Installing a clutch so that it is properly aligned and will perform as designed for its intended service life. - from the 74 f100 roller 5.0/T5 Swap series.
Stick the pilot bearing in your freezer for a couple of hours, set on a nice cold can of beer, take it out to the garage, and quickly install it. Works great!
they arent registered. i have the real plates in the truck. did the same with my 65 galaxie. drove it all the way to VA and back. no one ever stopped me
I probably should have mentioned that I had done that. Sometimes I just assume people would know to clean off the oil. - you are right. Probably should mention that
ThunderHead289 I know you are quite capable but some people are looking at this as a tutorial and not cleaning that stuff off will glaze the clutch disc surface.
@@ThunderHead289 It would have been nice. I put my clutch in like the video said. I noticed my new flywheel had oil on it so I soaked the middle disk in oil. Now my clutch won't engage when I had it?
Very helpful. I know jack about trucks and cars and taking on a F100 project with my 16yo daughter. RU-vid mechanic all day! Sxs ATV’s, snowmobiles I got you! Trucks not so much!
so a 302 motorplate doesnt fit a 289 engine? i have bought a 10 inch flywheel for the 289 t5 conversion and the plate between motor and transmission is from a 302
luke i need help. i have a 95 f150 with the 300 inline 6. i have to replace my clutch and am worndering since im going to the 11 inch clutch what size bolts go in the pressure plate. the fly wheel is pre drilled for both 10inch clutch and 11 inch clutch but the pressure plate bolts are a diffrent size.
I love all those new parts and that's a nice diaphragm the style pressure plate you have there I've rebuilt the old 3 finger pressure plates on the floor with a bottle jack underneath the truck because I didn't have a press
i was tempted to use that free ten inch unit i had sitting there, decided against it when a whole entire new set up was so darned cheap !!! 80 bucks for everything, and i like the clutch finger style better for throwout bearing life
The flywheel size depends on your bell housing size , the 10.5 and up ( truck size, maybe bronco) won’t fit inside of a 83-93 z3-z6 bell ( maybe far back as 79-93) , I had to use the ten inch but157 t flywheel , and if so you’ll have to go a 3/4 starter or nose ( instead of the 3/8 if you can find one , power masters the only one I know of that has one for that t5 swap
Nice job. Your bracelet and ring were causing me some anxiety. I always take off my rings now after having one get snagged off my finger. Fortunately only a bad abrasion but my brother in law lost part of a finger when his wedding ring was torn off.
Im doing the same thing in my ranger 4x4 roller 5.0 and having trouble finding my clutch setup what starter would i need to use with an 11inch setup like this? And if you have links to the clutch and flywheel that would be greatly appreciated. Also someone told me the transmission 4x4 variant of the t5.
Just a few notes for others that might be doing this on a late model 302: The flywheel bolts go into the crankcase, so make sure to use the thread lock as a sealer. Or as ARP does in their kit, use threadlock on the threads and a sealer under the bolt head. Second note: early model clutches use SAE hardware, late model stuff uses metric. And with metric you usually have three dowel pins in the flywheel for the clutch to sit on. Hammer or press the dowels into the flywheel before mounting the flywheel onto the crank.
@@dri50 my bad. will red loctite create an oil seal? Because the crank bolt holes go through into the block. I was going to use high temp thread sealant.
There are a few different types of clutch mounting hardware - there are units where the shoulder of the bolt locate the clutch. I never had any vibrations, it’s still in the truck today and did the full power tour 2019 3000 miles without issue. Put probably 30k on the truck since I put this engine together for it.
It’s a t5 5 speed I’m putting in my z28 1989 going from the 4 sp auto to the 5 Spd and idk if the flywheel I got is the right one or not or if the drive shaft will fit
Every Ford is/was equipped from the factory with pressure plate dowel pins to precisely align and positively locate the pressure plate on center to reduce vibration, prevent fastener and clutch failures. They are also there to share the torque loading in shear. Usually Ford OEM and many aftermarket replacement flywheels do not come bundled with new dowel pins or fasteners, however they are available separately from Ford, Ford Performance and the aftermarket such as ARP or from a decent machine shop and are well worth the cost.
victor correa something is definitely weird now I can't find this channel at all not in my subscription list not on a yt search I only knew about this video because I seen it on G+
ThunderHead289 that's the weird part it said I'm still subbed...when your channel finally showed back up on my subs list....only reason I knew about the video is I stumbled across it on Google +....when your channel wasn't visible on my list I couldn't even search you out....it was as if you never existed on yt
