Another video that incorrectly states that you have to get a looped supply unlooped before installing a charger. I can only assume that the majority of videos are from London based people! Many DNO’s now allow chargers to be installed on 60 amp looped supplies as long as the charger uses a CT clamp to rate down the draw of the charger should the collective house draw exceed the main fuse. Northern Powergrid for example have this as their default policy now as they quite often charge the customer to unloop which costs a few thousands. I know some videos are a year or two old and might have been the case then but as this is 2023 video it really needs correcting

Hello Phil, You make a valid point. As you mention many but not all DNO's have adapted to a load management policy, with EV Charger regulations consistently being changed and updated a decision was made to show the worst case scenario, this would cover all basis. We always opt for load management EV Chargers as the first option to minimize time and cost, Ben does briefly touch on the load management facility at 5.15min. Thank you for your feedback. I think I will stick with my ICE vehicle. It will save. I lot of problems.

Good morning Andy, Who could blame you, you can't beat the sound of a ICE vehicle! The aim of the video is just to educate as to what is required when installing a EV Charger, rather than convincing anyone to go buy a EV. We hope you found it insightful. Kind regards Vartia Electrics

Not sure about UK regulations only allow an EV charger unless your have a driveway as I have a London Taxi with no driveway, but our road has off road parking and his person got an EV charger installed on the pillar of the gate and he layers down rubber matting to protect the cable and its ramped to allow manuvore over it. But I don't have faith that ti's rubber cable protection strips will fail, degrade, get vandalised or stolen or how was it allowed to be installed. If other follow suit the pavement can become a trip hazard in masses due to winds, snow etc or electrical if cable and matting get damaged.

Hi Chandresh, Thank you for making this point, UK regulations do state an EV Charger Should not be installed if no off street dedicated parking is available, Ben could have used different wording but does mention this in the video. The EV market is growing quickly, so a solution for anyone that does not have dedicated off street parking is usually a granny lead, hanging out the window or as you mentioned trailing along pavements. This isn't a long term solution as it brings all the hazards and liabilities you mention. We are seeing EV Chargers installed in lamp posts and similar settings, as demand grows we're sure it won't be long before a viable solution is found. Kind regards Vartia Electrics

Thanks for giving us a normal, real-world example here, rather than a new-build!

Good Afternoon Decimal, We are happy to hear you enjoyed the video. We intentionally used a property which would require a few upgrades/ changes as this would apply to most of our clients. Please do get in contact if you have any further questions. Kind regards Vartia Electrics

No mention of the upgrade of cables required for 100Amp cut out fuse, which involves Electricity Supplier, as well as DNO

Good Afternoon Bighorse2, Your correct upgrade of cables will be required if the fuse is up-rated. We were aiming to give information without going too far into detail. Thank you for pointing this out 🙂 Kind regards Vartia Electrics

What about RCD types? the consumer using you are installing into have AC RCD's which have issues with DC leakage
@VartiaElectrics
@VartiaElectrics Год назад
Good morning Chris, Well spotted! You are correct a A type RCD is required when installing a EV Charger. We didn't want to overwhelm with too much information and as it is a simple swap it was left out. Kind regards Vartia Electrics

How are they going to solve the driveway issue if they want us all to go electric? Not everyone has a driveway. Some, like me, don't even have a road next to their house.
@VartiaElectrics
@VartiaElectrics Год назад
Hi Bob, Yes this is an issue for many, there are a few options available if you don't have your own drive. 1. You can have an ev charger installed if you have a dedicated off street parking spot. 2. Rapid chargers are becoming increasingly available. 3. We have even seen (central London) people charging of converted lamposts. 4. EV chargers that can be installed in a domestic setting, with the ability the charge (£) for any users that wish to do so. The EV market is rapidly growing and with that comes the demand for a better charging infrastructure, hopefully we will see some more options become available for people in your situation. We hope that helps Kind regards Vartia Electrics

10kg of copper left oùtside , the thieves will have a field day.
@VartiaElectrics
@VartiaElectrics Год назад
Hi James, 90% of the copper is contained within the armouring of the cable, which is live so the thieves will be in for a "shock"

@@jamespegg6418 Good morning James, It was just a bit of light humour a lot of EV Chargers are now equipped with tampa proof measures. This is not to say it will completely stop thefts but a step in the right direction. Similar to your car being stolen off the front drive. Kind regards Vartia Electrics
