Great video but please get the cat off the piano. We're in the process of getting this sorted for an upcoming EV charge point install and this is the issue we're facing.

Hi Mainly Electrical, Ben said he tried to cut it out further with a cone cutter to fit the top of the gland in, obviously didn't go to plan 😂 He's given you a little shout out in the upcoming in this week's upcoming video! Vartia Electrics

Why the 6amp breaker?
@deang5622

Possibly optional lighting circuit if you want outdoor lighting over the parking area of the car perhaps. I can't think of any other practical use of a 6 amp breaker.

I believe when buying that BG Garage board it comes as standard with the 40A RCD and two MCBs. The two MCBs that come standard happen to be a 6A and a 32A. The 6A would be left spare as only an EV charger was fitted which will occupy the 32A.

You might find the DNO will only upgrade the fuse and tell you to get the customer's energy supplier to connect up your isolator as they're only allowed to go into the meter in emergencies as its not their equipment. DNO are responsible for the Cuttout, Supplier responsible for the incoming tails and meter itself. I know its annoying and you're trying to do things the "right" way but you might have some hurdles especially with the equipment being installed directly to the wall rather than on fire retardant material.

Hi Jarvik, Your correct the DNO refused to make the connection, the client's energy supplier is due to come out but at a charge of £162. Doing this the "right" way is causing a lot of hurdle jumping. You could also be right about installing straight onto the wall, however we would point out brick is fire retardant material. The EV board is metal and designed for outdoor use, so we are basically ready for them lol Thank you for your helpful comment. Vartia Electrics

@@VartiaElectrics that’s a ridiculous charge. Only encourages sparks to do things they’re not supposed to 😞 You can argue that about the brick, however I will almost guarantee the supplier will install the isolator on the meter board as this is standard practice. Nice one for trying to do things the proper way, sorry you and the customer have had issues!

@@VartiaElectrics I'm baffled by this need for fire boards over non combustable type walls. I've seen a few videos now of people installing a load of large fire boards (for big solar instals) in a garage straight on top of a concrete block wall. In all my years as a fireman I can tell you I did not ever see a brick or concrete wall catch fire 😅

@@northeastcorals Good morning Gaz, Wow what a job, here's us worried about getting electric shocks lol. We agree with you bricks catching fire! but unfortunately as the saying goes "common sense isn't that common" and some work you see unfortunately backs that claim, so we can see why the regulations state this. More than likely it's put in place as a blanket statement to cover all situations. Kind regards Vartia Electrics

@@VartiaElectrics Agreed, even in the fireservice we would have to follow some ridiculous H&S rules, which were there for good reasons but sometimes common sense would tell you they were absolutely pointless for your particular situation but they had to be followed regardless (when we knew we were being watched or were on camera anyway 😆).
