I've Installed a rough country 2.5 inch lift kit on my 2015 jgc and l've found with the drivers side front that when I have it on jack stands that the wheel seems to bind up and not rotate like the passenger side does. It turns maybe an 1/8th of a turn then locks up on the drivers side. When it is on the ground it rolls ok 🤷‍♂️ but yeah passenger side was a breeze to install but drivers side was twice as long.

What's the biggest tires you can go with, with the 2.5 lift kit?

Sorry, I really don’t know. Probably, 31”

Sorry, I screwed up and delivered the truck back to the owner without getting good footage of the truck. I have since changed how I film my episodes of this type.

Quick question, when you compress the shock springs, how much length do they lose? Surely they must lose SOME length, even if just a fraction of a millimeter. I ask because I feel like if you need to compress the spring so much, it will kinda be the same as adding some years of use in terms of spring sag, or am I wrong and it just loses an unnoticeable amount? Thanks!

I’ve been pondering this. I don’t think there would be any long term damage from the compressor, but if so I believe it would be minimal. This is obviously just my opinion, and I could easily be wrong. Once installed, the lift block is really just adding some preload, but this may prematurely reduce the life of the spring. I also think this is going to make the ride a little more harsh compared to the factory setup.

Those "widow maker" spring compressors are sketchy. Branick brand, wall mount spring compressors have been a staple in most shops for years.. Usually find em used from the usual suspects, ebay, marketplachouse. @$2-300 I mounted mine to the side of a 2 post houst.

That’s a great idea, I hate the pretty much every kind of spring compressor I have ever used.

I had a similar problem on a 2004 Jeep Liberty. What I ended up doing was removing the forward most lower control arm bolt. Get the strut in. Losely bolt everything together. Then, I used a ratchet strap to pull the control arm back into position.

I already installed them in my 2012 but the suspension was very hard. My question is, will the rough country shock absorbers be better than these spacers? If someone knows, let me know if the suspension is softer.
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms Год назад
well, I have no idea if stock versus rough country would be better. I suspect the stock shocks would be softer, but I don’t know that for sure. Anyone else know?

Does this vehicle have the novimat load leveling shocks in the rear? They come standard with the tow package
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms Год назад
No, they were just regular shocks. Thanks for the question.

I have a 2014 ecodiesel. The springs are a harder or firmer spring which is why Rough Country says the complete kit with new struts and shocks will not work. I believe it's due to the engines weight vs the gas model. They do claim this is the kit to use and I plan on doing this all soon. Thanks for the detailed video.

A lot of pressure is being put on that brake caliper.
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms 23 дня назад
Thanks for commenting, but I’m not exactly sure what you mean. Brake calipers are designed for lots of pressure. Probably around 1500psi

Wow very detailed and informative, normally how much would these type of lift job cost if you don’t mind sharing?
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms Год назад
Thank you! I would bid that job out in the future at $800. If I did it a couple more times, I could probably get it down $600. But I would buy a bigger spring compressor that could handle the truck springs much better.

2011 V6 Laredo Trail rated. I got the same issue with the front strut. Thanks for this great and honest video. I used a floor jack, and a small binder to pull back the low part off the strut. That was not an easy job and it doesn't fit as easy as RC advertise.

Working from the ground, I also needed to remove axles on both sides . Not enough space too push down the lower arm
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms Год назад
Yea, I can see how that would be. This is definitely not the “easy” job RC makes it out to be!

What were all the torque values you found? Specifically the balljoint on the lower control arm that connects to hub and the steering rod to hub balljoint

Your supposed leave the spring compressor tool on until the strut and shock assemblies are in place and then remove it.
@AllisonCustoms
@AllisonCustoms 2 года назад
No you are not. It’s a strut assembly, it should fit without trying to compress the spring while installing. Second, I have yet to find a handheld spring compressor that is beefy enough to compress these and other truck springs properly. You really need to use a commercial type compressor mounted that is floor mounted (or similar). Just my two cents on all of that, but I don’t think the compressor I used would even fit in the wheel well, nor would I want to have to lift all that weight.
