Installing a Wideband O2 Sensor and Tuning the Carburetor | Chevy C10 ep. 18

Just as the title says, I install a Bosch wideband O2 sensor and an AutoMeter analog AFR gauge into the C10 shortbed conversion project. I also improve the previously done exhaust to remedy the exhaust leak, tune the carburetor, and take it for a little cruise.
I used a new camera on this one. Major upgrade from the GoPro. I realize in the first half of the video there was a clip on the camera that makes an annoying rattle. I figured that out quick and got that off of there. I hope you dig the new look.

Awesome install video. "Finishing" a project car now, will benefit a great deal with an AFR gauge for tuning and peace of mind!

Well done, I just ordered the same unit from JEGS for my 72 C/10. Going to use it to dial in a Holly 750 on a 427 BBC. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the informative video. Well done. Some of the small things you did maybe common sense to some but not to everyone. I too learned from it. Great job. Don't let the critics over take the positive you showed. Awesome job buddy Cheers

I'm about to put one of these in my 69 C10. Great to see how you did yours. Cheers from Seattle

Important note here is I can tune a carb by ear so it drives acceptable but living in an emissions state I quickly found out close enough is not close enough for the dyno emissions we have up here in Colorado. Widebands make it easy to tune for emissions if you understand air fuel ratios.

Absolutely. I am not really skilled tuning a carb so this has made it much easier

paulk_c10 Widebands are awesome for getting that extra edge on a carb tune. At first I felt they were expensive and not needed but I have learned they give you an extra edge and let you get it perfect. Keeping these old cars on the road and running great is awesome. Thanks for providing people with knowledge to do so.

You sold me. I'm definitely buying a digital AFR gauge.

I am building a 1967 El Camino Drag Car. The motor is a 496 Big Block making 758hp but planning on a tunnel ram and a compression bump to make 850(I hope). I just backhalved and full roll-barred the car. :) Since it will have two carbs I want to jet the carbs to achieve a proper AFR. I may use multiple sensors to LAMBDA each cylinder. How is your gauge working out for you? What AFR are you running?

I'm here for the tuning the carb part. where is that?

I just bought this same AFR gauge. I know it has been 5 years ago since you installed it, but do you remember if you wired the gauge light directly to your harness or did you attach it somewhere else?

As you probably know by now, those radio delete plates and clips go for a good bit of money. I got $90 for my delete plate w/clips. I almost cried when you cut yours up. I installed my gauge in the dash bezel next to the oil pressure gauge, where there's supposed to be a vacuum gauge. The hole in the bezel is just about the exact same size for the a/f gauge and it almost looks factory.

I see the delete plates for sale all the time for like $15-20. Clips on the other hand are pricey. Nothing magnets couldn’t handle tho.

curious why someone would put an o2 sensor on an old truck? the carb cant do anything about emissions anyway?
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 3 года назад
Has nothing to do with emissions. It’s about efficiency.

Appreciate the video but your editing needs improvement. Music is way too loud. I turn up volume to hear you , (your not speaking loud enough, or need a mic) then get blasted by music. Just something to think about, not trying to be an ass. Also curious why you went analog vs digital? Price? Or to give it an older look?
@paulkc10
@paulkc10 5 лет назад
Appreciate the feedback. I think you’ll notice the change in the newer videos. I went analog bc it matches the tach. I don’t really care for digital gauges. I’m not making big power or boost so it’s not terribly important.

It’s a single barrel carb. Don’t remember the exact numbers, it was a while ago now. Idles around 15-16 but cruising at 12-13

Not necessarily. If it’s data logging into a computer or if you are running fuel injection - then yes.

@stevesolo16

No, it's not necessary. Fuel goes to both sides of the motor equally. And, barring any issues, like a bad cylinder, the single sensor is sufficient. It does need to be placed in the correct spot though. Your headers must not have an air leak anywhere.
