That second fix didnt disappoint Tom. The D boards are a work of art. I install industrial CAN network and ProfiBus equipment fairly regularly and can see KnX/Dali appearing more often on Domestic/Commercial installs. Great work mate.

Very nice! And thanks for your opinion on ring circuits. I agree 100 per cent, except where a lot of sockets are on a very long cable run, in which case an intelligently layed out ring can be better in terms of volt drop. But even then, one could start the radial with a larger cable, and reduce the size later in the circuit (a 32A could start in 6mm and reduce to 4mm further down).

There are different schools of thought about load distribution in a consumer unit. Personally , I don't put all the high current circuits closest to the main switch by default, after all, how long a time period is a electric shower going to be active in any 24 hour period in a domestic setting ? I tend to balance the loads ( heat wise ) across the consumer unit rather than concentrate them.

Nice, We are getting into the electronic switches too. Wifi switches and receptacles seems to be popular here. Electrical trade is going more electronic all the time as new ways to do old things. Every receptacle in a house here must be arc fault protected so that adds about $1000+ to the electrical installation bill. Love the videos and please keep they coming. Would like to see the mains coming into a house from the utility and going to the meter socket. Conduit is used to the electrical panel.100 amp services here is common for average house with 200 amp for bigger residences. Thanks from this old burnt out electrician in Canada.

Not the breaker as such. The Fire panel circuit is kept separate to everything else, and you can label it with a red ident so its hard to mistakenly isolate it. An engraved fused outlet is installed adjacent to the panel.

The reality is it doesn’t make blind bit of difference where the loads go. It’s just something all electricians do on single phase boards, get to three phase boards or bus bar chambers and the loads will be all over the place.
@absolutebin4611
@absolutebin4611 6 лет назад
It’s always been good practice to install the higher current rating MCB’s closest to the main Switch to descending current loads. We Drive on the left because predominantly most people during the medieval times as of today are right handed. So knights passed each other on the left to utilise their right hands which would draw the swords. It’s remained the same ever since. As your Swedish, you should be more concerned about the cucked state or your nation.

I will only have RCBO systems. Incidentally, whilst I can understand electricians not liking ring circuits, for kitchens, utilities and workrooms 32A circuits are still what's needed for flexibility so make those 4mm^2 radials.
@simonc772
@simonc772 3 года назад
Out of interest, if you don't fit ring mains, how would you wire a socket circuit where you need in excess of a 20A radial?
@anti4354
@anti4354 3 года назад
I don't know if there's something special about UK regulations regarding this, but in rest of Europe you just use 4mm2 cables instead of the standard 2.5mm2. Then again, why would a standard socket in a flat or house be over 16A? Just out of curiosity because I've never seen a standard household socket strip have over a 16A breaker. I would understand for devices not connected to sockets (like air-air or water-air heating pumps) to have over 16A, but never a regular standard socket where you would plug in like say, a TV. As a side note, wire size for household socket circuits are often bigger than 2.5mm2 if you have long lines, because the short circuit current becomes too low so the breaker doesn't trip and one way to increase short circuit current is to increase the cross section.

G'Day from Downunder! RCBO's all the way, we used to have a single RCD protecting our breaker box but everytime something like a kettle tripped it, it would take out the all the power outlets in the house including my IT equipment, so one day when mum managed to get shocked off a light circuit, for reasons yet unknown we said, fuck this, thats it, replace ALL Outlet AND Light circuit breakers with RCBO's, problem solved, next time the offending device tripped out the RCD. it only affected that circuit. RCBO's also avoid the issue of combined leakage currents causing nuisance trips and excessive trip sensitivity. RCBO's ought to be standard these days IMO.

The switches and dimmer you showed are DALI types. Normaly you have to use HV cable, not the green KNX one. Because KNX is low voltage -> 28Vdc. I dont know what your regulatory says about this. In europe its not allowed to use the KNX cable for potential High Voltage devices. And DALI wires have to be treated as they were live wires. We have here 5core cable for that. N,PE,L + DA&DA. For example: NYM-J 5G1.5
@robmc3338
@robmc3338 6 лет назад
I don't believe it's forbidden to use knx cable as Dali cable as the outer insulation is 1000v rated but I agree it's a really bad idea to do and massively is increasing the chance of miss wiring, equipment damage etc......
@c31979839
@c31979839 6 лет назад
That's strange, because DALI here in North America is all 18/2AWG wiring. Dali only has low voltage travelling within the wires. Maybe our Dali devices have better isolation between line voltage and Dali signal than your

looks a neat board, i dont mind a ring circuit myself, like any circuit they are ok if correctly installed, unfortunately these days people want to get rid of them as they are seen as old fashioned i think, not me, Now we are leaving the EU bring back red and black and red, yellow, blue. your right about using rcbo`s, technically thats what we should all be installing as there is a reg that states a fault on another circuit should not cause disruption to another circuit, but its never enforced, probably due to the cost of rcbo`s, although some makes are cheap even the new mcb sized ones which are really good and double pole. @JasonShowell 6 лет назад
Technically nothing but its a lot of wasted cable. The old fashioned way of a ring per floor is just pointless these days. Every room should be on its own RCBO. That is how I wire everything these days and it gives so much more flexibility.
@westinthewest
@westinthewest 6 лет назад
Ring final circuits don't give enough additional capacity to justify the extra work during Initial Verification and Condition Reports when you have to confirm that there are no deviations from the various restrictions in the layout of spurs etc. If the ring doesn't show continuity, finding the break can be time consuming. Radials offer flexibility in their design and alteration. If there's a break in a radial, its presence is immediately apparent. A faulty ring circuit will continue working but the cables will not be protected from overload. Most socket circuits in dwellings are fine with 20A. I might one day do an A1 ring for a kitchen circuit if 4mm cable is not convenient and if the kitchen is close to the distribution board. Running two 2.5mm cables from the front of a house to the rear and back again is a waste of copper.
@zumber2811
@zumber2811 6 лет назад
4mm Radial on 32Amp RCBO is waaaay more practical to use and easy to install.
@ratchet1freak
@ratchet1freak 6 лет назад
it's safe against single faults but one of the failure modes is continuing to work with with reduced protection and with no indication something is wrong. For example when the live get disconnected somewhere breaks the circuit is now a double branch circuit with and a fuse that is rated at 150% of what the wire is rated at. But power continues to flow until the house catches fire.
@JeminoWayde
@JeminoWayde 6 лет назад
If you have a fault near the consumer unit you then have a 20A radial with 32A protection and no indication something is wrong. Two 20A radials are far superior.
