The beauty of this video is it’s a normal guy tailoring the perfect bike to meet his own needs despite what Honda might think! Should show the endless ebay and Google searches we all do as well 👍🏻😂
Appreciate this is a few years ago now, but my new AT which I'm due to collect next week, had the big screen on. The dealer kindly swapped it for the shorter one!
Put one on mine Richy also had Crescent Honda in Southamton make me a comfort gel seat rally happy with both and has made bike much more comfortable hope you enjoy your time with the Africa twin bud
Interesting how we love to tweak the bike to suit us better. I have a 2018 standard AT and swapped my screen for a Puig that’s the same height as the ATAS. It sorted my buffering issues. I also added the fork shield, which goes between the tank and the bars to stop the wind coming up the fork channel. Combination of these two things made a huge huge difference.
RichyVida there’s an easy test- just by making a cardboard template and secure it with gaffer tape. Ride a few miles at speed with it in then rip it off and repeat. You’ll know instantly if it made any difference to your ride.
Keep fine tuning to your requirements honda should be pleased your helping so many potential buyers who may be can't make there minds up to buy answering there questions, you never know you might even get the bike offered to your good self at a great price
I’ve just brought one. Same bike but the electronic suspension version as you had in Scotland! I’ve only done 250 mikes but loving every second. Now the quick shifter bedded in the bike is phenomenal. I’m 6ft4 so screen in low position gives me no issue tbh.
Screens seem to be the biggest gripe for most people, with many different bikes. Ermax stuff is top notch, got one of their screens on my Tracer 900. Like most of their stuff, suits the AT nicely. Another good vid Richy.
Changing stock windscreens on many bikes is an almost essential first modification (because it is easy, inexpensive, and quite fruitful). I ride a tricked-out and refurbished 1998 SuperHawk (FireStorm), and the stock windscreen on a FireStorm is _really_ rubbish. I'm 6-foot 1-inch, and with the stock windscreen, the wind caught under the front edge of my Shoei helmet and pulled the helmet both upwards and backwards. After one trip from Atlanta, GA to Macon, GA and back to Atlanta, my neck was sore for more than a week. After I added a Zero Gravity Dark Smoke "Double-Bubble" windscreen, it not only eliminated the pesky, neck-irritating wind turbulance, it also eliminated annoying glare from Georgia's intense sunlight. Zero Gravity and Puig windscreens are nice because they usually cost only around $90.00 US. It is well worth the price and the simple labor to install them at home.
I've had that brand on my burgman 650,worked perfect. You could ride the bike in the shirt even in the cold weather. Cheaper than givi definitely! Good haircut btw! 😁
just taken mine for a ride around the alps, 2500 miles from riddings to monte carlo and back via route de grand alps and route napoleon. The screen was fine (though a bit ugly) but the seat! I'll be getting the comfort seat asap how are you finding the seat on longer rides Richy?
Look up any bike with a oem screen and there is a multitude of comments condemning them...What amazes me is we hand over a lot of money for a bike we change i.e seat/screen/risers/lowering link/exhaust etc...We wouldn't dream of buying a car with that many problems..Its about time manufacturers got it right for at least the majority of buyers.
When I changed the screen for a taller one on my CRF 1000. (two bikes ago!) (I’m 6’7”), The well nuts fell into the interior of the fairing, never to be seen again if you weren’t careful.
LOL Rich. For my riding position and height when I tried the bike I thought the original screen to short. I am 6 ft 6 tall and sit upright. Great bike but as I am still self isolating pointless changing at the moment.
Damn!! shouldn't have clicked that Pyramid link. Sixteen screens of universal accessories, the endless list of things you didn't know you wanted just got longer. Can an endless list get longer?
Talking of changing screens and if we've done it; yup. On my 2015 CB500X I changed the stock one for the Madstad screen and wings, I chopped that in for the 2016 AT which the previous owner had fitted an MRA Vario, which was good and a lot lot better than stock. On my current 8th Gen VFR I changed the stock one for a double bubble from Zero Gravity, the stock one got the airflow right in to my jugular. Horrible. I'm 6ft2 and find that stock screens rarely accommodate me well. Aside from the stock one in the 2020 ATAS ironically, although I still find I'm looking through it and had a similar problem as too on the Scotland trip....you end up having to look round it when it gets filthy.
I have the 2018 DCT Africa twin version and have spent approximately £2k buying 6 different screens, a spoiler, air dam, wind deflectors and 2 different adaptors, but I still suffer the dreaded wind buffeting. The best screen I found was the MRA screen, but it still didn’t give me a completely wind-buffet free ride.
@@uknokianut the best screen was the MRA Variotouring screen which has the attached spoiler, but this still gave slight wind buffeting. The best solution was to remove the screens completely; sounds insane but I did that and rode around without any screen for a few weeks. I also noticed that wind buffeting was worse when the ambient air temperature was warm. I live in Macclesfield and still have that MRA variotouring screen albeit without the fasteners as I swapped and changed so many times that the fasteners and especially rubber grommets got worn out.
Richly, can you remind me of the make of the white vented jacked you bought in the US. How’s it holding up? Keep up the good work (if you can call it work!).
finally got to take a test ride on an africa twin dct last saturday, coming from a VFR, i have to admit the dct pleasantly suprised me. Now only if i win the lotery ! ;-)
Haven't changed it, but I did pull it off to do some other work and lost the nuts in the fairing. Ugh... I came from motocross so the windscreen doesn't bother me at all. I have the 1000l DCT so it is totally different.
The problem with the lost walnuts is a common one. You’re supposed to loosen them only and move them down in the slot and then out. I’ve done the same. Bloody nuisance
Just thought you would like to know after watching your trip up to scotland in the snow on the AT i went and took one out for a test ride, i just love the DCT and now ive got one sat in the garage while i prep it for a trip around Australia, love your videos keep it real pal.
On my ATAS model 2019 I still have te oem windscreen and it is perfect. But your model (2020) is different. And to be honest, I like my 2019 AT model more than the newest version. Have you ride the 2019 ATAS ever?
I pick up my new 19 ATAS this week. Paul - love to know why you prefer the 19 over the 20? I’ve never ridden one - only sat on a standard and made engine noises. This is a total leap of faith after watching countless Richy Vida videos. So Honda, if you’re listening, here’s proof that he’s a valuable and effective influencer! Just give him the damn bike!
@@jboyers1 Just my personal preference. I don't like the "hightech" display of the 2020 model. But I miss the cruise control on the 2019 model ! And the 2019 model AS has more "body" and looks a bit "stronger". The big tank and the soft seat are super. After all, both bikes models 2019 and 2020 are great and very nice looking bikes, that's a fact. Don't forget, they are Honda's and never let you down.
Richy, are you still happy with that screen? I get my ATAS next week and I have the same problem with the original screen, so I think about getting the Ermax myself.
Richy , what is the diff in height with this one compare to the OEM ? I have an ATAS 2020 and too have some issue with the top of the screen right in my line of sight at the lowest position .
Why does everyone stand up on the pegs on this style of bike when they go on even the slightest dirt track road? Why not just stay sat down and let the suspension do its job?
@RichyVida Thanks for the reply but I am no wiser!.. I just don’t get it?? Years ago when I had a 125 scrambler, we used to go off-roading on ex- coal mining land full of slag hills etc and I never stood up. Sometimes it was a pain in the groin when jumping across voids or off rocks etc. But we just laughed it off and got on with it. I’m wondering if this could be the reason? When I watch videos of people doing a review of this style bike, eg a BMW GS etc they always stand up, even riding in a car park! I just think it’s strange.. Must just be the thing! BTW, the new screen looks way better. 👍
