Welcome back everyone, in this video i show the steps i took to install the Motobilt Comp Cut Corner Guards on my Jeep YJ. This is a bit of a process but the end result is amazing. The armor/guards will provide much needed protection for the body but also give me a lot more clearance for big tires. If you enjoyed this video and want to follow along with the YJ build make sure to slap that subscribe button so you don't miss future uploads. Thanks for watching!

Looks great. It's nice seeing you learn as you go. Makes me want to get out and fab more of my own stuff as to buying bolt on parts

The fabrication side of it I’m still very new at but it is much rewarding to make something from scratch. Some times I do it out of necessity due to my wallet being thin lol 😂 but I also do really enjoy letting my mind try and figure it out. Thank you for watching!

If you are trying to cut a hole on a hole with a hole saw. Clamp a piece of wood behind the open hole .
@altered_life

That’s a great idea……I feel a little dumb for not thinking of that hahaha. Definitely going to remember that for the next time 🤘🏼

Your doing a great job man idk if I seen what you seen towards the end but if I’m wrong I apologize but if it ain’t perfect don’t let it get to you as long as you tried your best it’s a project well done.

What you should have done for the rear light holes is bolt the armor on and use the armor as a guild to put the whole saw in.
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 года назад
Tyler B see that’s a great idea, I’m sometimes too dumb to think of these things in the moment hahah but thank you. If I ever have to do it again for someone else I’ll give it a try. My only concern would be if it still grabbed and jumped that it would hit the armor and mark up the outside but I guess it could always be sanded out. Thanks for watching! -Cody

Hey man on that air body saw try a hack saw blade. Just trim it down to fit and it will bend into tight spots. Just a FYI I learned years ago. Stay safe man I dig the videos. Just getting ready to start a similar project

Would it make sense to stitch weld this in a few areas and seam seal it on? I feel like it would add a great deal of strength and rigidity to the tub especially around wheel well edge

Looking good man!! Gonna be a cool ride when you're finished. What do you think its gonna end up costing you complete 10k not counting labor?
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 года назад
Troy Kidd much appreciated man! I’m hoping it turns out as cool as I’m thinking in my head haha. As for cost, I’m going to round high and say 15k including my original purchase of the Jeep itself. I have a few big ticket items that I really want so that’s gonna drive my overall expenses up a bit. I’ll try and do a full cost break down once I complete the Jeep. Thanks for watching and the support!

Side question, I don't have a cage yet for my yj. I live in New England so rust city. I cut off the rear crossmember to replace it, and was thinking of welding 2x4 tube in its place. How would one go about inboarding the rear body mounts?
@altered_life
@altered_life Год назад
Replacing the crossmember and creating new body mount locations on that shouldn’t be to hard. The problem you’d run into is the tub side and getting new locations to bolt too. I’d say maybe create a flange style nut and cut into the rear channel of the tub where you want the inboarded location to be and then weld the nuts into the tub. It’s hard to say without being able to see it in person. I hope that made sense and helped a little hahah.

I just bought these exact body armor. Did you move your body mount in? Since you cut it off.
@altered_life
@altered_life 4 года назад
Scotty Gott nice 👍🏻 and for my set up I won’t be running a rear body mount back there but instead I’ll be tying my roll cage to the frame in the rear which should support the body no problem. Once I get to that stage of the build I plan on having videos showing all the steps I do to mount the roll cage. It probably wouldn’t be too hard to move the rear body mounts in, you would just have to install a larger style nutcert into the boxed section on the body and weld bushing mounts to the inside of the rear bumper. It definitely could be done. Good luck with your project!

I’d be curious to know what measurements to properly place the holes for the tail lights before I get the corner guards. I’m definitely planning to get the same ones from Motobilt, just not in the funds at the moment.
@altered_life

What measurements would you need, I can try and take some for you to help. Let me know 🤘🏼

@@altered_life I guess there’s no way way for me to comment a photo. I’ll try to make sense. From the top of the taillight circle/cutout to the first edge/bend above it and from the inner edge of the circle/cutout to the first edge/bend that meets the tailgate opening. So from where the bends start on the tub in those areas but still on the same plane/surface as the cutout for the tail light hole. Hopefully that makes enough sense 😂

What is the width of it from the angle to the bottom of the fender after the cut and install? I've got pre existing corner guards but going to cut it out for comp cut
@altered_life
@altered_life Год назад
If I’m understanding you correctly the measurement I just took reads 43.75” from bottom corner to bottom corner of both comp cuts (across the back bottom of the tub). If that’s not the measurement you need let me know and I’ll gladly get you the correct measurement 🤘🏼
@ceanerngaming-moonknight_yj
@@altered_life I think I got it. I finished cutting my corner guards I had and guestimated what the top of the fender to the wheel opening. Gonna be posting up the actual cutting I did hopefully.

Hello, so when having the lights installed. What’s your plan on hiding the wires?
@altered_life
@altered_life 2 года назад
Hey Cody, I plan on using wire loom with heat shrink to keep it neat then trying to tuck the wires up into the wheel well or under the tub. Not 100% sure yet but we’ll see when the time comes haha

How are you supposed to fill up your jeep with gas? The spot where you put gas in your jeep?
@altered_life
@altered_life 2 года назад
I’ll be running a remote filler cap with a fuel rated hose similar to how Ultra 4 race cars are set up. I’ll more than likely mount the filler off the side of the roll cage

How did you wire up the tail lights
@altered_life
@altered_life 3 года назад
The tail lights come with a plug and wires, all I did was splice the new plug into the factory harness and it was good to go. It was a little trial and error to figure out which wire was which but it wasn’t to hard at all. I’ll be re wiring the entire Jeep in the future so I’ll do my best to cover that in that video
@kylemobley6061

@@kylemobley6061 no problem! Unfortunately it was so long ago when I did it I can’t remember the wires and I no longer have any wiring in the Jeep to reference. I’m sure you’ll get it figured out though! Good luck 👍🏻
