A wideband oxygen sensor is a great tool for monitoring your engine's health and performance. We installed Holley's new wideband O2 sensor in the Horsepower Monster's project Camaro and look to see how we can use it to dial in the carburetor.

Cruising at 12.5 is way to rich, it was better before he touched it, you should jet for cruise, power valve will open when you stab it and that should bring you to your 12.5. The best way imo to tune the carb is. 1. Setup ur idle mixers aim for smooth transition when you give it stabs, (example mine idles at 13-13.5) 2. Square the jets (block power valve) and do full throttle runs aim for 12 to 13 a/f. Or whatever gives you best mph at the track. 3. Install power valve (size power valve to driving style, not the BS about half of vacuum crap) and lower primary jets, aim for 14 to 15 a/f ( don't worry at cruise there is little load on the motor to do any damage). 4. Do full throttle runs and open up the power valve channel ristrictors until you get the same a/f as in the first step. 5. Size accelerator pump squirters for smallest size before it bogs. (In orther words don't put a 35 squirter to cover up a hole due to poor transition in the idle circuit). Your car should run clean and hard under full throttle. At least it works for me!!

So what's the best way to size the power valve?
@blubu68
@blubu68 7 лет назад
***** Size power valve based on your vacuum at cruise speed, usually about 2000 rpm. If your cruising at say 12"Hg and you hit the throttle record the vacuum at that point. So if it drops to 7" than install a 7.5 power valve. That way you will get the extra fuel when the engine loads up. Don't worry about idle vacuum the power valve feeds the main well which is than fed by the boosters. You don't idle on the boosters. You could remove your jets and still idle with no jets in the carb as long as you don't crack the throttle.

Ah, I see. That totally makes sense. Yesterday I replaced my exhaust on my 360. It WAS dual exhaust with no H or X pipe with 2 chamber muffler going out the back. Now it's an X pipe dumped before the axle with the same mufflers. Now I feel that my Holley 750 DP carb is out of tune due to the exhaust upgrade. Perhaps more scavenging so more air?? I can close all the corner idle screws and it still idles and actually idles better and with the most vacuum. Almost 15 Hg. I didn't think that was right, so I turned it out one full turn. It drives great though and idles at 950 RPM with a XE268H cam in it. I can pull 15 Hg at a 1000 RPM idle. I had high idle issues previous to the exhaust upgrade, but last night I realized that the secondaries were cracked open a bit, so I backed off the secondary adjustment screw all the way so it's fully closed. Doing so got me to a clean 950 RPM idle. Carbs are black science. I didn't even know about that secondary screw until I started researching the hell out of Holley carbs.

Been awhile since this post but I have recorded my cruise vacuum to be 22 in/hg. Still trying to tune it. I opened up the idle air bleeds and got a cleaner idle and responsive mixture screws but my transition is lean. My IFR was .031 but I opened it to .032 and will give that a shot.

I have never seen a second gen Camaro with a column shift, and I've owned two of them plus most of the gearheads I knew had a Camaro or Firebird. Good vid on tuning tips with the A/F gauge.

@mback12000 6 лет назад
While the general comments about the gauge are spot on, this is pretty misleading for any inexperienced tuner. Shows part throttle driving and says AFR should be mid 12s...thats too rich and neglecting comments on power valves makes it oversimplified.

I am installing a Holley street avenger carburetor into my 87 Z28 with a 305 in it. How much hp do you think that I will gain after ripping out the old 80s emission hardware?

Nice video. Question, why aren't you showing the jets on the back bowl? It's a double pumper HP carb isn't it? Under hard acceleration, the fuel tends to roll out of the front bowl and the jets require extensions, too. I was hoping you were going to go into a little more detail. Could you do a video with a little more tuning tips for N/A cars?

The most this video showed me was that there's a tool for jets. As far as how to tune a carb this was a fail. No explanation on what the Guage is doing. This video was made for people who already know how to tune with an afr Guage. The comments are more helpful than the video.

you need to be on cruising speed at 14.5-15 and full throttle round 13..

if i am too lean at full throttle am i going to change the jets in the front block or the rear where the secondaries are?

It was cruising and 13.5 almost 1 bar which is actually fine,....a lol richer than leaner plus it's not a steady as you can see it varies not like a fuel injection which is steadier because of the manifold

I have a triumph spitfire with twin SU HS4 carbs,after i rebuild the engine and g/box most of the resto will be done,i'd like to fit EFi etc,but the carbs are nearly new and i want to tune using lamda as stoichiometric gauges don't know the fuel used,so the O2 in the exhaust should be the best measurement point for tunning,should the holley O2 meter work on any petrol/gas engine. I know the displacement is far from my 1500 or 1300 engines capacity,but isn't the fuel ratio going to be the same per unit value.
@TheHorsepowerMonster
@TheHorsepowerMonster 2 года назад
Yup. You are right that the displacement or number of cylinders doesn't matter. As long as you are burning gasoline, the air/fuel ratio should still read the same. Thanks for watching

Are the main metering jet circuit actually utilized when cruising under 2500 RPM?
@hondatech5000
@hondatech5000 9 лет назад
Main metering it affects even closed throttle mix. It becomes the only source of fuel when operating at throttle angles beyond the idle transition slots.TA's that drop vacume below the power valves spring tension will open auxiliary passages in the metering block.
@blubu68
@blubu68 9 лет назад
patw52pb1 No, if your t-slot is in the right position, you could run at idle without jets and still idle at 14:1 above 2500 you will be on the main jet

does the sensor need to be angle up when installing in the exhaust pipe

It needs to point down so any condensation won't build up around the sensor and ruin it

It sounds like you are either close to the end of the pipe or you are pulling air from somewhere. Maybe a porous weld around the bung?

14.7 is what you should be shooting for at cruise and 11.3 at wide open.

Damn, that's quite complicated!! I am lil new to this carb and efi world...i am a big fan of running traditionally with carbs...but after some videos on carbs seems like carbs can only be tackle by guys who have core knowledge and how abouts of their car mood!! Ummmm...i guess guy like me can't opt for carb but only EFI...fix it and forget it type.
