I remember when you could have plugged a camera to a PC and transfer files. No questions asked. Now you need pods, dongles and apps.

You can still do that, but this has internal storage as its so small and to make life easier you can buy a tiny micro sd card quick reader to transfer whilst travelling without the need to have your PC with you.

You still can! The Action Pod that the GO 3S fits into and which comes with the camera has a USB-C port and of course you can plug it into a computer and transfer files. The idea here is having a way to clear and dump files off the internal storage of the GO 3S (which is not removable or expandable) on the go so that you can clear space to shoot more video. The 128GB model of the 3S holds a bit over 2 hours of video (2:20 I think?) so if you are on a week trip WITHOUT a computer and don't want to transfer to a mobile device, this gives you an easy way to dump files off to the SD card in the quick reader and free the space to keep shooting.

I like black too, but then the office is dark, I seem to loose my cell phone once or twice a week. I set it down on a dark black table, it turns off and now it has become invisible (FACT) So having the pod white is good for the fact I will not go invisible on the desk. I have a white GO3 and a black GO3s. Both are stuck to the metal shelf under my monitor, I had to do a double take just now to make sure the black GO3s was still in the office under the monitor :) My Insta360 GO 3S Quick Reader finally arrives today... White or black I'm looking forward to getting it and using it. Thanks for the video.

Once you connect the quick reader to an iPhone or iPad, can the Instagram 360 app recognize the files on the SD card for edits? Also, does the quick reader export files to the SD card in the same quality they were recorded (2.7K, 4K)?

Hi is quick reader a lot faster with transfering videos to mobile or is the same speed as using WiFi/Bluetooth? Sometimes it takes ages transfer bigger size of video 😤

Imagine if this reader was build as a mount so you could have it mounted ex. on the motorbike and power it by USB. Gee, you could drive around for hours and have it ready to film ! So close and yet so far. One female USB-C would be enough. Lighting connector is dead anyway.

I was curious if you could just buy the Go 3s with the adapter but according to their website, the Go 3s MUST be paired with a pod. I wish that wasn´t the case. I would like the 3s but have absolutely zero use for the pod.

Yes, I think the GO 3S needs to be activated with the pod. I think. You can buy the GO 3S without the pod and use the pod from the GO 3, but I think you need a pod to activate it. I use it 99% of the time without the pod myself.

That quick reader is a great idea, game changer, wonder if it will work with the X4 as well as the Ace Pro in the same way, that would be awesome. A mobile dockable usb storage key!

It’ll copy over any micro sd card from any camera to your computer or the Insta360 app, so that’s pretty cool! It saved my ass a few times in the last two weeks so it’s definitely something I can highly recommend.

@@PhillipSkraba Yah, was wondering if they will update X4/Ace Pro to connect and download via USB like the GO 3s does, this would reduce constantly removing the SD Card in and out. I know X4/AP has their 'own' quick readers but you have to remove battery door and plug it in like module. A feature like this would be a great for travel/storage.

I think that would be hard due to the fact that both the X4 and Ace Pro have usb-c ports that are not flush with the camera, so the usb-c connection on the quick reader wouldn't be able to fully enter.

@@PhillipSkraba hmm... so when you slide the usb plug out it's not long enough. I have a USB male to female short cable that would work, i use it for the ace pro quick reader so i don't have to keep dismounting the sd card lol

No. It needs the adaptor to connect to.

Can the camera record while it is being charged by the quick reader? If yes, does it matter if the quick reader is plugged in or can it record just piggybacking off of the quick reader's internal battery? thanks if you can answer this! I have a bunch of people wondering!

I'm afraid not, no. It connects and charges, apart from charging and downloading footage to the Micro SD card installed in the quick reader you can't do anything else. The actual quick reader does not have an internal battery, hence the need to connect it to a power source. For me personally it's been very useful when it came to charging the GO 3S and downloading footage as there were a few times I forgot to take the pod with me on a trip whilst on Lanzarote.

Yeah, unfortunately no battery in the quick reader, which is a shame as then you could really download your footage anywhere.

im more interested in the quick reader than the 3s. Being a go 3 owner, i'm not exactly thrilled with the prospect of dumping files more often as a result of upgrading to 4k video, only to post to social media at 1080p 😅

Well, it’s not too bad really. I spent 2 weeks, morning to evening filming a LOT of footage and most of the time I’d offload to the laptop at the end of the day. I filmed all in 4K, and I post export everything in 4K. The reader came in handy when I forgot to take the pod with me 😂 It saved my day! It also allowed me to charge the GO 3S 🚀

@@PhillipSkraba Usually takes me about an 1 hour via. Wifi to export 1440P/Max bit/frame rate freeframe videos through the mobile app on a Samsung S20. Any time less within the teens would make this the quick reader well worth the investment!

@@PhillipSkraba I had a weeklong trip a few weeks ago and there were definitely days where I had to offload the camera in the middle of the day, just to ensure I wouldn't max out somewhere in the afternoon. My transfers from the device to an external SSD (2 1TB Sandisk Extreme SSDs) were around 30mbps, which took around 20-45 minutes each time I dump it. Between the go3, laptop, SSD and the cables in between, there must be a bottleneck, but I can't figure i out during the trip. So I took my laptop everywhere. So around day 3 I changed workflow involved having to take my laptop on my trip, dump the videos during lunchtime, and then dump the videos again as I'm preparing to sleep. I'm not a RU-vidr, or camera hobbyist. I'm just a casual who likes to edit "day in life videos" on mobile apps for preserving memories and private relatives-only viewing. If there was an option not to have to bring a laptop at all during the whole trip, I would take it. And if you have a few kids running with you, ditching the laptop is definitely something I think parents would prefer (because I have to carry their share of travel necessities too) The Quick Reader + a few microsd cards would definitely would solve that problem for me. I'm also interested in how RU-vidrs manage to keep all of these high quality videos in your laptops or NAS or do you delete raw videos once you've uploaded it to youtube?

You mean the rumours that were spread without anyone questioning why they weren’t sharing personal evidence… I have worked with Insta360 for years and I’ve never had any problems, they’re fantastic. They make the best 360 cameras on the market and the GO series is superb for its size. The GO 3S is well above par, I made a 25 minute vlog using it before I post a review on it and I can highly recommend it.

Some of my videos are sponsored, yes. If my video is sponsored it’ll say so in the description and video. This one was my own initiative. There is nothing wrong with sponsored videos, that’s how we RU-vidrs make money and bring you product reviews. Mine are always honest, I make a point of that. Now if you believe the rumours, that’s fine, but I personally questioned them in a comment, asking the creator to show us his own personal evidence, my comment was hidden, and no evidence was ever shown. Like I said, I have never had any problems and I’m happy with all the companies I work with. If I don’t like their product, if I’m ever asked anything unethical I just don’t work with them. Remember, responsibility is on the side of the creator.
