In this video I install a Dickinson P9000 propane heater in my Four Wheel Campers Project M. This heater has a unique feature where it draws in and exhales all air and fumes to the exterior. It does not create any condensation on the interior of the camper unlike most propane style heaters. I also appreciate the fact that I will not have to deal with carrying diesel fuel around for the ever popular diesel heaters lots of people are using. This heater is very fuel efficient and will heat our camper quickly. We cant wait to begin using it.
Below is a list of parts list with my Amazon links:

Well done! Haven’t seen a Dickinson installed on a 4Wheel PM before. I’ve cancelled out certain canopy campers due to their inability to mount one, and the Alu Cab seemed to be the only one that could take it. Now the Project M joins it! Love it.

Thanks! Yeah it’s doable for sure. I also had only ever seen in Alu Cab but was determined to make it an option for the PM.

Howdy, nice looking install, I’m sure the ambiance from the Dickinson is awesome and super cozy! One item I learned while installing a Propex in our OVRLND camper: the propane regulator needs to be outside your living space as the regulator can vent propane. Also ensure you use the appropriate regulator for your mounting position (horizontal or vertical - learned that lesson too). Lastly you may want to install an explosive gas detector so you’re made aware ASAP if anything starts leaking. Enjoy your camper and hope to see you down the trail.

Those are great points. I’ll look into all those things. And I do have a sensor. But I’ll check on the regulator. Thanks!

Really funny I just ordered a diesel heater for my GFC today. I looked at this one and I think it will be awesome in the 4 wheel camper, but I couldn’t see it working well in a GFC. Nice job as always! 👍
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland 5 месяцев назад
yeah since everything opens up on the GFC would be hard to find a good spot to mount and vent the pipes. Thanks for checking it out though, appreciate it!

Awesome camper and installer. My only thought was the closeness of the exhaust to the tent material. It has been 2 months so assume I worried for nothing. This project M is still my first choice unless I find a used camper shell first. I dont need much for one or two night getaways. Stay safe

No issues at all just spent the night in the snow and blasted the heater all night. No issues with tent material. The project m is unbelievable comfort and space.

I have the 12000 on my boat installed 2 yrs ago. Your install looks nice. The only thing I would recommend is a 12v propane leak detector installed below the unit. As you know, propane heavier than air so will seek a bottom. I bought mine on Amazon and wired to fan wires on the heater.

We are loving ours! And yes we have a propane sensor installed and I tested it to make sure it worked prior to sleeping.

Now that you have gotten a chance to use this thing for a few months, how does it do in the real cold? I’ve heard they can’t quite keep up in the serious winter temps. But they are just so cool.

I haven’t been down in single digit temps yet but in the snow storm I was recently in it kept the camper 68-70 degrees inside the camper.

NICE dude, waiting for my project m to be built. I have been buying up parts and so forth for my build. I am curious to see your solar panel bracket system up to, I did opt in for the tracks on the roof but nothing else. I have looked at over 50 ideas to heat the unit inside. this is def the BEST way to do it. please keep us updated, would love to see you testing this in real world cold temps.

Really nice install video. I was curious about the framing that you cut out but you explained it straight away. I have a project M as well and was considering different heating methods for winter. I’ve used (and still have) a buddy heater and a Wave 3 but I went with a cheapo diesel heater for this season. I may go another route for next year, I always have propane with me but rarely take extra fuel since I typically don’t need it. I really don’t want to cut a hole in the wall for a chimney though since I’ll only have the heater for a few months a year so I’m thinking of exhausting out the window similar to how my diesel heater blows in. That flame burning in the Dickinson looks fantastic! WOW this is a long comment.
@prospectoverland

Diesel heater is deff the best bang for the buck and simple/no invasive install process. I just wanted the real flame ha.

@@prospectoverland Nice. That's encouraging. Looking forward to hearing how it works out for you guys long term.
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland 5 месяцев назад
@@NYTAZ145 the outer pipe does get pretty hot. You don't want to touch it for very long. I think if foam was directly touching the pipe, then yes it would melt the foam some. I don't have any foam in the spot where it comes through the rear wall so no worries on that part.
@PatsTravels
@PatsTravels 5 месяцев назад
Very clean install. I assume the clearamce required from the chimney to the canvas is minimal and there is no way for that exhaust air to get back into the camper
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland 5 месяцев назад
Thanks!....Great point but enough clearance as to not heat up the vinyl and no windows in that section so no worries about exhaust coming back inside.

Hey man! How many inches long is the pipe on the outside of camper? How many inches is the chimney away from the camper vinyl? I’m installing mine this month and would love to know! Thanks
@2WR467

Does the exhaust heat harm the canvas at all? It’s right next to it…
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland Месяц назад
Zero issues. The exhaust pipe does a very good job. I can almost touch the metal with my hand directly. I can hold my hand a 1//4 from the outlet and only mildly hot air comes out. It’s a dual layer pipe so the outside of the pipe is the cold intake air. Interior center of pipe is the hot air exiting.

Hello, I’m doing this install on the project m using your links. Do you add any gasket material between the steel pipes and the Dickinson? Or do u just snug it
@prospectoverland
@prospectoverland 2 месяца назад
The included flexible pipe that Dickinson sends slips right on top of the heater. If you are talking about the other connection, the steel exterior pipe slips inside the larger flexible pipe. Look up GP factor also. They sell a product that can also give ideas for install styles. Just as a reference.
@livebrando

Do you add any rtv sealant between the steel pipe and the flexible pipe? To prevent exhaust leak?
