I have tried to do this update via other videos ,but you were the only one that was step by step very clear ,my Macbook is done up to date Catalina thank you
Yes!!!! Last night I installed on my Macbook5,1 Catalina 10.15.5. Just with 4G ram and 240G Kingston SSD, it goes amazingly compared to HighSierra. Now I saw your video, successful, smooth and well explained. I enjoyed the happiness with which you found success. I hope to put the 8G Ram and I will make it airplane.
Now it could run on Big Sur OCLP in 2023...It will support for final windows 64-bit platforms and suited the most compatible for this MacBook type models of aluminum precisely..👍🏻👍🏻
thank you so very I had tried the Sierra install but I couldn't get the image file then I saw your video and decided to try for Catalina OS10.15.7 and what do you know I got it to installed on a MacBook Pro (5,1) late 2008, didn't need to restart into the bootdrive to install additional files it automatically did all those,. even my keyboard which was not working with El Capitan is now fully functional this is so awesome .....Give new life to old things
I did this it boote up and goes to the home screen but when i click finder it says can't open finder and there is no bar at the top and when i click on all my apps they don't open they don't do anything trying to install in my late. 2008 macbook A1278 please reply thanks i need help
ThatRandomTechGuy, I advise the next WARNING to be added. "BE AWARE that you first should save all your doc's and more on the specific Mac before upgrading them to Catalina!"
Hello man i have tried installing up to the post install but when My mac keeps on booting up to macos utilities option, it wont proceed to the desktop.
Hm... maybe something went wrong during the creation process of the bootable USB? Or could it be that you are trying to update or install the OS right when it’s already on?
nice thx for letting us know u love ur channel!! Just unboxed my brand new macbook air 2017 and i think its way better than any 2020 macbook! Hows the boot up time for this laptop and general speed, is it faster than high sierra!? cheers!
Thank you so much for all the praise! It really means a lot to me! 😊 I think that the boot speed is a tiiiny bit slower with Catalina since it needs to load dosdude1’s APFS-code first before it starts booting, but all in all I would say that it’s about the same. 😉
I get a error when its almoste halve way of instal get the error an error occurrd instal catalina , i tryed by changeing date time and date doesnt work is it maby posible that i need first update to the higher mac os b4 doing this i tryed this on snow leopard
No unfortunately this only works with macOS Catalina. I am sure that dosdude1 will create a patcher for Big Sur when it comes out, but for now we have to wait a little longer. As soon as that’s possible I’ll surely make a video about it! ;)
great video I got a 2011 macbook 8,2 all went well until the very end of the download process the bar Under The Apple logo literally only had a minute to go and just stopped and would do not more...I tried 2 times and for some reason it just will not completely finish the install..I will try it again using a ssd instead of the stock mechanical hard drive to see maybe if that makes a difference.. but I'm still lost on why it won't install on to my stock hard drive...
Great video! I will certainly try installing this on my Macbook late 2008 but I only have 4GB of Ram and HDD not SSD. It is still possible to install MaOS Catalina on my Macbook?
I really recommend you to buy the cheapest ssd, at least a 128gb used one for under 30 dollars, otherwise you could use your Mac but with some lags and the boot time could be pretty bad too.
The language setting is set to some freaky foreign language gotta fix it and set it to US English so it’s understandable. I’d bet resetting to English will fix all your issues.
Unfortunately my MacBook Pro (Late 2008) needs a very long time to start since I have installed the update. From pressing the power-button until entering my password 5 minutes (!!!). Is that normal? I have done the installation twice because I couldn't believe it... But it still takes that time. How long does it take with your fathers? It is the same machine as mine...
Well done m8! You actually don’t have to do the post install patches anymore yourself, the Catalina patcher will do that automatically for you. In my case I had to do it because of the different GPU ;)
Bro you’re video are amazing but i had problems at the end, after instal it ask to on internet connection but i had no idea where i to find the option for internet. Please helm me
Does it work on 2008 MacBook Pro and does it still work till now and will it delete the files and the stuff I have on the laptop Edit:I subscribed so you can notify me when you reply
soooo will it work on m macbook pro 2008? and btw i didnt do the updates in the past so its ios is 10.6.8 so will it work or no and will it reset the files on it or no
I did Exactly as you taught but my mac (late 2008 ) stuck for almost 12 hours then i had to turn it off. Now whenever i turn the power on it shows the flying words and works so slower than before , what shall i do, please help. Catalina is working by the way
Hm... maybe something went wrong during the installation. You could try to reinstall Catalina using the tool that I showed in my video. Before you do however, create a bootable USB with the latest supported OS for your Mac (I think that's Mavericks), just as a backup if something goes wrong. ;)
Need to update from high Sierra to Catalina on non supported Mac book air. Once done will apple support it or will recognise it is a non supported Mac ? Thanks
You need to check dosdude1's website if your Mac is supported (that's the site that I visit at the beginning of the video) and if it is listed there, than you can upgrade it to Catalina using his tool and it should work perfectly fine. ;)
@@thatrandomtechguy4385 what I mean in my last message is that I heard that Apple will not support a Mac that was updated in my case to Catalina if the hardware of the Mac was not supported by Apple for that update due to an older hardware.
I have a couple of these 13” for kids rough/ general use. I used open core legacy patchers to push them to Catalina & Big Sur but the WiFi becomes totally unreliable once they wake from sleep. WiFi stable under OC Mojave. Anyone had this / fixed this bug?
to be honest, why bothering with not official port of macOS when u can use windows 10 via bootcamp perfectly fine. inknow it’s not the same but how reliable of time and hardware is strongly used and gets hot in the case. doesn’t make it better to run a old device like this.
My IMac should be the right type to recieve Catalina and everything is going right untill the last few minutes. Then all stops. Tried it twice but both times same problem. Does anybody know to solve this or am I just unlucky?
Thank you so much Please help me , my trackpad works bad In settings I don't see him I don't off/on multi-touch features like left mouse button on tap. I need this Sorry for my bad English
@@safae3807 It works great on Catalina. It doesn't run e.g. Xcode and such demanding applications. I also tried Monterey and there it was slowing down a lot.
At 16:59 mine loads for like 15 minutes and then it just comes up saying there was an error. I don’t know what to do and it won’t let me get past this part
The one thing you showed that no one else did was how to actually CONVERT instead of erase. Simple yes, but it was not clear how/why until I saw your walk-through. Thanks! And thanks to dosdude1! By the way, it took about 5 hours to complete on my MacBook Pro (mid-2009) with 500GB HD with 90GB free. Mostly waiting. (Excluding backup) Next I will upgrade a MacBook Air using the same USB drive. That should save some time.
I did all the steps thanks, i have MBA late 2010, everything worked except the airdrop is not showing, i inserted BT4 dongle and did not work with continuity activation tool
hi, thanks for the guide well done! I also have a macbook 5.1, I followed step by step, I have two 2x4 gb ram, and so it does not start! If I leave only one ram bar it works, with elCapitan 8gb worked fine, can you tell me how I can solve it? thank you.
Hm... that is weird. Have you maybe tried to redownload the installer for Microsoft Office? Maybe something went wrong during the download of the file because normally it should work without an issue.
I’m at the black screen stuck estimated time remaining, but I hope it works, much thank you from LA, for your proper & well made video. These remaining minutes screen hahaha
