Good video man. I recently installed a Kuryakyn gauge on my bike and just cut the cables as well. If I ever had to have it back (not sure why) I could easily solder it back together.
Hey kidmoto, you may need to take a cat-nap from all the exurtion from your brain doing all that "techno-wizadry" on the install! It looks fantastic, dechrome it all asap!😎😁👍🏍️🐻🤓🦅 Doug
Looks great, I've been considering doing that on my King. I would like to see if I could get a white cap and trim that match my paint or at least white trim with the black cap. I am interested on how well you can see that fuel level on a sunny day.
Thank you for showing how easy that process actually is. I wasn’t sure how the left cap came off. I traded my ‘16 CVO Road Glide Ultra in on a newer ‘21 Road King Special, but I don’t have the newer bike home yet. I’m getting a couple of accessories installed before they deliver it to my house so I haven’t had a chance to investigate this yet. The previous owner removed the black caps and replaced them with chrome ones. 😖 He had tried making it more like a RK Classic by replacing the front fender to the Classic style, adding a Classic front light bar in chrome, and replacing various other black parts with chrome to give it a balanced “two-toned” black & chrome look. Now I get to pay to put it back more like stock. LOL
Man Chrome is coming back! If I was starting from scratch with another bike I might lean into the chrome right now just to be a bit different. I do however prefer the black it’s just back to getting overdone.
@@kidmoto22 Absolutely! I’ve wanted another blacked out bike for a while now. I swapped a bunch of stuff when I bought my new ‘08 Street Glide but left just a couple of things chrome for an accent because man did they ever “pop” then! Then when I traded that on the CVO RG, that was completely covered in chrome. I’ve been watching & waiting the last two or three years again for another blacked out CVO that I “just had to have”, but hadn’t found the right overall bike until now that I’ve decided to downsize. My wife got her license and “repurposed” my ‘16 Fatboy lol so we don’t ride two-up any longer. I wanted another lighter bike, preferably a Road King. I found this one with a custom paint job by the same guy that painted “my wife’s bike” with only 4400 miles on it and a Stage 3 build (122”) and the price was right and here we are! I’m going to leave some chrome on it as an accent again and then enjoy it. 😎 How have you liked your RKS and what plans did you have for it? I’m going to subscribe to your channel so I’ll probably find out more either way.
@@davidsidler7246 I’ve touched almost every part of my bike in some form or another and it’s nothing like the stock form. I love the bike for sure and have convinced one of my crew to purchase the same bike. It’s on the touring platform so there’s a ton of parts and mods you can do. If you want to see current picks check out my Instagram with the same name kidmoto22 you can see all the shit from there.
I absolutely love your bike and every piece of chrome you take off makes it better........I don't have one, and maybe I never will cus money, but I love watching these. Also love how careful you were with your baby :D Wiring on bikes is so nice compared to cars. I haaaaaaaaaaate wiring cars. Anyway yes looks great man, Excellent install video.
The GorillaBiker Thanks so much. It’s great when someone else appreciates what I’m doing. I just do me and what I like!!.....much appreciation for your comments..🙏🏼
I do not have a video on that. You can see in this video I cut the wires to the old until and run the wires for the new unit down and connect them. If that’s what you are speaking too.
@@kidmoto22 TY. I know how to replace the guage. I did that already.. Now, I need to replace the fuel level sending unit. It's supposed to accessed by the same hole. I just can't figure out the clips to get into the fuel tank.
I'm looking for flush mount caps for my Indian Roadmaster, but it appears that no one sells them. What manufacturer made the ones for your HD? I would like to contact them to see if they are thinking about making them for Indians. Thanks...
Hey man...I’m pretty sure the company would not be making them as mine are a stock H-D product. I’ve not looked into Indian bike parts but I’d be looking at the big companies first they would be the most likely place.
Looks great! I'd like to do this with chrome caps on my 2006 Softail Springer. Is that the HD kit? Would the fuel gauge wiring be the same on my bike? Thanks
I am not a huge fan of chrome either. I have a 2008 Road King Classic in Crimson Red Sun. It has the black leather wrapped hard bags that I am going to switch out to matte black stretched hard bags and I am going to add matte black lower fairings. I am going to add this mod to my bike as well! Thank you for the great video !
I had a road king with these in it. The fuelcap was very anoying to turn. I think the mechanic who build this in, did no alining of the external ring at the tank! My current Road King shall i do myself….tnxs for your demo
My gas gauge/cap on the left of my non-fuel injected 2003 king got pulled up about 1/2 way in transit by a tie down for a dirt bike. Pushed it back down but the sight glass and gauge were slanted. Attempts to set them back were making it more offset so I got it were I could read it and rode it. It ran weird, like choke was 1/2 on for 10mls and quit. It would then ride 1 mile and quit. It kept starting but also kept quitting...it would idle fine, even several minutes, but not under load. Once home I pulled the gauge 1/2 way out of tank, but not clear, still 1/2 way in, and started it and it backfired and quit. I pushed the gauge back in and somehow, quite accidentally, the sight glass and gauge were perfectly lined up exactly where they're supposed to be! I started it and it runs perfect, no weird lope like the choke slightly pulled out, runs freak'n great but I don't know for a fact this was the issue. 98% sure, but going 10mils to find out would suck. My question, finally, is this...would messing with that cap cause it to run like crap and keep stalling? I say yes because of ventilation, but can't find any info.
Ok....You are correct about ventilation. However on my bike the non fuel side doesn’t provide access to the fuel it’s just a tunnel for the electrical to travel through. If the non fuel side on your bike provides access to the fuel then I would say yes your correct. If that side doesn’t provide access to the fuel the two issues likely were not connected. Hope this helps and good luck wrenching and riding! The Road King is a great bike!
Nice, straightforward video. Looks great. Pardon my Touring-newbness but was there anything being displayed on the stock left (fake) gas cap, since it was also wired? On the new Softails, there is no little whole underneath, just the gas tank, and there are no wires.
Nice clear clean instructions, like you say, the sort of thing we can all do. Thinking of doing this on “Quoth” my Low Rider S, black is the new black.
Nice job covering up the part numbers on the box so we couldn't see them. You forgot to slip the cover over the new wires before you pinned the connector.
Kevin Schroeder Thanks for the sub. If you listen to Podcasts you should check out Five Dirty Bikers that’s WetBannamike, TheGearedRaven, D-cycle, Tony Cox and myself...always a good time.
If you used the instruction you would see that the trim ring has a notch on the underside indicating the direction it goes instead of rotating into a random guessimintation.
This is the second flush mounted gas cap I’ve installed and the notch does not always allow for an even distance around the actual gas cap. So the guesstimating I did was to make the gap even. I appreciate your input.
You did good job 👍 But if you push the black fuel cap on the right side after installation for demonstration that could be the prefect video . And next time avoid wide angle shooting . Thanks 🙏 .
appreciate the detailed video, nice step by step instructions. i have two hands, the brain is a subject of debate. i want to do this on my roadking but was concerned how that would go. all looks straightforward. only thing i question at all still is the adjustments of the torx part but assuming that isn't bad?
Jeff Velodota nope the adjustment of the torx part of the left side is not an issue and very straight forward. Honestly that might have been the only thing I referred to the instructions for and they explained it well enough.
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the login password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Bryan Davian Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Good stuff bud. But it seems to me the blue lights on the fuel gage should be on top or am I mistaken. Don't get me wrong I like it your way and it blends so good with that river rick gray bike of yours😀
@@kidmoto22 ohh okay I wasn't a d#$$ after all hahah. I'm in love with the RKS...so easy to ride. Just twist and off you go... Arizona is a blast to ride....
@@kidmoto22 id never live in Phoenix...I love Tucson and the Catalina mountains!!! Not missing the city for the past 20 some years... Came down here from Wisconsin country hahah.
My next major mod is looking like bars, a new seat for the wife for more comfortable two up riding. I’ve not ruled out the speedo change at some point.
kidmoto22: The padding in my stock seat, for my 2016 RK, recently went south and I went to my HD dealer and demoed/test rode a HD Hammock seat. What a big step up in comfort and support. Rough pavement was no longer a discomfort. Unfortunately the seat design sits you back about 2” than the stock seat, which did not work for me. I suggest going to the HD dealer and trying the replacement seat before ordering one (if possible). Good how to video on the gas gauge and fuel cap! Ride Safe
Jim Rides HD I did a demo on the Tall Boy from H-D and we pulled the trigger on that one...Mrs Kidmoto22 and I have a first impression vid on the channel about it!
@@kidmoto22 I agree kid, I like that they are flush mount and that they are black, good choice brother I've always been kinda a chrome nut but the past few years I'm really starting to like the black out look on all these bike's, and it stays better looking a heck of a lot longer, everyone knows that Harley Davidson chrome isn't the best of quality anymore, I guess I'm old school, but I really am liking the black out look 💯✌️😎
OZARKS H-D RIDER'S It’s all personal preference and that’s the beauty of motorcycling. Make them your own. I like the looks of chrome just not on my bike!.....🤣
@@kidmoto22 if you buy the flush mount from harley, it's easy. I bought mine from Amazon and there was a horrendous gap. But what they cant really get right is the gas level on the sportster. Reviews are all over the place. Some say it works, but there a many saying it is not accurate. Anyway, as long as I reset the miles when I fuel up, I have a good idea of when to pump more.
Thanks for showing us how easy that was. I’m swapping the stock chrome bubble cap with a gloss black flush mount gauge and just needed to see the right way to do it. 😎👍🏼
Great , except this guy forgot the heat shield. Eventually these wires will melt from heat and either the gauge will stop working or you'll get a short . Not too good!!!
