I'm sorry for the second upload, I was literally in a cafe because I'm in my van right now and I had issues with the internet. You know the struggle..! finding fast and good internet is never easy and sometimes I sit up to 7 hours in a cafe just to upload. I have to catch up on so many videos too x miss you guys more videos coming very soon xx
A little advice If you need to maximize your heat So that you can use less burn time Read up on Hard woods that burn hotter and take longer to burn (Maple / Oak ) And You want the driest wood you can find The best burning fire is one without smoke If you have a damper Once your fire is going close the damper to 1/3 open and see if that is still a good fire going Also after your first layer of thin to medium size wood burns down to coals add in larger pieces which take longer to burn 2 pieces of wood should fill it with just a little room for air ...People with the same type of stove on youtube talk about only getting 45 mins use I have seen 3 hrs on mine and still had to open a window from the extra heat Close off the front of your van where your front wall is If it was me i would make a slide door Less space means more heat Your stove comes with a brass rail on top ..I would take it off so you have somewhere to put on a pot of hot water for tea / coffee A mini fry pan for a egg or even for toast..................And of course a fire extinguisher
You're very cute,I'm doing the van life to and I save most of my money;what part of the country are you from I would love to take you out for coffee or a drink or something
Awesome setup....please wear eye protection when drilling. Ive seen people lose an eye due to flying debris. One guy lost his eye from a tiny infection. Not from trauma.
The van is looking great, good to see another video out. Remember to check that seal between the roof and the pipe. At some point it will fail, it's just their nature. Most RV'ers check and reseal body joints and where accessories meet the body every season or two. I just had to do that on my box truck where the roof meets the curved wind dam. I didn't check it enough and it started leaking to the inside. More problems LOL! Be safe!
There was another Cubic Cub installation video that suggested getting the double-walled chimney pipe to reduce the chances of the sealant drying out and cracking.
Hi great job but you should live an air gap around the pipe on the wood and the roof of the van a least 15 millimetres all round its important.. The pipe will get very hot even with the double wall flue and you can get a rubber roof seal in red or black please take this advice it's so important to leave an air gap
Susi your amazing girl love your van videos. I'm hoping to convert a van next year. I was looking into stoves and seen one where you can attach a kettle type water heater to the flue and then a tiny oven type thingy it was amazing so totally getting that stove for mine and will only be insulating the flue through the roof as the kettle and oven need to attach directly to just the steel to heat up from it maybe look into this system in the future as you love cooking x
Your van is looking so awesome and I love the new heater! Just please be careful, and I wouldn't fall asleep with a fire burning in there. My uncle had one of those stoves, but larger, in their living room in their small home and my cousin fell asleep with it burning and burned the whole house down. Thank god his dog woke him up to get out. Just be careful!
Please be careful using that wood stove pipe going through that wood on your roof. If that wood gets too hot from the stove pipe exhaust, it could cause a huge fire. I would take the stove pipe out, create a thick metal sleeve to place in the hole, then use a slightly smaller stove pipe to put through the metal sleeve and out through the roof. That way any heat from the stove pipe would transfer to the metal and not the wood. There are other ways to repair that issue as well. Regardless, I don’t think it would be safe to use that wood stove without proper protection for the wood framing in your van.
Susi Cruz yes I watched that one but not sure of what type of insulation you used. Was that a flame retardant insulation? If so check to make sure it will keep all heat in. If that stove pipe gets above 112 degrees Fahrenheit the wood in your roof can become overheated and burn. That is if the insulation does not hold all heat in. Just a few pointers I learned while living in the southern US with a cousin that owned a trailer home. We had to learn the hard way😪
@@DJXcalibur Don't worry, she's a bad ass! She's proved she can do anything she sets her mind to and is very efficient and safe, especially when it comes to her van.
My Favorite Video Always, To me you're the first person I ever known that ever had a tiny fireplace in van life it's prove to others that you can have one from you're experience ❣️ 🙂
LOVE IT! I'd suggest getting a wood stove thermometer in order to keep your fire within a safe temperature range and to reduce flue damage and creosote buildup!
Wood stoves are great, fuel everywhere and you dont need it to run all night. For me i have a lot of heavy duty blankets, once you decide to go to sleep the bed is always warm.
I don't drive but if I did by watching your life I would try this adventure in my later years. My children are grown now. Love the stove. I'm really enjoying your videos. Blessings
Susi you are so inspiring, I first became interested in traveling the world and van living from watching your videos, so happy and thankful that you were the first person that introduced me to this kind of living, Ill be graduating high school soon and i plan to go to Ocean Beach San Diego💕
Happy New Year:)!!! I'm so excited for the travels to begin I've been right from the start following you & you inspire me so much & your willingness to not give up even on the hard times during your journey on your beloved van..I look forward to the adventures starting!! & thank you for continuing too post for us we appreciate it so much!!!
Most wood stove installs I've seen on YT use a red rubber or maybe silicone boot over the flue pipe as it exits the roof. The boot is sort of cone shaped and fits tightly around the pipe up top and flares out to maybe twice the diameter of the pipe at the bottom. There is a lip around the bottom and people have used many screws to attach it to the van roof, then cover the screws and the entire bottom lip with some sort of sealant. If your roof starts to leak, investigate the red boot. You mentioned cooking on the wood stove. The top surface is rather small and doesn't give you much room to get a pot or pan on there. Make a template out of cardboard that fits around the flue pipe and extends the top surface area of the stove by a few inches in all directions. Take the template to a local metal working shop and have them cut you a 1/4" piece of plate steel. Clean and degrease the plate, then spray it with high temperature black stove paint. Remove the flue pipe and fit the extended plate on top of the stove, then replace the flue pipe to hold the plate in place. The thick plate of steel has enough thermal mass and will absorb the heat enough to make a good stove top cooking area, big enough to fit your cookware.
Hey Susi Cruz!!! Making progress and almost done. You should feel proud because you've done a great job and it'll all pay off once you get out there on the road. Stay SAFE and Thank you for sharing. 😁 😎
First time to your page, ☺ nice work! I've been thinking of van life. I can live simple, ride my bikes more, hopefully. Your giving me good ideas 😁 thank you for posting this video. I'm going to get caught up on your previous vids☺ thank you again
Susi, you inspire me so much to just take off and do it! You’re such a strong independent woman and your courage is everything! Thank you for continuing to bless us with such great videos of your ups and downs on the road 💕 if you ever come to Canada, please, I would love to meet you 😊💕
Should have got a diesel heater, these wood burners are just a novelty - expensive to buy, install and run plus take up a ton of space. Having to chop wood every night gets old quick. People are drawn to them because they look cool.
@@WanderingNature eBay UK has a few Chinese sellers that sell the Chinese version. They are great despite the massive price difference from the branded ones.
thats a vanagan I've never seen a high top cool thinking of doing the same like the stove got to build my own do to budget and funny how excited you got
Hey Susi! Great video & super helpful for us also aspiring to install a wood stove in our small camper! Do you have a video for your solar panels? What you used and how you installed? I loved the setup on the top and would love to learn about it!! Thank you so much! 😄💜
Does the wood burning stove create more dust inside your van? I love to have one in my future van, but I’m really worry about the dust. Thank you for your video 😍👍
Susi! 👏🏼 Girl! 👏🏼 You keep us all waiting, you better be sorry! Shit! I actually had to keep up with you on IG! Ahh, van is looking beautiful! Your journey is amazing and I'm so proud of you! 😊 you go lady! Doing it yourself, if you cant get the pipe done or made. You did it! 💕💕
Oh Suzi you'll be travelling at the end of this week? Im so excited to see the final product xx well done for all you did.. so inspiring to never give up xx thank you 😘
Nice setup! We just installed a wood stove in our Scamp travel trailer that we live in full time and did a similar video walking through the process! Don't think the 2 of us and our German Shepherd would fit in a van though! haha cheers :)
Hi Sizi, I love your spirit and drive lady. You are a lady after my own heart. That means, I admire your strength and courage; especially doing the work yourself. Even though you have help, you still get grimy dirty for the final beauty of your van home. Many blessings ❣️💞🌹🎁😇💜
I was thinking about doing van life when I get older, but do you think there are a lot of struggles such as dealing with cleanliness if you get what I mean😊
I have the same exact stove... I researched alot and bought my woodburning stove before I even started shopping for my rig, because I am a snow bunny and will be mostly traveling in colder climates, so I knew a woodstove had to be a part of my home on wheels. I have not installed my new cub as of yet, so it is wonderful to discover your channel, as well as your wood stove instillation job... Well done sistah! 👍
Hey girl' it was a long wait to see your progress in the van, but it was worth the wait👍 the little heater is awsome, the smoke stack turned out great congrats girl, you guys make an awesome team together I'm so happy for you guys, but I'M AM DYING to see the van finished, jejejeje, can't wait for your next update video guys, gb be safe.
