Just finished a large pool and firepit deck area and could not be more pleased. The videos are amazingly helpful- watch them thoroughly, and follow the simple step process, and you will not be disappointed. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Hard work? Yes, but gratifying and well worth it. Also, kudos to Jeff for being so helpful and available whenever I had questions.
It's been a year since I used this product on our pool deck, I followed the instructions perfectly through all steps and used the recommended Lowe's paint in the color Almeria.. It's fantastic and beautiful! Absolutely no problems. I also coated the diving board and it has held up through snow and ice last winter and through kid-abuse all summer in scorching heat and drought and the coating still looks new. I highly recommend these videos and this product. - Dallas/Ft.Worth
how does it hold up on the color? will it fade? I had a grey colored concrete on my deck and its faded really bad and its hot to walk on when its hot so I want to do this so you can walk on it in the summer
Very informative video. I am in the decorative concrete line of work and was looking for instructions like this. We have a job coming up in a few weeks using this application. I will be calling you about the products and the application process. Thanks.
Our Cool Decking around our pool is flaking off and the color is fading out. My wife did the research on what we could do ourselves to refresh (I think that sounds correct) the whole thingamabob. She found you watched the video and told me to watch it. She's a genius and so is this product and your how-to video. We will be tackling this job very soon. We have the knockout you mentioned so I am off to watch that video now. Really an awesome informative detailed and idiot-proof video you made. God Bless You!
Thank you for the awesome comments! Yes definitely watch the “do you have a knockdown?” Video. Although boring, It will shed some good insight . If you do your homework, the job will turn out great. I’d say at least half of all COOL projects are resurfacing existing, tired knockdowns. You need to determine whether yours is too far gone, or simply needs some TLC (has good bones) . We’re here to help you diagnose that. Thanks again. (888) 776-2242 . M-F closed weekends.
Great video Jeff. I was a career painter when I was young and a few pros and cons I hope helps everyone. Pros, rinse the paint with resin, plastic floating around the pool, sealer sprayed with a bug sprayer and backrolled. Material suggestion, cleanliness, and temperature considerations. Areas to consider, use a 1 gallon grid and 5 gallon metal grid in your buckets, it helps create consistency and dunking is messy, use a 2.5 or 3 inch brush that is not the thin version- put the material down and work with it, keep a wet edge per square of cement- use the expansion joints as breaks and roll up to them- avoids all flashing, use a hoe to pull back dirt then light rinse to remove cleaner then use a dedicated brush on the vertical where you can roll the horizontal, listen to the roller regarding how far to go and you can it the dirt edges with the roller spread and backroll to disburse finishing perpendicular to the direction you are backing as opposed to parallel, practice technique with Kool and same method with the seal. The job looks great but much of flashing I refer to will likely appears as the materials age so allowing it to be as close to the same mail thickness would be ideal. Great work. It looked really good just some things that may help a homeowner.
Thanks! Call us if you run into any snags or need some guidance! Remember two nice coats, keeping wet edge, not too thick and not too thin. Temperatures can be 50-83 or so. Don’t drop below 50 , if it plans to, only do one coat per day. Thanks! (888) 776-2242
Finished by pool decking (1100 sqr ft) today at 5 pm and it started raining at 1:30 am, which gave me 8.5 hours since I finished painting. Will my decking be okay since the container suggested to have at least 8 hours between application and rain?
Good stuff n great video. I am a skilled pro in stamped n sealing wiz . I even make my own polymer paints from my pigments. Not a big fan of the overlays . This looks like a winner. Great video 👍
@@garzilla2k480 you’d have to wait on the Sun to naturally cook off the clear sealer, then add one more coat of COOL any color you want. Or you could de-gloss the sealer using a de-glosser . “Liquid sandpaper” is an example . Feel free to call us anytime! M-F @ 888 776 2242. Thanks!!!
@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 I live in south Texas. Cooking things off is what the sun does down here 😆 except today. I was hoping for upper 70s so I could do 2 coats and sealer but it's only 72 (but not humid thankfully). This is going around my large hot tub, which doubles as a small pool to float in during the summer. Just finished the first coat. Loving the look so far. thanks for the reply!
Agreed! Red clay will terrorize EVERYTHING over time. Good thing we also make a fantastic line of outdoor cleaners! (check out “MiracleMist”)Thanks for your kind regards, hope it helped you out !
Triple crown is no joke! I put down 2 coats of Cool and had to cut a bolt I had placed in the concrete. I was waiting to seal it because i had another section that wouldn't use a full bucket and I was going to add another coat to this area then seal all at once. Well it rained and the metal dust from the bolt rusted and stained the Cool. I sprayed the spots with Triple Crown and they disappeared quickly. This is great stuff!
How long does this keep it's new install look? Sealers out here in hot Nor Cal start turning white and look terrible after a couple or few years. Will this installation process work on stamped concrete? How much cooler does your concrete really get?
Our sealer won’t become white unless it gets wet before it cures . Our sealer needs to be re/applied every two years. This will work for stamped concrete but any existing sealers MUST be stripped beforehand using a sealer stripper / remover. Then begin our protocol. COOL! Will not eliminate the stamp’s contours. If heat reduction is the priority, choose color accordingly and you’ll have good results! Thank you!!!
Usually oil base products last 2-3 times as long as water base. Is this the longest lasting product you've run into? How long generally does this last?
Jeff, if you can help with the going rate per square foot for the complete preparation, including pressure washing through the final coat and sealing that would be awesome! Your information on how to identify “bad concrete” was extremely helpful.
It ranges so much, but with everything going up in price lately, you’ll probably want to start close to $4 per sq foot (materials, labor, everything included, “turnkey”). Crack repair, patching , etc are usually a la carte .
I'm in Savannah. Getting ready to put the stuff down this weekend. Brand new slab. Power washed it, now I'm gonna do the Triple Crown and then paint tomorrow. This video really helped!
Nice! Remember to inspect the new slab for white chalky powder ! I have videos dedicated to this “kiss of death”! Call us if you need us! (888) 776-2242 .
@@lison973 Pavers can be a headache when the ground settles or heaves and then you get stuff growing in the cracks. I definitely prefer a good slab if you have the means.
Getting ready to pour a new concrete deck around our pool. We would like to do a roll slate 2' border. Will the Cool coating work with this or is it too thick and will fill in all the impressions so that we don't see the slate look anymore ?
Hi Jeff, I just finished watching the video, I am a Proffessional painter, love this product, One question How good does it work in New York area. It gets really cold here. Thank you
Nice video! Well done! Question, The inter edge closest to the pool water of my pool is a redish color. How could I paint over it with the white paint and it not show through? Is ther a primer or something I need to use before the pool decking?
@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 it looks like old school original cool deck from the mid 80's. It chipping in a few spots and I don't want to drop 10k on this issue...
Hi Jeff…thanks so much for the video it really really helped. It was a diy for me and my husband. Job completed a month ago on a new concrete pool deck.We are so happy with the results. Used triple crown, and Bears Ultimate paint natural white color on 400sqf. Live in Tampa, Fl having 80+ degrees and it feels cool walking over it also soft on my feet. Love it. But have a concern about we only applied 1 coating of sealer. Can I pressure wash and apply the second coat??
That’s wonderful to hear! Thanks for your comment- and great question! I’d would lightly pressure wash using TSP (Tri sodium phosphate, available at any hardware store and very affordable). This will clean and gently de-grease the surface in preparation for another coat of sealback . Please reach out to us with any questions! Thanks again and have a great pool season! (888) 776-2242

Do you have any how this product would hold up in the northeast? I am afraid that the extreme temperatures would cause the system to fail relatively soon.
Is there a product purchase-list somewhere? (down to the small things like tape and tarps) That would be extremely helpful! Contemplating to DIY this myself on our new pool decking. Really don't want to spend another $5k on having it done professionally when I am an experienced DIY'er. Would probably still cost me around $1,500-2k to DIY, but still a large savings.
Give me a call and I’ll walk you through everything! Including the sundry items like you mentioned. You can do this! And I’ll be here to help you along the way. (888) 776 2242. Thanks !!!
Thank you for your input Leah. It’s very helpful for professionals to know what other contractors are charging. If you know the square footage of you job that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks David from Orlando, Florida
I live in south Florida, where it's always over 80 and humid. Any tips for still using this product in that environment and helping myself to be successful?
Apply the first and second coat two separate mornings as we did in this video. Although it may be over 80 degrees, not having direct sunlight and a surface that has come out of “hibernation” (night time) with no heat build up will go a LONG way for You. I had someone the other day saying it was mid-day, 90 degrees, and the product behaved great, HOWEVER he was under a covered patio with zero direct sunlight. Again, that will go a long way! Make sure you use the correct paint also. Additionally, keep the product in climate control environment until it’s time to use it
No, I need to do one. But for cracks, I recommend a polyurethane or epoxy (paintable). These are the "toughest". Grinding / sanding the repair afterwards is a good idea to remove any residual scar tissue. Thanks!
What if you have the first 2 layers down and it rains what does it look like? Do I need to need to to wait longer before I seal? I know I have to wait until it’s completely dry before applying the sealer coats.
Been watching all your videos. I have some mean exposed aggregate and finally ordered your product to do myself. How long to wait after power washing tripe crown before first coat?
Pressure wash/scraoe any loose material. Whatever remains is most likely okay of its older paint. If the paint is new and already failing miserably, surface issues could be the cause (suspect concrete) .
This is a great question. Mostly depends on the conditions during the particular season. Technically speaking, The COOL coating itself cures throughout the course of years. It will continue to get harder. Although you can tread lightly after 1 hr, I'd wait a week (if you can) especially if you're not in the summertime heat & high humidity . It's going through major changes throughout the first 2 weeks, so go easy on it during this time. Thanks!!!! Reach out anytime.
Thank you. I am first home owner and doing quite of DIY to do it at my pace and in my own vision. Our ig is this size a little wider but the concrete is dirty and not appealing. This will make my deck fabulous. Thank you for the transparency and complete tutorial.
Okay - how long can you expect this product to hold up and still look good? Our situation is heat, not cold. Live on the Sea of Cortez, Baja Sur Mexico. Sun is our major attacker, not moisture. Very interested in the product. Believe DIY is very doable given your excellent instructions. I am considering a couple other cement refinish products around pools as well. Well done I notice that you do not respond to inquiries much. So I doubt I will receive a reply. Just know when you encourage people to ask about your product, from a business standpoint, you should give those answers. Good fortune in your business pursuits.

Can I use the porch & Patio floor paint by Berh? It's a low luster, 100% acrylic Latex. I've been having a hard time finding the paints specified in the bucket mix flyer. Thank you for your help!!!
No, you cannot use that. Sorry! A-100 from Sherwin Williams and BEHR ULTRA are my favorites . If you continue to have trouble please call us at (888)776-2242 . Thanks !
You need to treat the concrete first! We can help you but you’ll need to call us. The concrete needs to be treated with a densifier before any coatings are applied . Thanks! I have other videos on this !
Do you have to add paint? Does Cool keep concrete as cool as the other, older products? I live in San Antonio and am getting all new concrete around the pool so will lose the old cool coat stuff on there now. Thanks for this video.
You must add paint. “Clear” is not an option , that’s a common question . Yes the cooling features are significant. Make sure you put a vapor membrane (visqueen/plastic) between the soil and new slab if you’re pouring new concrete. Allow to cure for 28 days. Inspect for chalky residue ! See my bad concrete video and “5 things” video for more info on that. Thank you !!!!’

I have about a 2 sf area where insecticide spilled on my CoolDeck. This was over a year ago, and even to this day it remains sticky. I've tried everything to wash away the stickiness. I would like to repair it, and I am considering 2 options. First, scraping up the old and reapplying new. Is that possible, and if so, is there a repair kit or do I have to mix a whole batch? This was all done by the pool company about 6 years ago, so it's new to me. Second and preferable option is to tile the entire area (about a 10x20 ft area on my patio, which is separate from the pool area). I plan to enclose this area so tile would make more sense. Can I tile over CoolDeck, or does it need to be removed? If the latter, how? Great video, thanks!
Jeff, what if the cool deck has already been painted, do I need to do any other prep before coating aside from the triple crown? The existing paint is not chipping and has great adhesion, its just fading in spots and I want a lighter color. Please advise.
A light sanding never hurts ! But considering it’s been in the Sun and elements for a few years (naturally de-glossed) , it should be fine with triple crown and pressure washing .
I really appreciate you making this video. I already bought the Cool, but not only got lots of great tips from this, but also the color. I wanted a light grey, but couldn't figure out which one. (I also considered white, which is the old & faded color) Seeing that the clear resin lightens it a shade, the Repose looks like it became more or less what I'm shooting for. Otherwise, Repose looks slightly darker and more brown than what I want. Thanks also for the pro-tip of taping the plastic around the pool!
You are SOOO welcome and I’d encourage you to call us anytime throughout your project if you need any guidance! Thank you for the feedback it really feels good to know these videos are helping folks like you. Hope your project turns out wonderfully. @@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 Unfortunately, I tried to do it today with no rain in the forecast and it was a fail. The bucket I ordered from Amazon showed up and did not contain the sealer. Per your directions, I paid close attention to the outside temp and planned it out to do before it got to 82 degrees, which gave me a small window in South Florida. I also ensured that although the temp should have been ok, I kept the bucket in the shade the entire time. Once the temp got to 81 degrees per Weather.com, it quickly became impossible to work with and any attempt I made to finish a section I was working on failed. Now I'm stuck with half the bucket that I'm not sure will be usable anymore. I was so excited to use this, but am super disappointed and am considering just going with something else, especially after the wasted time, effort, and money. The dried texture also feels very rough. I'm sure that would have been somewhat better with a second coat...
@@rgbuckl I hate to hear this! Send me pictures of your order info so I can see which Amazon store it came from. Are you sure you purchased the “bundle”? Have you contacted them? I can help facilitate communications between you and the seller. The sealer is a must. how long does this last on a deck that you always hae water with chlorine splashing on? and can you touch up later with no prep just brush on or does the colar fade over time?
It can be pressure washed, scrubbed and rinsed. You'll want to re-apply the clear sealer every couple of years depending on traffic and UV exposure. Thanks!
Hey Cedric, I'm with the manufacturer of the product, im not an installer. But a job like this with minimal repair and zero coating removal would go for about $4 - $5 per square foot currently. Material and labor shortages , and prcie increases across the board of course will play into this , depending on market. THANKS!
A couple days of good weather is a good idea, make sure to put felt or nylon protectors on furniture legs. DO NOT USE RUBBER. Felt or nylon only . Thanks !
Stamped concrete needs to be “stripped” first. Using a “sealer stripper/remover” product. Very easy to find these. Follow directions! After the sealer is stripped, now begin our 3 step process - triple crown, two coats of COOL, 2 thin coats of sealer. You MUST make sure the clear sealer is removed from the stamped completely. It is ALWAYS sealed during initial installation and often sealed over the years to maintain it. These sealers, although you may not see them as much as you used to, can interfere with ANY water based coatings you may consider. THANKS !!!! 🤟🙏 (888)776-2242
I just bought 11 for 1800sqft, but I have smooth finish concrete, I used the tripple crown, is that enough? I was reading I needed to scuff with grinder if I don't have brush finish on concrete??
Derrick, having a profile or some “tooth” on the concrete most certainly helps with penetration & bond development. Triple crown will chemically abrade and clean the surface but it will not produce a physical profile. It might be a good idea to create one yourself. Just don’t go overboard , don’t “scar” the concrete! Less is more, just open it up in the slightest way, then let triple crown do the rest. Feel free to call us during business hours to discuss in detail . Ask for me , Jeff. Thanks! (888) 776-2242
Hey Jeff I'm a poolmason in upstate NY. I'm getting a bit old for pouring was thinking about getting into this. What do you get per Sq. ft? Great job btw
What products are you using. I have a textured pool deck on the home we just bought it has holes all over we want it smooth and wanna paint it this color. Could you plz give me some advice? This looks amazing btw
Sounds like a “salt” finish to me. Google that. Our product alone would not be enough to accomplish what you’re looking for. You might want to research a product by Stone Edge called “smooth coat”. It’d be imperative that this is installed correctly and cures to completion so it doesn’t cause a bigger problem . Then you would coat it with COOL. When you’re ready, call me and I’ll guide you through that as best I can. Thanks ! (888) 776 2242. Ask for me!
I really appreciate that thank you so much. Yeah we just bought a place in a nice neighborhood in FL never had anything so nice like this but definitely a lot of room for improvement. Would love to get that pool deck up to it’s potential for the wife and kids. Ty

do you have to use triple crown to clean first or can you just pressure wash it then paint? also I have a salt finish concrete so it kind of has those little indents in the concrete
TC is cheap insurance and basically is free if you purchase it with our “project bundle” at www.encorecoatings.com . We prefer people use it . Prep is everything, with any paint or coating you may choose! There are alternative cleaners you could use, of course, but may not be as effective or be harder to use (muriatic acid must be mixed, applied, rinsed, then neutralized… more steps). Pressure washing without some sort of cleaning agent is sometimes okay, but most of the time it’s not. Depends on the surface and it’s condition. Muriatic acid used correctly is an alternative for concrete surfaces . Any painted surface or previous toppings should at least be scrubbed with TSP (Tri-sodium phosphate) before application . Thanks! Here to help anytime (888)776-2242 . THANKS!
Send me some pictures, we run across salt finishes frequently, but want to check out that coping a little more. Send them to jeffjr@encorecoatings.com . Thank you !

I just wanted to if you could answer a question I have a aggregate concrete and I had to pour another piece of concrete on the back side and it ended up being smooth When I put the cool back on or can I make it all look the same

Definitely use the sealer also. You can knock this out for $250 paint included. Call us any time with other technical questions, thanks for the input here !
will this product fade overtime? part of my deck is cover and was wondering if the part that is fully exposed to the sun will look different after a few years if I close to apply it to the entire deck.
The clear sealer is a sacrificial layer that will prevent the COOL from fading . I’d recommend RE/sealing every year if you’re in a high-UV area. Also, some colors fade quicker than others. Blues and reds are notorious for fading first. But the sealback clear sealer has UV inhibitors in it to protect the COOL, which also has UV inhibitors . Great question. Thanks! Hello Jeff, Thank you for the video. I have a couple of questions here: First can I use this product on an old stamped colored concrete pool deck? and second how long this products would last?
Yes, stamped concrete is fine. BUT / you will need to confirm there is no active water repellents (clear sealers). Stamped concrete is ALWAYS sealed with a clear sealer when it is first installed. Often it is maintained throughout the years with clear sealers. Do a water repellency test, see how water behaves on it. Is it beading? Or penetrating ? We want penetration, because COOL is water based. This is a 7-12 year product depending on many factors. Geography, traffic volume, UV exposure, and the integrity of the surface it’s applied on. Thanks for your comment. Any further technical communication is best via email as I often forget to check RU-vid comments! Thanks! Jeffjr@encorecoatings.com
I would only proceed with this system if you employ densifiers from AQURON first . These products will reduce permeability of the concrete, strengthen the concrete , and block freezing moisture from provoking the concrete . If you’re unwilling to do this first, don’t use COOL. Please watch my video “The 5 things that will wreck your project” for more insight . Thank you! (888) 776 -2242 . You can ask for me, Jeff, if you need to chat. Thanks
Good evening Jeff. I have an outdoor kitchen with 4" poured concrete countertop that I had originally water stained. As you know it gets incredibly hot. Can I apply your Cool to this countertop?
Hey Gene , interesting! - I think choosing a light color would be critical, but I’m not sure the non-slip texture would be ideal for a countertop. I’d recommend 3, maybe even 4 coats of clear sealer to reduce the drag on paper towels and rags. Hope this helps. Remember, this stuff is designed to NOT come off, so if you didn’t like the results, you’d be grinding it off...... yikes!!! Thanks ! Jeff.
Do you have contact info for an experienced contractor in the Palm Springs , CA. area that you can recommend that can install? Also, part of my pool deck has some interlocking (sand based) pavers that were put down inplace of an old planter that was oringinally in the area, can this product be used over the pavers, and can it fill in the lines of the paver joints?
Where are you located? Do you apply this coating? I'm just up the road from Greenville, SC. Your product looks like what we need as we just relined our pool and redid some of our concrete. Nice video.

@@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 Contemplating using this product to achieve an equipotential bonding issue. I'm thinking that if the pool water and the 18-24" surrounding the concrete pool deck is "insulated" from the Earth/Grounded that the pool deck and water would be the same potential. I realize this may be above your paygrade, but I think it will work. It will be like standing on a rubber mat. What say you?
What happens if a metal fire pit or BBQ is dragged across this new surface? will it scratch it, peel it off? I want to do this on our 1800 sqft pool deck... but need to know how tuff it is?
Stacey , it is tough and durable, much more so than your typical paint or stain product. Additionally , I tell folks to wait at least a week after application until heavy use. The coating goes through major changes in the first 14 days curing and developing its hardness . That being said, you can scrape and gouge anything if you try hard enough. Is your bbq on wheels? Or do you drag the metal legs across the deck currently? I would recommend retrofitting heavy furniture with protective felt and bbq pits with wheels so nothing can gouge the finished product. If something does happen, it can easily be repaired, but it’s best to be proactive and try to avoid it altogether . Hope this helps! Thanks!

@@staceystandal5830 totally get it! COOL! Is much much more durable than paint or stain. A knockdown troweled finish would also have a color coat on top, which could also get scraped too. I’d suggest putting felt on the bottom of anything sharp / abrasive just to be safe
