@Youthman with your front sound stage of 3 JTR Noesis 212s and massive subs (which look sealed) but still with that much power do you ever vibrate the screen to the point that it’s noticeable? Thanks so much!

I’m a fan of your channel but i’ve been struggling to find reliable information about creating chest thumping bass in a small home theater room. I know the klipsch 8000f do it, even without a sub but they are too big for my room. I’m wondering if it’s possible to achieve chest thumping, precise and fast bass using smaller speakers with bigger subs. Or will i still be lacking mid bass 80hz+ that would usually come from the speakers.

I diy’d some panels about 6 months ago. It’s like a nite and day difference. You have to absorb some of those low frequencies. When you do the CLR will really shine and help with dialogue.

There’s no doubt acoustic treatment in my room has made a big impact on clarity and dialogue. Whether you use DIY or buy a commercial product like GIK it will make a huge difference

Great content. Question: Are your JTR speakers set below the center height of your AT screen? I’m installing my AT screen and cannot find a guide to speaker height for speakers behind the screen. I know the LCRs should be all the same speaker and height. Just wondering if the tweeter should be just below the center closer to ear level.

Ideally you want your tweeter to be as close to the height of your ears as possible. That was the main reason why I went with an MTM design where the coaxial driver (midrange and tweeter) are in the center of the speaker.

Hi Michael, Those panels are only good for 100+hz and help eliminate front wall reflections and decay times( which yours look good) but you really need something like 4+ft of absorption to help in that 30-80hz range. You also didn't mention if these were crossed over to the subs or were you running full range?

Yes I recently found out that “bass traps” and panels do not really effect low frequencies but remarked more mid bass. My LCR are crossed over at 60Hz

Yeah you need bass traps to affect the lower frequencies as the absorbtion for frequencies below 100hz are so thick

You should give MSO a try with your MiniDSP! It's a really cool program that uses REW measurements to optimize multiple subwoofers for multiple seating areas! Works pretty great for me!

Been following you and commenting for a lot of years...and honestly, despite some of these crazy awesome home theaters you have shown off...I like your own setup the most. I love the way your screen lifts up and that beautiful looking setup behind it(and gear that makes me jealous 🤤😉) looks so clean. Love the wood cabinets below. Your home theater is probably one of my all time favs. I hoped to own JTR one day, but being far northwest in Canada, the dollar conversion, duty and shipping just kills me(i got a quote the other day for a 4000ulf...$6400 usd plus taxes, plus conversion. Probably be close to $9600 in my money :/ ). I just could never afford to get their speakers and multiple subs. So I will use your channel to help curb my desires haha 😉. I decided to go all PSA gear instead and will be posting some videos of my setup in the future hopefully. I kind of got off track there though. Just wanted to tell you how much I adore your setup. 😎 keep up the great content ✌️

@@Youthman thanks! Yeah, I hear the comparison a lot. I have been extremely happy with my tv2112. So I went ahead and ordered a bunch of their mtm210 speakers and surrounds plus an additional tv2112. Tom is amazing to deal with and he is using great components and parts from what I can tell. Perhaps not JTR level(I know my speakers don't have that $900+ compression driver), but I hear I will be getting close to the performance, for a lot less money. Look forward to hearing them for myself for the first time! :) I watched your video about your experience with hans zimmer blu ray on your new speakers and it makes me grin. If I can get that kind of experience out of my new gear on the way....fully worth it and what this hobby is all about! Side note: it isn't advertised yet, but I believe tom is working and near completion on a dual 12" version of a loud speaker with a similar or same compression driver as jtr...and an active and passive version. For the rumoured 3000-3500 USD a speaker....definitely something to keep your eyes peeled for

Nice. Save some money on the upper part by just getting some 12x12 acoustic foam cubes. some down facing spotlights could be nice for videos, when you lift the screen they come fade on. just need an automatic door opener to lift it.

Panels are dope!!! Regarding your LCR, I wonder if adding isolation feet to decouple and isolate can further improve the sound quality since you already have some sort of material under them? I can tell you that on my RC7 III, the Isoacoustics OREA series made a tremendous improvement especially in male voices and the overall sound stage/imaging. Pricey but well worth it. Ohh btw, I tried that foam pad that's supposed to isolate and improve sound, but for me it was cool aid. When comparing and contrasting both methods, I noticed the pads constricting certain frequencies and thus not letting my speaker open up. I'd try it and I would love to someday see a review on this somewhat neglected topic.

I can understand the concept behind isolation feet to reduce vibrations from transferring into my cabinet. I’m not seeing how they would improve soundstage or imaging. Maybe I’m wrong but that honestly doesn’t seem physically possible.

@@Youthman its true the main purpose for proper isolation feet is to decouple the cabinet from the floor but it can also reduce vibrations in the box. Giving the drivers a more stable ”platform” to work from. Its quite counter intuitive since the boxes on the feet are very ”wobbly” when you touch them (because of the very internal resonance that the feet give). The principal is the same as for heavy machinery in machine shops. To get the machine to be more still they place them on elastic feet (wich in those cades are metal due to the weight of the machines). But you need feet of proper material and they need to be matched to the weight of each corner of the speaker box. There is a swedish product named SD-feet that fulfill all of the above. And to those who arent aware. NO! spikes do not make your speakers ”stand still”. It is a myth come from improper understanding of the physics involved!

Thanks for the video. It says you have 4 more panels, I recommend that you do this test, remove the 2 panels from the side walls that you have now and put the panels 17.8 cm thick, make measurements with REW and set between 125-500 Hz. It is a test that will not take time, it is to remove 2 panels and put the bass traps. I also looked at the TR (T20, T30, Topt). Written with translator Greetings

in pro cinema's the entire front wall is covered with absorbative material behind and around the speakers to effectively stop the SBIR effect. This is definitely happening in your room as well, judging by the graph. You could improve your room acoustics immensely if you fill up that cavity with fiberglass insulation Owens corning 703 or something similar. Then cover the front face with black fabric to finish it off. Do that and you will see and hear a real difference, also because the room correction won't have to make as many adjustments to correct the response.

I moved mine outside the room. Unfortunately all electronics generate heat. The fancy way would be to put the projector inside what they call a hush box. It illuminates any sound from the projector but also keeps it at a constant temperature

Damn, I saw “MONSTER bass” and thought “he went fishing!” 😂 Michael, how close is your furnace to your theater? If it’s so close that you can hear the force of the wind on the supply vent, can you instal an adjustable barrel inside the duct to control the flow? In the summer, I barely have the baffle open and it’s comfortable in my man cave. In our Michigan winters, I have it fully opened come January when the cold settles into the concrete of the basement. My furnace is extremely close to my man cave. It’s in the next room, which the wall is just thin paneling! I’ve been wanting to put up insulation to help minimize the noise.

I live in Florida so no furnace hear. If you are hearing it in the mic, is either the air vent or the return.

@@Youthman When I run Audyssey, I shut the AC/heat off. Even the USB fan on top of my x7200wa gets turned off, and the mini-fridge, and the deep freezer. People in the house aren’t allowed to move!!!! LOL. Cheers bud!

@@Youthman the WiFi controlled thermostats are great, especially for stuff like this! When we first got ours installed, I pranked our daughter. The system was installed in the summer. I cranked the heat up why my wife and I were out. Fifteen minutes later, she texts me “why is it so hot in the house!!!”

(video 11:19) I thought there would be bigger differences. Was a little disappointed. Fabric or foam mats or similar wall mats would have worked better I think. Is it measuring microphone that is not measuring properly? You should have a flatter frequency response if you are going to have good sound.

I already have treatment on the rear and side walls so I would not expect a massive difference adding panels to the front wall. Microphone is a UMIK-1.

I'd recommend working on the multiple sub integration to really fix the bottom end. You can add as many bass traps as you want and you will not fix that. Perhaps running the JTR's full range and blending the subs (once you find the right location and height) is what it will need.

Lookin good 👍.... progress.... I would never claim to know more than Anthony at GIK but I have to question the absorber/diffusor’s. Those shallow cut outs just wouldn’t seem to make a whole lot of difference. I was always under the impression that a sonic diffuser would have more of an impact for breaking up those sound waves. 🤷🏻‍♂️ and you don’t have any 🤔

Those GIK impression series are absorbers with the slots on the front scattering some of the mids and highs. They do actually make a audible difference. I've got similar ones from a different company with a different design on the front. I've also got 2 GIK PolyFusors which are curved hybrid absorber diffusers. They diffuse the sound more than scattering.

I know this is a super old video and I apologize if this has already been addressed. It seems like the monster bass traps helps ever so slightly for the FR in-room (didn't help your already very impressive spectro-decay) but what you're room really needed was GIK's tuned membrane traps. Specifically their T40 traps. They would help significantly tone done your bass decay under 40hz, at 40hz, and just over 40hz. Like, those tuned traps help tremendously. Don't know if they were even available 3yrs ago. But FWIW, good info to have.

Hello. You should use the same type of sound reflection damping mats as (Linus Tech Tips) used. Can never imagine that these three plank / box variant will work so well! If you are going to have something on the wall then you should have something that works well and not something that works halfway. (Linus Tech Tips) also measures the room before and after sound acoustic treatment with microphone. Go watch his videos which are fairly new.

You need to stuff that entire area. Not with panels but insulation material in fabric bags (kinda like multiple massive DYI pillows .. as many as you can fit).

Gik acoustics, are brilliant with assisting you with your needs, but on the other hand they are a business, I understand their is sometimes the need to use such acoustics, but when is it enough ,then on the other hand I’ve seen RU-vid videos saying there isn’t any need 🤷‍♂️

The first thing I would recommend to sit in your primary, listening position and clap loudly once. If you hear an echo, you absolutely need acoustic treatment.

@@Youthman I’m not saying you don’t need them , and yes my seating area has that nasty echo, so I’m in the process of making some acoustic panels, tbh I don’t think it would take much to replicate the Gik style of panels ,at a fraction of the costs, but obviously you need the knowledge and tools, but I do like the panels you have ,

100% agree you can make the panels and they’re going to sound just as good. I certainly do not have the tools nor the skills to create the design but you can absolutely save a ton of money if you have some DIY skills.

i will tell you something no one considers is insulating the floor under your room makes a huge difference, if you can fill those joist voids it takes alot of boom out. even pink insulation doubled up works great

If those bass traps behind the speakers are foam, I can tell you know that , that will not make any real difference at all. Foam DOES NOT reduce or attenuate low frequency. HOWEVER if these trap are diaphragmatic , then they will work

GIK does not use foam, they use insulation like most acoustic panels are made of.

Too bad their customer service SUCKS. Always in a hurry to hang up plus I filled out their form and they were supposed to call back within 2-3 days. ITS BEEN 2 WEEKS 👎🏻

Yes they have some issues but you can DYI or find panels from another company. I had a bit of a wait but the product was high quality.

I found them to be very responsive and helpful. I used the room visualizer, put in some very basic information, and had several emails back and forth with GIK over the course of two weeks while I tweaked my room layout and panel setup until I got exactly what I was looking for. The only negative is that my order got delayed another several weeks due to supply chain issues so I don't have my panels yet but that's entirely out of their hands.

I’ll take a small room over no room any day. We bought this home 15 years ago and converted one of the rooms into a dedicated theater room. We absolutely love it and the truth is, i’m not here to please the Internet. But thanks for sharing. 😉
