Installing an electric or manual choke can make engine start ups easier on your muscle car. These steps show how to install and adjust both types of chokes on just about any type of vehicle.
I have installed many Holly carbs and not one time have I seen a working manual choke. I set it just the way the instructions say and I close it even half way the engine stalls. Electric and thermal no problem. on any fords 65 to 73 connect the positive electric choke wire to the STA terminal on the alternator.
Thank you for this detailed explanation of the carburetor Choke, which I followed in my old Nissan Jeep. After installing it, I did not feel any problem in operating the engine except that there is some smoke coming out with the exhaust before the engine warms up. Is this something normal? Greetings to you from Riyadh.
What about the parts included by Holley that get attached to the throttle shaft? Please provide instructions or at least a view of them installed with the choke housing clearing them.
I'm pretty sure you are wrong about hot air chokes not being compatible with Holley carbs. I have a factory Holley 4150 on my IH 392. It has a hot air choke
With my manual choke cable. I USED THE OUTER PART OF THE CHOKE CABLE. TO STOP CLOSING. WHEN YOU PUT THE CHOKE CABLE IN BRACKET , THAT HOLDS IT ON CARBURETOR. CLOSE THE CHOKE BLADE. WITH ABOUT TO ABOUT .070.AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHOKE BLADE. THAN WHEN YOU PUT THE SMALL INNER CABLE INTO HOUSING , WHERE YOU TIGHTEN THE LITTLE SCREW. BUT SLIDE OUTER PART OF THE CABLE. SO IT STOPS THE CHOKE LEVER FROM CLOSING. AND STAYING AT YOUR .070 SETTING. YOU ADJUST IT SO WHEN ,INSIDE YOUR CAR. JUST PULL KNOB.
adjusted my manual choke on my 4150 as in the video, but the high idle isnt high enough? I adjusted the high idle screw all the way but it is not enough to keep it running?
i have a toyota coaster BB10 1977 it has a holden 202 motor in it from a WB car. automatic choke has no wire on it where would it go on to. i need to put petrol in the carby to get it running all the time, the coaster is not on the raod im just working on it. will be a motorhome soon. or do i need a new carby
This video leaves out so much info. You'd think after 113 years Holley would figure out how to write a decent set of instructions, because the ones i got are on a napkin sized piece of paper and almost useless.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"
Yes and no. You can adjust the plate so it is *mostly* open but it will never be fully open with the choke disconnected. If you're trying to get rid of your choke completely just grab the choke plate with a pair of pliers and pull it out, leave everything else in case you decide to go back to it
@@topcan5600 Hey thanks very much. Good to know I didn't burn myself. The new one should be here in a day or two. Now I feel god that it'll be fine. Appreciate your help.
i wish i new that there was an option for the manual choke because i ordered a 465 for my rx7 and it comes with a manual choke stock so now i have to run a separate wire for the choke
ALVIE78744 It cant go to the battery because it will run you batter out of charge. It needs to be a ignition connection so when you key is off the car is off.
ran mine to my fuse box and put a thin slide connector on the end and slide it in with a fuse thats for something minor like cigg lighter or radio. you just want to connect it to something that when you turn the key to the on or acc position you have power. ONce everything is hooked up turn key to ACC for about 5 seconds then crank it up.
past Michael Wire it to a switch.. but idk if you put it on the ACC which is accessories. I get it that you can wire it to where if you turn off the key, it won’t burn the choke. I want examples. 😂 6 years later and still no answer!
Not really they have better secondary adjustability. Fucking with an edelbrock secondarys from the factory settings ruin it damn near. Basically you leave alot of top end tuning on the table. Not to mention it has an awful float setup which makes adjustments to it kinda guess and hope your right and if you have any fuel pressure changes you gotta go back in and adjust it. You might not get the same bolt on start up as an edelbrock but you can really fine tune the entire rpm range with a holley and if youre patient and dont mind doing some learning and trial and error its well worth it.
AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO LOOK FOR SOME Little line ., marking . that HOLLEY . TOLD YOU PUT CABLE SHAFT, INSIDE THE CAR.BECAUSE WHEN YOU PULL ,. THE CHOKE KNOB, It will stop to the setting , You set UP ON THE CARBURETOR.
