A how-to on the install of a Tusk Enduro Lighting Kit on a motocross bike with a 70w stator. Also includes installing a headlight mask and a 4 wire key ignition switch.
Thanks I want to put on a.m.p headlight and tail/brake light for my ktm glad to see the tusk harness is very well organized and thought out. Good tips at the end too.
Love the vid, Wish this was out when i was installing my kit. Could you please make a video on how to add a key to a motocross bike that goes in a little more in detail. I have a Honda CRF450R that i want to add a key to as extra security and im lost on how how and where i should splice in the connection and which connection to splice up on my bike from the key
Hey just found your channel and really like your videos! I have a 2014 CRF450R that I am working on getting street legal. I still have to watch through some of your videos on dirt bike electrical. I was wondering if you could let me know which parts you are using here? Specifically the lighting kit, the stator, and ignition switch. Do they all come together as a kit?
Hey, I’m trying to make my 2010 crf250r into street legal and the ships around say it’s impossible but there’s thousands bikes converted to street legal. I was wondering if I could get any recommendations if how to start the project 😅
Desert speed I got a couple questions for you. First off I have a 2016 kx450f and I literally spent $700 last month on everything to make it street legal electronic wise. The only thing that I don't have is a wiring harness which I was going to make myself. Do you think it would be easier for me to just order a tusk wiring harness by itself to use to wire my bike up? If so I wonder if I could buy the connectors that would plug into my brake light due to it not being a tusk one of course.
I have my key wir d to the kill switch also it’s a 4 wire key 2 wires separate a connection while the other 2 make a connection hen key is turned the other 2 wires are connected to the on off but I’m having trouble with hi beam, had turn signal and horn working but not anymore twilight listened plate light and low beam headlight work along with brakes
Man we've been trying to figure out why headlight bulb won't turn on with the tusk lighting kit. Everything works, blinkers, horn, tailight, but not the low or high headlight. Can you shed some insight. Its been installed on a 2012 wr450f yamaha dirtbike. Thanks any feedback appreciated.
The three wires on the control switch do NOT go to the three spades on the headlight. The black wire goes to the + terminal of the battery (or the red wire on the front brake switch). The white wire goes to the low beam (top) headlight spade. The blue wire goes to the high beam (left) headlight spade. Lastly you need to get a spare wire and a spade terminal female connector and connect the last spade on the headlight to the - terminal on the battery or the chassis for ground.
Awesome video! I know you mentioned the stator video, but would this be the same set up for my yz450f? Want to do this to my bike but didn’t know if it was the same
Hey brother awesome videos , I’m currently trying to make my 2015 Crf450r a supermoto/enduro just like yours , I’m in Massachusetts so I need everything to make it legal lol, front head light ,blinkers, rear light, horn, etc... Im curious how you made out with the bike anymore problems or needed parts, I’m trying to start this project ASAP but I need to order all the parts I was wondering if you could send me a list of everything you needed/ used to finish the bike it would be a life saver and wallet/time saver lol 😂 thanks a lot great videos
have you had that inspected? I'm doing the same thing and was wondering because I've been going off the DOL website. but I went to the WSP website and it says stuff about hazards and instrumentation. I was wondering whats your opinion and experience as I also live in Washington and have used the tusk kit as well
The input of that park light connects to the outlet of the on/off or key. For the tusk kit it will be the short red wire up front with the Male bullet.
I have a project with a 01 kx250 2 stroke I'm trying to just run lights off battery your video was very helpful but led headlight wont turn on do you have a link for big battery you described
desert speed I can tell you live in a dry climate, those blue bullets wouldn't last long here in the northeast. The wires would go green in a season. Good job explaining everything though! I merged the stock wiring harness in my CRF50 with my Baja Designs kit, soldered & shrink wrapped everything together & it's been flawless for about 10 years now. Knowing what I know now, I should have gone with the Tusk kit & saved a couple hundred but Baja Designs was the only complete kit out at that time that I knew of.
I've got an xr 650r with tusk dual sport kit I got the battery charging and the brake light switches and turn signals working just wandering where to power my baja designs squadron ac headlight? It has two wires only on back of it and the control switch for the dual sport like yours has the three blue the white and black wandering how to get the headlight wired up where I can switch the headlight on? Do I just do what you did even tho headlight only has two wires In it? with one wire coming from front brake switch for power then the i guess blue wire from control headlight switch? Would that work? Any help appreciated thanks great video!
Red front brake stitch wire --> black control switch wire. Then blue/white control switch wires tied together --> red headlight wire. Then black headlight wire to ground. If it's the AC headlight you need to tap both wires into the same two (probably yellow) wires that come from the bike and plug into your rectifier to change the battery. Then the headlight will come on when the bike is running. If you want to do that same thing but through the switch you'll need to tap into one of the yellow bike wires --> black control switch wire, then tie the blue/white control switch wires together and --> one headlight wire, other headlight wire --> the remaining yellow bike wire at the uptrend side of the rectifier.
@@desertspeed2934 Thank you!! I really appreciate the reply back man!!!! Makes sense only part I'm wandering you said uptrend side of the rectifier meaning on the other side coming out of the rectifier like the dc side after power goes thru rectifier side wire? Or just other yellow wire going into the rectifier? Thanks again man couldnt figure it out you really know your electrical!! 👍😎
Like you said by pressing the kill button youre creating a circuit to ground and kill the bike. Wouldn't the bike be able to be kicked over and started while the key is in the standard off position and turning the key would shunt the bike. I also have a 4 wire ignition and with a continuity test it shows no connections when off, 2 connections with 1 turn and 1 connection with 2 turns.. Any help is greatly appreciated
It's likely a key switch made for a DC CDI and E-start system. Off kills bike and starter, on enables bike and starter, and on2 keeps bike on but disables starter.
If it's not too much trouble send me a link of a good key switch. I believe I should have the same set up as you.. just to clarify.. you can't kick your bike over until the key is turned twice?
Yes. The two wire kill switch is connect-to-kill. So the green and black+white key wires connect in parallel to the factory kill switch wires, then you can use the black and red key wires however you want. Most people power a battery headlight or a street legal kit with it. Ideally it replaces the on/off toggle that comes with most street legal kits.
Just a quick question what color wires was it on the wiring harness that u tapped into with the multi-meter for the key switch was it the red n black wire
Hello. I have a kick start only 1999 wr400 and the ignition key turns on and bike is running turns on the lights and things work but when I turn key off the bike continues to run. What do you think could be the problem. Thanks
desert speed does it have anything to do with a bad magneto or anything like that? I’m supposed to buy the bike tomorrow but I’d like to know how to fix this before I buy. As of now the choke is used to turn the bike off
I bought everything from the kit except the battery and the on off switch for the lights I figure I will add a toggle switch for my lights and maybe fans for street riding somwhere else so the bars aren't crowed, but I think I wanna add just a regular motorcycle instead of the little them battery to make sure I'm covered and won't have to charge it everyday. your thoughts
This bike has a trail tech stator so it actually charges the battery. As far as your situation, my dad runs a tusk kit like this with all led lights including the park light and h4 bulb. He only had to charge once a month tops with the tiny nicad tusk battery.
desert speed so i should be able to power all that and charge it back up during the ride no problem then whether i use the little tusk battery or just a small motorcycle battery then. I have an 2000 wr400F which puts out about 100watts from the stator says the forums. And it came with a headlight and taillight im just adding everything else to make it a dual sport.. thanks bud🖒🏿
desert speed i must have watched this vid 1000+ times i got everything to work including the key,the only issues im having is with the tysk hydraulic brake switch it just wont flash the rear light when pressed. Is there a way to test it. I did do a continuity test and it is good also did a volt test and got 12.6 could it be the ebay light i bought
But what if I don't have a camera man to spill a drink? Will a friend or wife work for this important part?? Lmao thank you very informative video I been a week tryin to figure this out as I got a used klx with a lighting kit that was cut off not taken off thanks why they took it off to begain with is beyond me!!!
*PLEASE SOMEBODY CAN REPLY ME WUTH THE LINKS TO THE STORES OR THE KIT AND BATTERY IN AMAZON I AM FROM CANCUN MEXICO AND BOUGTH MY FIRST 2017 HONDA CRF 450 RX IT WAS AN OUTLET AND I GET A SPECIAL PRICE NOW I WANTO TO DO THIS EXACT SAME CONVERTION TO MY OWN BIKE THABKS FOR THE ONES WHO HELP ME*
You should buddy. Very good informative video you’ve done here. I’ve just brought one of these bikes today and looking to put in a key ignition at the very minimum. Don’t like the thought of somebody being able to start my bike while it’s parked outside a shop or in the petrol station. Could you possibly give me the links to all the parts you’ve used in your video. Thanks for taking the time to reply, it’s much appreciated 👍🏻
I thought about doing this but then I remembered i gotta change the oil on mine like every 6hours and only got a 2gal tank. Id be spending a fortune on oil changes and filling up a lot cuz you know 2gal tank and buy street tires and another set of wheels cuz the street will eat up the tires for the trail or whatever
Trail tech 90w DC charging kit. Complete Tusk enduro lighting kit. Baja designs DOT headlight. You can use the supplied battery from trail tech but I use a shorai.
@@desertspeed2934 hey man your the expert here so i am trying to install a led bar light about 36 watts with a switch on a 2010 crf 250r and installing the trail tech stator for more power and it also comes with the battery so if i wire the led bar light to the battery that comes with the stator will it charge the battery and make the led light work or would i have to wire it to the stator.
@@desertspeed2934 thank god lol you don’t understand how lucky I feel talking to you lol, would you at all be able/ willing if you can spare some of your time and knowledge helping me wire in a front and rear light both being 2 element bulbs, and 2x brake light switches, I’ve currently got about 80% through doing a on road rm85 03 but would like to be able to right it at night I have a look that runs indicators and had a switch gear so that’s on and working next I need to wire the lights up so they work and then into the switch gear, I’d also like to add a key somewhere like you did mate
@@desertspeed2934 you must be somewhere that an inspection is done because I have to have a plate on my 4 wheeler but you can't drive those on a roadway, aside from jumping trail to trail!
