In this video we install some heavy duty roof racks and our brand new Dune 4x4 rooftop tent and awning! We hope you take some tips away from the installation and enjoy the video!
Thank you for this video mate, I'm about to buy that tent with the 50% off as well for my pathfinder and your video helps a lot for the installation! Definitely make some kind of review after you've got experience with it as to the quality of the tent. Keep it up!
Hey mate, was literally looking at the 120 at anaconda today, then searched up regarding the installation and boy what a surprise you've given me, I've got an 05' Prado myself so this video is gonna make instalation easy asf, enjoy the like and sub!
I noticed you bolted the roof rack mounts with rubber washers which is good just don't forget to add a good amount of thread lock glue to those bolts to prevent water leaking into the cabin. cheers!
Hi, I was wondering what you ended up doing to cover the sides of the roof racks so water didn't get through the racks? I have the same problem, with needing to take the black cap off. Great video! Super helpful and clear instructions, tiz a skill! Thanks!
Hi there.. I am thinking about buying the same tent but atm the only size they have is the 140. Do you think the 140 will be hanging over the sides too much? I got the same 120 series Prado as you.
I bought a Prado with tent already installed, but want to take it off until we need it. How heavy is the tent? Any tips for getting it up and down or just brute force?
I reckon it should be possible to mount the tent straight to the roof rails, as it would sit neatly on the rails, would just have to sort out some brackets.
Hey mate me again, I'm in the process of installing mine as well and in the installation pack that comes with it I have the M8 Hexagon bolts to go with the U shape stators and seem pretty straightforward, but I also have 4x "M6 T shape slider blocks" with 4x "M6 hexagon head cap screw" and I have no idea what I should be doing with them. The instructions aren't very clear. Did you figure it out? I'm scratching my head real hard lol
Hey mate! There should be 2 bolts with thread per U shaped saddle that you need insert and slide down the track that is mounted to the tent to then attach through the straddle that goes around your roof rack that then screws on with plastic capped screws if that makes sense! The track on the tent has some provisions for the threaded bolts to slide into so that they can be moved along to where you need them to!
Hello!! What size did you guys go for. My partner and I are debating if we get the 120cm or 140cm. I think both would be fine. My only worry with the 140cm is that it would be to wide for the roof racks? Thanks!!
Super great question and brilliant reply. I'm FINALLY convinced to get the 120. For $750 (July '23) its such a bargain, it just can't be overlooked! Thanks for posting and commenting 👍
I have a 2005 Grande and just bought the 1400 for $849, great price. I converted my old 90 series Prado into a sealed offroad trailer by chopping it in front of the B pillar and enclosing the front. The roof top tent will be permanently mounted on top of the Prado trailer with the opening on the passenger side. The 120 has an Anaconda 270 deg awning on the passenger side as well.
The base is flat and has two supporting beams to mount it to, we just used two pro rack heavy duty cross bars. Super easy to mount to and a lot less weight then buying a flat rack. Not much point to a flat rack either when the rooftop tent takes up the length and width of the roof!
Nope they have a dynamic rating of 100kg (the tent is around 45-50kgs) dynamic meaning whilst moving and driving. The actual weight they can carry when static (e.g whilst not driving and parked at camp) is over 220kgs. This is where people get confused with load ratings, often the rating is for whilst moving!
Hi there, the height of the tent packed up at its highest point is around 22-23cm, which is quite low for a RTT. Obviously the height added to your vehicle is dependent on the roof racks you get but I was pleasantly surprised on its low profile!
Hey mate! Do you park ur car outside, if so is the cover fully waterproof? Has the cover faded from the sun? I’m considering getting a waterproof and anti fade spray.
Hey mate I park undercover so can’t comment on the fading, it’s definitely waterproof tho but putting that added protection on to stop potential fading is probably not a bad idea!
Wandering Off Track yeah mate it’s a good idea, just wanted to ask how does ur tent go in the wind? Does it flap a lot if so, any recommendations to control the issue? Thanks again
Going amazing so far! Have used it for quite a few weekends away now and it’s so simple and easy to setup and pack down! Makes camping really easy and enjoyable! Have nothing but good things to say about it so far! The only thing I would note is that the mattress is more on the firm side so we have added a mattress topper to help and now it’s perfect for us!
