the Action 4 continues to have significant advantages vs. the Ace Pro and equally trounces the Hero 12. I really think the coming years battles will be between DJI and Insta360 unless GoPro pulls off a come from behind miracle.
Have to wait for the real reviews for things like how much recording time with different size sd cards... With my hero 11 i can record for 10.5 hours continuously at 4k 24fps for fishing on a kayak. You have to do this or you miss action..
What's strange is I tried searching for a video with the Insta360 Ace Pro recording live music (a band or acoustic players) and there isn't one (or none that came up in a cursory search). Maybe you could be the first! Thank you the concise review.
Many times I went down with my gopro mounted while MTBing without any damages. I need a tough/durable camera and time will tell if the 360 is the new one. I like the AI features on the 360 for sure.
Thanks for the comparison video. How would the GoPro Max stack up against these? Can you comment on which style of camera is best for capturing Onewheel or other skateboard rides? (Insta 360 Ace Pro vs. X3, or GoPro Hero 12 vs. Max)?
i noticed that for action cams to not overheat easily, you just don't let the action cam compress the video files that much, the action 4 goes up to 120Mbps and this new insta360 ace pro goes even higher to 170Mbps while the gopro lets you choose between 60Mbps or 100Mbps for 4k videos.
This new camera could be my next one except 1 thing.i have a gp1 and insta360 go 2 in the 360 app it only allows 30 clips to be edited at one time,i wonder if this has changed for the ace pro
Thank you for your video. Have you tested it under water, especially salt water up to 10 meters? I am wondering if the flip screen it tight in water as the Gopro is.
Both cameras have their own strengths, and on paper Ace Pro seems to be more advanced. We wont know for sure until people have had time to use it properly though
I really like the Insta 360, but lets be honest, its nowhere near to Gopro's destruction. The insta 360 is clearly better in low light- no doubt about it. Also it is also not blowing out highlihts that much, which is really nice too, but what else? Flip screen? Its nice ( maybe), but for an action camera its also a downside! What kind of " action" you gonna be filming with the screen flipped up? Maybe vloging, but not some real action... I see that majority of the features higlihted in these reviews are more important for vlogging ... like who cares about the zoom in action camera? The other thing - Gopro has this replaceble lens, so if you scratch , you can replace it. All action cameras should have this! Insta doesnt have that... I would really buy the Insta360 ace pro, but for travel/vlogging videos, not for action.. For action there are Gopro and DJI oSMO 4 IMHO
Hi, thanks for the review. I have X3 and gopro 12, really good cameras in blue sky. But in a grey day, none of these cameras shine. They don´t show the color at all as I see it. Is it possible to fix in camera without post production. Maybe a review of ace and gopro 12 on grey sky days, to see if ace pro would be something to have.
@@MountMediaChannel Thanks! I use vivid/vibrant most of the time and HDR, but when it´s grey it seems like it´s better to go without HDR. But X3 and gopro 12 is not so good on grey days. Iphone 15 pro max is much better on grey days.
Yes, it appears to be a great camera, but I've got two more categories to add: -Software Stability: Is the Insta360 Ace Pro capable of providing a continuous glitch/crash-free experience? -Continuous Recording: Is the Insta360 Ace Pro capable of providing continuous and smooth recording for over 29 minutes? Coming from an Insta360 One R 1", an Insta360 One RS 4K Boost Lens, and an Insta360 Go2, my biggest issues are their glitches/crashes and, when it comes to One R/RS, the inability to record continuous video for more than 29 minutes, at which point the camera stops recording for about 30 seconds (One RS) or more (One R) and then resumes, and this is unacceptable for the type of content that I'm creating, and the main reason I opted for GoPro (Hero 10/12 and Max) and DJI (Osmo Action 2/3 and Osmo Pocket 2/3) and have put all of my Insta360 cameras on sale. If Insta360 finally found a solution to these two issues, then I will consider it as a viable option for my content creation needs.
For the apps, no crash occurs, its very stable.... concernening overheating, like mentionnend in the video, the Ace pro can record as long the battery is not empty.... Far better than gropro
@@teofilol2666 Didn't you read my comment? I said "record continuous video for more than 29 minutes, at which point the camera stops recording for about 30 seconds (One RS) or more (One R) and then resumes." Unlike DSLR and Mirrorless cameras, which stop recording and you need to press the Record button again, they simply do that: stop recording for a few seconds and then begin recording again, which means, I can make an Insta360 camera record ALMOST continuously, but they omit this fact, that it is ALMOST continously. All Insta360 can record continuously for more than 1 hour, and both my Insta360 One R and One RS can do that, BUT, unlike GoPro and DJI cameras, they stop for a few seconds every 29 minutes, which makes them not ideal for people like me, who make a specific type of video. Imagine spending $500+ in order to make driving videos that each lasts for 1+ hour and then realizing that the camera suddenly stops every 29 minutes while you're still driving, essentially ruining your video. This is what I want to know, and I want a straight answer, not listen for if's and but's. Insta360 is notorious and all of its cameras do exactly that: stop for a few seconds every 29 minutes, and I've already spent more than $1,000 on Insta360 cameras that can't fulfil their purpose because I listened to some RU-vidr or another saying that they are perfect and GoPro killers when they simply can't record continuous video like GoPro and DJI cameras do.
A non-removable lens cover and also don't have a preview in front screen, that makes that I don't will buy ace pro. When I have the camera in a floaty, I will not be able to preview my self. Going to keep record with gopro and x3, a great combo, just wish that x3 had the same quality as gopro. Thanks for doing this comparison, all sponsored videos did not mention all the things you sad, they missed the bad things!
8k isn't available yet? So, it can't be called 8k just yet. No GPS built in, that sucks and the only way to get it is to buy another expensive accessory to lose. No removable lens cover - so if it breaks you're screwed. They didn't learn from GoPros mistake apparently. No protective casing included for the pointless flip novelty. I don't have time to flip the camera to check my makeup while doing 122 miles an hour at the track. No threated bottom either, they make you get an accessory for that. ALL of this for way more than the gopro 11. I say 11 because the 12 is trash and doesnt have GPS anymore.
Great to see competition grow in this space. Disappointed the Max Mod 2.0 was not not featured in the comparison though. As great as the Ace is, I am terrible at framing my ski runs. I like the idea of using a hero 12 with the max mod 2 to compensate for that. That said, I haven't purchased either yet. Waiting for more amateur footage to be posted on RU-vid in the coming weeks.
@@retroonhisbikes I’m sure some company will make ND filters for it. There were some made for the GoPro 8. It’s just a way for the company to force their customers to buy the Insta360 Care like GoPro did.
@@ZanderRound no it doesn’t. With my GoPro I can remove the lens cover and put on a macro lens or anamorphic lens. So it’s not just a cover that might get broken.
