Good informational video and nice boat! Arimas are great boats! Here in Nordland, WA we see close to 100 Arimas a day during salmon season since we look out over Admiralty Inlet, which is one of the best salmon fishing spots in Puget Sound. One tip for transducer mounting though: take a piece of 3/4 or 1 inch thick, 3x8 (or another size) starboard (HDPE) and smear a marine epoxy like Six10 on the side that will be against the hull, then take 2 screws and mount it where you want to mount your transducer. That way you can mount as many transducers as will fit on the piece of starboard or move your transducer around to work better and the whole time you only have drilled 2 holes in your boats hull. It is a great way to protect your hull from having holes drilled in it and it gives you much more flexibility (comfort and confidence too) to change how your transducers are set up. It was a huge help to me.
Great Video Mike! One tip that I received from a Pro over the years is that using the old cables to snake the new ones is not always a good idea, (I used to recommend using the cables myself), here's why, many modern boats are built in two parts with systems run in the hull (and usually anchored in place with zip ties or other wire anchors) and then the deck is layed on top of the hull leaving many of the wire anchor points inaccessible. Tugging on the old wire could cause other wires or cables to be disturbed in the process cause more issues with other boat systems, especially if the transducer was installed in the factory, the Pro tip is to leave the old wire in place and run a new one with a fishtape, that way there is less of a chance of disturbing other wiring. I have a 43ft Black Thunder Power boat with the Simrad GO9 XSE is it OK to mount the the Totalscan extended Transducer to the stern with High performance twin engines
You cant level a tranducer in the driveway without putting it in the water first with a level on the side of the boat with some spare change. Raise the back of the level as close to level as you can the way the boat sits in the water with some change. The go home and jack up the boat with level and change as it was in the water. Then go level your transducer.
Sorry Mike. I submit that your video is ... poor. WHY? The most important step of the install is correctly sealing the hole(s) going into, or through the transom. Wood boats or those reinforced with wood at the transom may start to rot at this point given an improper install. And IF sealing the transducer to the transom is grossly improper, the boat might sink, especially if left unattended for some time. NEXT: Do Use 5200 instead of the less-sticky 4000. Be more than generous with the 5200. (Don't worry, the seal can be broken if need be with patience and a heat gun). You want it to squish out Big Time when you tighten the bolts down. Before inserting the bolts make sure the bolts are totally covered with 5200, too. Clean up is easy with paint thinner and paper towels or shop towels. This is the most important part of the Simrad install. A failure will likely get blamed on Simrad and not the installer. This is the critical part of the install. Get is right and you are happy. Get it wrong and you will likely bad mouth Simrad for the rest of your days.
