Install Reverse Glow Gauges on a Honda Civic 

@hondatec420 I didn't take the needles off and I just twisted them to where I could slip the face on. Then once I plugged them back in they went back to original positions. The speedometer can only go on in one place because on the pin the needle rests on when at 0 mph. So it can only move a couple mm in either direction. REMEMBER! DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREW FOR THE FACE - OR BEND THE CONNECTION FROM THE WIRE TO THE FACE! Thanks!

@MrYesmanII Yep they go right over them. The originals are not removable it is all one piece. Well, there are a few places on the internet that sell them and there are a few different types of gauge faces themselves. The ones closest to mine are on Ebay. Just search for - 96-00 EK Civic EX EL Glow Gauge White Face Reverse AT But you can just search around Ebay and the internet to find a pair that you like the best.

@evofantacee As far as connecting them, there is only 2 wires to attach to the power and ground -black and red. Other than that there should be the transformer box with a separate cable with a switch for color and a rotary dial for brightness, and 3 or 4 pin connectors for the faces. My is all hidden under the dash but I will see what I can do for a video.

@mrlakayna yes, this has been answered thousands of times before, ALL EK CIVICS HAVE THE SIGNAL WIRE FOR RPM. and yes I didn't have an rpm cluster before now I do.

@eric31291 Depending how you wire them mine turn on with the park lights and headlights. Yes mine came with a separate control also. What worked the best for me was just turning the gauges all the way up and then tucking the control under the dash - I've never had to adjust the brightness. Then I turn all the other lights all the way down - or you could remove the two bulbs that illuminate the old gauge faces. They are two different types of transformers so you need two controls.

@WestLosHomiez I'm not sure, but I'm referring to that if you bend them, the connection tends to break really easily.

@cold1298 Both, but the ones that light up are mainly called reverse glow gauges.

@Miguelkenia6910 No the fuse is hot or 12 volts power, so you only rap the power cable most likely red around the fuse.

@eric31291 I would truly try to slip the faces over the needles first - worked for me. But if you absolutely have to remove the needles ( not recommended) just ply them up with a fork. I left the bulbs in, but you can remove or tape over the ones that shine on the front of the cluster. Usually 2 of them on the top.

nice...thanks it did help me, i bought a cluster and installed myself but did not know where to put the red and black wires,,,,i black is for ground but the red one still dont know where to put it

@Sheppy99 My fuel needle went right back to where it was before. I wouldn't spin them a lot and I would put them back relatively in the same place. Just be very gentle and slow. The Honda speedo does have a defect and they are know to go out around 140k miles. Mine did shortly after this video. Replaced it with another used one with about the same miles showing and put the gauge face back on. Seems to work fine. Thanks! Anything else just let me know!

Thats all easy stuff, the screwing off and of screws and all that, I wanted to know about the electrical, wheres ground, splicing wires and all that, which is the actually difficult part.

Mine came with a switch to pick green and blue color and turn knob to make the lights dim to bright. Did this one come that way also and you cut it or was there never a switch?

@Miguelkenia6910 Not too sure but every instruction manual I have read says to use the Tail Lights I believe ( whichever one I said in the video). This is mainly because the tail lights use less power than the headlights.

@darkangelmnk Any switched power. Easiest is to tie it into the taillight fuse. Or you can create your own.

@Marco2107100 Mine is a 97 ex. Installing gauge faces for any vehicle is about the same. You follow the same basic steps. Just not all the bolts and snaps are in the same place. Not sure if the 97 and 94 are exactly the same but I would guess they are close.

@2much0wnag3 Had it put on at a local muffler shop for around $100. I looked of the price recently for another guy who wanted to do it himself. The glasspack is around $50-$60 at local auto parts store.

@eldiablo11375 Easiest way - steering wheel cover - but I'm sure you already thought of that. Yes you can change it but you loose some features like the air bag and horn buttons. I am not sure how to correctly do this though. I would love to attempt it some time sooner or later on my car but just haven't yet. If I find anything out about it I'll surely pass it along. For now I would read some online forums - this is the first place that I always turn to.

@2much0wnag3 I have a video on it. Its a glasspack and headers. We don't test emissions here but if u leave the cat and resonator on you should be fine.

@xVxRayJohnathaNxVx Well in the 97 its in the top row 2nd one from the right. 7.5 amp... I think its the same in the 99-00 model, not exactly sure on that though.

hey can u show the tranformer how to installed i just get a car and i come with those but it looks like someone just pullet the dimmer and the stereo was connected to the ligths and i fix everything but they dont get ligth i chech the power and all of the got power but i got my light check up and only when i touch a sertain cable from the switch that chage the color it bright for little bit but dosent keep on can u make one to see if im doing something wteon

@JONBETO2000 Well this is kind of weird because mine just stopped working too. Just got it fixed last week and I'm currently working on a video on how to fix it! But yes I have seen people do this and supposedly there are a few years that will just connect right up. Although the dash bezel does not fit exactly. Mileage has to stay with the new equipment. When I replaced mine I tried but felt like I was going to break something. Even a Honda dealer wont spin them for you.

Is this all? Is there any changing of the bulbs needed or anything? Or all I need to get is the glow gauge faces?

Does that mean when you got the power connector of the gauges led lightning and you connect it to the citylights, they wil not work when you turn on the headlights, so you splits the power connector and connect them on the headlight fuse and also the city light fuse?

Mine have worked fine for years. To change the color LEDs would just be on the back of the instrument panel. They just unscrew.

Hey Bro hows it going I had a question the yellow plug i believe is the airbag wondering if i could just take it out or will the airbag just shoot out at me on the cluster greatly appreciated feedback

@Miguelkenia6910 Well, if anyone asks, I didn't say this, but the cheap way is to strip the wire, pull out the fuse, wrap the wire around the dead side ( the side that doesn't have constant 12 volts) and then stick the fuse back in with the wire wrapped around the prong on one side of the fuse. This isn't the best way to do it, but the easy way. Does this make sense?

I'm just wondering, when you moved the fuel tank needle, was it necessary to move it back before you reinstalled or does the needle automatically reset itself to correct position when the car is turned back on? I heard somewhere that messing with the needle positions can screw things up majorly but I don't know if that was BS or what. Thanks! Love the video, definitely going to help me. I bought my car with these preinstalled but they aren't lighting up like they used too.

Just unhook your battery wait awhile for any electric left in car to drain or you could just try turning your lights on lol then you can do whatever with the airbag I personally don't undo the battery but it's recommended and yes the yellow is your air back I took all mine out in my EG

@mrlakayna anything 1996-2000 civic dx is the same thing. maybe some small exterior body changes I dunno about usdm civics.

Did you get your interior panels sprayed? I've been wanting my Civic's interior to be that color.

You pull the fuse out, wrap the wire around one end of the fuse, and stick the fuse back in. Thanks!

Hi I just got my face plats in the mailbox last week and I've been having a little problem I got my I have my gauge plate hooked up to my head lights so when I turn on my headlights to gauge plate light up the only problem is when I turn the car and leave it overnight and come back in the morning the car battery is draining down how can I stop please help

Exactly, and use a multimeter to test the power wires, to see what one powers up when the lights are turned on, and to test which ones are 12V. Multimeters are very cheap on ebay.

@2much0wnag3 This cluster is stock for and Ex. The gauge faces came from a company on ebay. What is your car since it does not have a tach? I wonder if it can be swapped for an Ex cluster? I know you can on some models.

If you do the fuse for the headlights the gauges come on with the headlights.

you do it with the battery connected?

Wire the red wire to the headlight fuse and ground the black out on any piece of bare metal.

The speedometer needle doesnt move freely after i installed the face. The rest fit fine smh

if you completely disconnect the battery for 30min, it will disarm the airbag. over 100 guys in body shops are killed by airbags every year

Is it possible to use a manual gauge over an automatic cluster? Is there a big difference?
