Instaling THOR Cowl Induction Into A Jeep Cherokee XJ

In this video I install a cowl intake into my 99 jeep cherokee xj. This cowl induction intake is from trailheadoffroad.com This THOR intake has many benefits especially in an XJ. where'd you get the seats??? Mine is also a 99 sport model... guess the look is different because of mine being cloth weave.

Thinking about doing this to my Jeep, any immediate power difference? Went on a road trip recently and visited the ozarks, going up those mountains my Jeep was struggling at high way speeds, wondering if this will improve it until I regear it

I haven’t been able to drive it enough to tell a difference. Been working on it nonstop. I will say it runs better than my 89 I had but there are other factors at play there as well.

No it just moves the air filter location you can’t increase power on 4.0 with just a filter intake like that you gotta port head and put high flow Intake and bigger throttle body with a comp cam

@@noah97589 little too late for that lol, ended up re gearing after going to an even bigger tire size and now she cruises 85-90 no problems lol, did go with the Thor intake and noticed that I don’t have my electric fan kicking on as much on hot days. Still gets hot just not as frequently.

What keeps the filter dry when it rains ?

So there’s no opening directly above the filter only on the drivers side portion on the Jeep. The Jeep is all designed to where the water drains away from the filter.

This setup is 50 state legal and no emission issues here in California.

@@ProjectVenture the reason i ask is because of the hot air from the engine flowing back into the cowl. Wasnt sure if I should cover the driver side vent or not.

@@windowlicker8060 Ah, it shouldn’t affect it that much. When the hot air escapes the hood it mixes enough with the outside air that it should be a non issue and the air you get sucked in is still a lot colder.

I didn’t but I live in the desert where rust is not an issue. I would recommend however painting anytime you cut and have exposed bare metal.

Have you noticed any real difference in temp?

I see an average of 5° difference on the open road. Where it really makes a difference is out on the trail my temps stay the same as normal driving where as before they would climb quite a bit especially in this 100° plus desert.

I am so sorry. Hopefully you haven’t ordered anything yet. I got your comment mixed up with one on the hood vents. I put the intake in before I really got to drive much but I can say that it runs smoother, better, and cooler than my xj I got rid of a while back. I still highly recommend this intake for everyone.

They are just the stock seats.

@@ProjectVenture those are swapped in seats as i suspected then, sports only came with cloth seats. just from seeing the seat back they look like ZJ grand cherokee seats. do you have a walk around vid of your XJ?

I don’t yet but the lady I got it from bought it new and told me she didn’t change anything. When I was doing the 4x4 conversion I could see where it had been t-boned before so maybe the seats got replaced then.

@@kennethsmith6470 I was in the Army, I understand why the flag is displayed the way it is on a military uniform. He's wearing a t-shirt. I haven't had a round whizz by my cranium but I have caught a piece of lead in my bicep. I don't find it disrespectful for a guy to wear the flag on his t-shirt, no matter which way it's displayed. I've seen them displayed upside down on some shirts and I find it appropriate at the moment. Hooah?
