I’ve been wanting to install a step on my boat trailer for a while now. Let’s face it, I’m not getting any younger! Unfortunately, the steps you buy for this are so expensive! I came across a video on RU-vid (GunnFishTV - • Easy DIY Bolt On Boat ... ) explaining a much more affordable option by purchasing just a couple of items from Amazon. Thanks for watching!
Links below may be affiliate links:
Spare Tire Carrier on Amazon: amzn.to/3Gvfckh
Steel Trailer Step: amzn.to/3GtzoTE
If you're thinking of purchasing anything from Amazon, please consider using the following link. Items will not cost you any extra by using this link, but it could possibly help this channel to grow by paying an extremely small "commission" on anything you purchase through the below links. I really appreciate it!

GoPro Hero 9 Black: amzn.to/3FwRX8I
DJI Wireless Mic System: amzn.to/3HacUYx
Ulanzi VLOG Housing Cage: amzn.to/3iFD23c
Ulanzi Waterproof LED Light: amzn.to/3Fsrvxd

Simple and smart, I will how ever give you a tip. Welding school, or local welders can make you a double step with a hand hold for about $100 or less. If you go to scrap yard you can make it even cheaper and still strong as crap.
@according2dave
@according2dave 11 месяцев назад
The hand hold is the option that would be nice. I still like having this one for the money, but I may do that in the future. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.

Suggestion: Take one of the bolts holding unit to trailer and buy a piece of plastic tubing to slide over the bolts. This will prevent the bolts from rubbing the paint off the trailer and putting two rust areas under the bolts.

Not a bad suggestion! Thanks and thanks for watching.

Great video thanks! I saw the other guys video as well and I’m with you; I don’t care about the look as much as I do the function. Parts are on order. I have a deep V and I will contribute a video soon! Have a great fishing season!

Dave I did the same thing about a year ago but did one other thing that made it SUPER . Take a chain link fence pole and two C bolts and clamp pole to trailer just where the pole almost touches the boat when on trailer. This gives you a handle to hold on to up and down plus helps when loading boat back on trailer.
@according2dave
@according2dave Год назад
That sounds like a great idea. Not having the handle is the only downside to this option, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.

3 1/2 feet back from the ball will clear any truck. Unless you meant dent the side fender ?? The boat will bust out your tail light first.

Your bow strap should be under the lower roller when towing.
@according2dave
@according2dave 5 месяцев назад
I honestly didn’t know that. My old boat only had one roller on it and when I got this one a couple years ago, this is how it was strapped. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for watching!
@MichaelMidgett
@MichaelMidgett 5 месяцев назад
@@according2dave Basscats are back heavy. Strapping from under the lower roller helps to keep the bow down while trailering.
@rickyp.625
@rickyp.625 Год назад
What is your height from top of trailer rail to top of bow where your stepping to? Other video said top of rail to top of step is about 10". Wondering if you can raise the step higher on the bracket?
@according2dave
@according2dave Год назад
From the top of trailer rail to top of boat is about 21”. My step is roughly 10” so almost in half. I set mine fairly high, but you might be able to a little more height out of it. I used mine at the lake today and it’s perfect for my setup. I know the more expensive ones have the handle, which would be nice, but this one works great. Thanks for watching.
@sandraharden
@sandraharden Год назад
The height from the top of the trailer rail to the top of the bow (where you will be stepping) is approximately 10 inches, so the step can be adjusted to be higher on the bracket. However, it is important to make sure that the step is not too high, as this could make it difficult to enter and exit the trailer.
@randyhowell4320

What was the pole you leaned on on the deck?
@according2dave
@according2dave Год назад
If you’re talking about the one towards the end after I installed the step, it’s my mount for my graphs that I use in the front of my boat. It’s called the “Stowaway Mount”. It does fold down and extend up so I can see it better when standing while fishing. I was also leaning on one towards the beginning of the video that is attached to my trolling motor. That’s my Rite Hite transducer mount for my live scope transducer. I appreciate you watching.

Why not just mount the spare tire there and step on it.
@according2dave
@according2dave Год назад
I thought of that, and it may work on some trailers, but on mine it would have been really awkward to have the tire there. Just too much bulk in that area for me.
