What I really appreciate about your channel is that it is about experience and understanding the process versus explanation and instruction. Thank you another great video!
Hi. I love the fact you don’t hide difficulties and hurdles. You respect this old house minimizing the use of modern but inadequate solutions (such as cement even though some has shown up in a previous episode.) This is great job. Cheers. EG
Looking good! When installing joists in a place like this I like to put in the joists on either end and run a string line on top. Enjoy the process and the lessons. Every building is a new set of lessons.
There must be an enormous amount of satisfaction with the accomplishment of the BEAM task. I particularly like the “Pantheon” effect of the light across the beams, it will not be the same with the floorboards down, but the room will be filled with a super light effect. Regards.
You should have put a diagonal fire cut on each end of the joist, essentially shortening the length of the top but not the bottom. They would go in much easier with less compromise on the bearing area. ❤ The size of common joists for a given span is dependent on the length of that span, as it must resist bending. It will break from bending at mid span long before it will break from shear at the wall socket. The joist can be notched to make its height and width fit the existing socket without affecting the stiffness or total load capacity. ❤
Un fixed acro probs are an aciddent waiting to happen ALLWAYS FIX THE TOP so they cant fall over if they become loose or get knocked over it is common sence stay safe. nice job by the way
I think they're untreated spruce/pine, so this would be the natural colour. I'm not sure why you would treat the joists as they should remain dry inside the house (as apposed to something like a roofing baton)
