I have knockdown that I'm removing because it's old and chipping up. Is there anything special I need to do to prep the surface other then your 3 steps,?
@@LVraider67 not in particular, just make sure your concrete is stable and residue free , if it’s older it’s probably fine. But watch my other videos , the “5 things that will wreck your project” . Thanks!
@@liamd.644 I have not tested any, but I know “ben” exterior has been used with good results. They may have discontinued this paint, I heard through the grapevine. Stick with Sherwin A-100 satin if you have to make a choice. They can match any ben Moore color you may have in mind . Thanks!
He has some great videos, and he addresses every aspect of what to look out for ,during, and after application...im doing 2 color spatters (blue and gold) which is our camp colors...been doing epoxy coatings forever,so im excited to try this product
I just ordered this for 6,000 sq ft pool deck...ill do some videos and pics...had an epoxy chip flake system...had to remove 1/8th of an inch and then ground with diamonds...im also doing a 2 color splatter coat on top...Caden and Jeff are good guys, and Jeff has every video you need to answer any questions....i been doing epoxy and polyurea coatings for 15 plus years....very very excited
So it looks like someone pourd globs of paint on there. Worse than the original pebbles.. If I were the homeowner, this is what I would do if you want cool deck over exposed agrigate that you want to keep. Rent a concrete sanding machine like the professional coating guys use and sand that concrete as flat and as smooth as possible. Then apply knock down texture. Then apply cool deck. Dont apply cool deck on top of that pebble because its looks extremely amateur and sloppy. In the end with the sanding process, it will look just like or almost like a regular concrete deck with texture cool deck.
Getting ready to pour a new concrete deck around our pool. We would like to do a roll slate 2' border. Will the Cool coating work with this or is it too thick and will fill in all the impressions so that we don't see the slate look anymore ?
How long does this keep it's new install look? Sealers out here in hot Nor Cal start turning white and look terrible after a couple or few years. Will this installation process work on stamped concrete? How much cooler does your concrete really get?
Our sealer won’t become white unless it gets wet before it cures . Our sealer needs to be re/applied every two years. This will work for stamped concrete but any existing sealers MUST be stripped beforehand using a sealer stripper / remover. Then begin our protocol. COOL! Will not eliminate the stamp’s contours. If heat reduction is the priority, choose color accordingly and you’ll have good results! Thank you!!!
I sure wish this would have addressed how to deal with loose pebbles. What is the prep process to ensure the loose pebbles don’t create the same results as powder?
@@scotteebee if they survive a 3k psi pressure washing , they’re good to go. Whatever pops up during pressure washing is what could’ve caused an issue.
@@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 Hmmm. I haven’t pressure washed my pebble aggregate. I just know I find little pebbles in the pool all of the time. But, what I’m hearing you suggest is that after pressure washing, I should be good to go.
@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 it looks like old school original cool deck from the mid 80's. It chipping in a few spots and I don't want to drop 10k on this issue...
Can I use the porch & Patio floor paint by Berh? It's a low luster, 100% acrylic Latex. I've been having a hard time finding the paints specified in the bucket mix flyer. Thank you for your help!!!
No, you cannot use that. Sorry! A-100 from Sherwin Williams and BEHR ULTRA are my favorites . If you continue to have trouble please call us at (888)776-2242 . Thanks !
Stamped concrete needs to be “stripped” first. Using a “sealer stripper/remover” product. Very easy to find these. Follow directions! After the sealer is stripped, now begin our 3 step process - triple crown, two coats of COOL, 2 thin coats of sealer. You MUST make sure the clear sealer is removed from the stamped completely. It is ALWAYS sealed during initial installation and often sealed over the years to maintain it. These sealers, although you may not see them as much as you used to, can interfere with ANY water based coatings you may consider. THANKS !!!! 🤟🙏 (888)776-2242
COOL! is nearly foolproof. I just coated my decades old concrete pool deck with exceptional results. This is one of the biggest bargains of any home improvement project you will find. Just follow the steps in the video and you can't go wrong. Email them with any question. They have the best customer service of any company. We recommend COOL! to anyone!
lololol, me and 2 others are doing a HUGE pool deck 200ft of side walk, 3 sets of three stairs with stone on them, around a million dollar pool house, and all of it is broken up into multi sized squares with stone inlays.. we have 24 five gallon mixings of the stuff with white paint.. we finished cleaner and power washing today. we might have sprayed a rock or 2 but i think we are going to seal the entire deck, rock and pool deck..this deck is in a place that will see 3 to 5 months with snow on it and will not see the sun for that time...
Yikes! Have you installed yet? Please call me if you see this, it’d be very wise to densify the concrete first considering the amount of ice it will see and for that extended period of time !
@@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 this is over existing cool deck, we are sealing the side walk tomorrow, the cool deck is not in bad shape considering what is sees. we are pouring stamp concrete in the next 5 years, this is just a beauty patch. we are concrete FOOLS, concrete is our thing, that being said, what we did today looks GREAT, cant wait to seal it, its gonna pop...product is easy to mix, apply, and we are ahead of the time frame the boss thought it would take us.
@@encorecoatingsuniversity3203 i would say 95% back to new, other then shtty Sikaflex and grout lines for the many many stone inlays are old and ugly, other then that, IT LOOKS GREAT. love the product... we are second coating the entire pool deck part tomorrow, then friday seal the rest of it. we definitely will use all 24 buckets for this job and 26 rolls of 2 inch blue tape...lolololol...
You need to treat the concrete first! We can help you but you’ll need to call us. The concrete needs to be treated with a densifier before any coatings are applied . Thanks! I have other videos on this !
Might be a dumb question but..... we've had rainy days on super hot days here in TX. It's hot then it rain hard for like 30m and then the sun again..... can I apply on a rainy day? And or once washed then it rains do I start the process all over again? Should I wait for sunny days? Hot and cloudy days don't work? Sorry for the many questions. TIA!
It can rain after the deck is cleaned . Cool should be applied in the early morning during summer months onto clean, dry, strong, residue-free surfaces. It can rain on the cool if it’s had a few hours to dry. You can wait several days to apply 2nd coat of cool if need be. Apply Sealback clear sealer with at least 18 hours no rainfall in the forecast. If sealer gets rained on too soon, it’ll “blush” and turn milky white.
Pressure wash/scraoe any loose material. Whatever remains is most likely okay of its older paint. If the paint is new and already failing miserably, surface issues could be the cause (suspect concrete) .
I don't get it. Your video actually has an old, exposed aggregate concrete parking lot where you filmed it. Why didn't to use that surface for your demonstration? Like others have offered, my 1974 pool deck looks exactly like your clip art, and I think it's time you provided a real-world demonstration. I can't use this product unless I see it being applied to a real-world example.
If it’s not failing everywhere and it’s in good shape, you can move forward with triple crown and the typical 3 step process . A light sanding before triple crown goes a long way too! Thanks !
@@jourdanwinfrey5008 if it’s peeling in most areas, inspect the underside of the peeled paint. Was the surface prepped correctly ? Is it bad concrete ? Is there any residue on the underside of the paint? This is a diagnosis that should be done carefully or you could see similar results with the next product, whatever that may be. Feel free to reach out through www.encorecoatings.com and you can send pictures . We can help you figure it out . Thanks!
Just finished a large pool and firepit deck area and could not be more pleased. The videos are amazingly helpful- watch them thoroughly, and follow the simple step process, and you will not be disappointed. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Hard work? Yes, but gratifying and well worth it. Also, kudos to Jeff for being so helpful and available whenever I had questions.
How long will a mixed batch of this last, say I can only paint half my project and then finish a week later with the other half, will the sealed bucket of mixed Cool still be good to work with?
How do you go about mixing the 1 gallon of paint for color to the 5 gallons? Do you do it all at once to keep it even and so you need at least a 6 gallon bucket? what is the process?
No, COOL cannot be used as a “filler”. I’ve been told that you can mix 50/50 H&C DURATOP & Non-Shrink grout (then mix w appropriate amount of water) that you can “pour” or float this mix across the aggregate and allow to cure. This will make it all smoothe, and then top-coat with COOL ! . Call me if you want to explore this more! (888) 776 2242 / encorecoatings.com . Thanks !
Hi Jeff! Thanks for this video. I’m located in Tucson. My kooldeck is in decent shape, it’s an ugly color though and I want to coat it with your product. I did the tap test and it all seems to be structurally sound. There are a couple of minor areas that need patched. What is the best way to do that? Do you have any recommendations for me for products or sources?
Sanded grout, made by “PolyBlend” is a great choice for patching old knockdowns! Replicating the texture is the tricky part. Use a hopper gun, or a dash brush to glob / shoot it on there, then “knock it down” using a trowel to achieve the knockdown texture. Experiment on cardboard first before moving to the deck. Thank you!!!
My priority is to educated my customers, a lot of people watching this have never painted pool decks before and are weekend warrior DIY’rs. I want their job to be successful! Hang in there.
I’m grinding off knockdown to bare concrete before applying Cool. Some areas grind down easily other areas do not. Is there a trick to getting the knockdown off in stubborn areas? Will Cool adhere if there is a thin layer of knockdown left behind and if so will it show through after applying Cool?
