So I spend 30 minutes of my life (I am stage 4 cancer metastatic) watching you do gauges. In the old days of hot rodding, in the late '60s early '70s, we loved these type of mechanical gauges. Always had three of them mounted under the dash. This was fun to watch. Not the electrical that look old, but truly a mechanical gauge! I've said it before you truly are enjoyable to watch. Good teacher for sure.

The thought of dropping metal shaving into the air supply just before the turbo is unnerving. As an aircraft machinist, I would coat the teeth of the tap with grease.

The 2004 and older dt466 have a twin scroll turbo and that spot you picked is right where the divider is, I would recommend anyone looking to do this choose another location for the sensor, everything else is a great how-to, chuck is a great teacher.

I really wish you'd pull the turbo and examine your probe placement. I feel that where you drilled, you placed the thermocouple into the merge divider between the two halves, out of the exhaust stream. It's best to place it in the exhaust stream, in either the rear or front half of that merge. Or place the probe in the exhaust post turbo. Also, those manifolds can and often crack crack where you drilled, so you probably have a good chance of that happening now, so keep an eye on it.

What you've called the olive or the compression fitting does have a name. You're correct in that it is a compression fitting but the compression nut and the "olive" together is what is the compression. That olive is called a ferrule. Pronounced feral, like a feral cat. So that compression type fitting is called a Nut and ferrule. Very commonly used in copper plumbing also like hooking a water line to your fridge for the ice maker using a nut and ferrule fitting aka compression fitting. You're the first I've heard call it an olive. Great Vid and I also agree, great to have and understand what they mean and pay attention to them often.

⚠️ 📢U can't change or cut the EGT "THERMAL CONDUCTIVE WIRE" bc it transmits calibrated thermal microamperage that is converted in the gage via tha analog corresponding needle & numbers to a user meaningful 300F° - 1600 F° temp. Another “job well did” Chuck! Hmm maybe a 6 on “pucker-o-meter” today my man. 😅 Drilling into the cast iron exhaust manifold and the turbo and all. At least cast iron makes small chips when drilling/machining it. The vacuum and grease were a great “hack” as they say now. Always enjoy the entertainment factor to your videos as well. Gauges > idiot lights!! 😅 thanks for your efforts!

I have always installed them post turbo (right after the turbo 😉). I would not want to risk anything failing and being swallowed in the turbo. It would drive me nuts driving and knowing that thing just asking to mess with your day. Again I highly respect and love the work you do. Myself in the early stage of converting a bus as well.
